Thanks for taking the time to make the video Corey! As a Utah elk hunter myself, we find a lot more opportunities via over the counter tags with archery equipment. It allows you to hunt state wide (minus the spike only units) but our any bull tags are good for Bull, Spike, or even cow. What's advantageous about this is you can really pick almost anywhere in the state and go hunt. Though our dates are less favorable in regards to the rut, Utah also offers an extended archery hunt in specific units (Wasatch being one of them). That extended archery period goes until December which would then allow you to hunt bulls in the rut and with less hunting pressure since most have moved on to rifle or muzzle loader dates. $50 to hunt from August until December is quite the value and certainly allows you see a lot of the state. I think this is why our limited entry hunts are in fact, so hard to draw. Most focus on popular boundaries for big bulls and while I do not blame them, I think a lot of these applicants are missing out on how much opportunity there really is here in Utah. Limited Entry tags are really just trophy tags for lack of a better term and I get just as frustrated with how hard they are to draw. I do tip my cap to Utah however as the opportunity to hunt elk continuously year over year is present, but it does come at a cost of longer waiting periods and successful drawings. Love the content! Keep up the great work.

The review for over the counter elk is wrong. You start talking about over the counter elk at 14:44 . You then switch over to the filter to show over the counter elk at 14:50. You can see there are 17 units for over the counter elk. At 14:54 you can see the system glitched when you tried to adjust the trophy potential. When this happened it went from 17 units to just 4. Might want to make a new video correcting that mistake. I hunt over the counter elk in Utah and when the system glitched it took away the unit i hunt.

Corey, few things you should mention: there are two types of over the counter elk tags in Utah "Any Bull and Spike". With an Any Bull tag you can hunt any unit within the state the allows you to take a bull of any size. Those were the original 17 units. Not unit specific.
Now you can hunt those limited entry units every year with a Spike only tag. Those tags are also not unit specific. You can only use a Spike only tag within the limited entry units. It's a great way to get to know those limited entry units before you draw that big tag that everyone wants.
Utah now allows elk hunters to hunt all four general elk seasons; Archery, Rifle (Any legal Weapon), Muzzleloader and extended archery.
The fee for Resident hunters will be three times the single season fee; $50 for single season and $150 for multi-season permits (plus Hunting License), but the fee only increases from $393 to $700 for Non-residents (plus $65 for Hunting License).
With any archery or multi-season tag you can HUNT ELK FROM AUGUST 17TH - DECEMBER 15th. You just have to be with the extended archery units to do so.

One last thing. They give out 15,000 Spike only tags and 15,000 any Bull tags. So if you don't or thing you can't hunt elk in Utah every year, it's totally possible. You just have to update buy a tag before they sell out. That usually takes a month and a half

Ok another last thing. Some of the any Bull units are over the objective with elk, and they allow you to purchace an additional 2 cow tags along with your any Bull tag. So while you hunt a "select" any Bull unit, you could have 3 elk tags in your pocket. Great way to fill the freezer.
Everyone only looks at the limited entry units in Utah. Truth is there are a lot of elk in Utah outside of those units. Utah is amgreat destination for over the counter elk.
