Right. How I interpret the story in Onew's "Dice" MV is that every time Onew rolled the dice his fate changed. That is why you saw him changing his look every time he tossed the dice. Throughout the MV, Onew tosses the dice thinking he needs to change his fate in order to find the girl and rescue her. However, in the end, as you discovered, when she steps out of the elevator, you see she also has a dice, which means she also is in control of her own fate. We discover she rolled the dice in order to defeat the monsters and to allow her to meet Onew.
Exactly. In the end, the girl is the one who rescues him. She didn't need Onew to save her.
I think the song and MV is about taking control of your own fate, and if you don't like the circumstances you are in at the moment, just roll the dice and change things. You don't have to continue to be stuck in the situation you are in if you actively work to change it.
At one point you see a monster with a smashed dice in his hand, which I think is supposed to symbolize how the monsters, or bad things in your life, don't have control of your fate. If you don't give those bad people and things control of your life, you will always have a say in how your dice is rolled and where your fate takes you.
As you may have realized, the color of the monsters' masks is SHINee's fan color -- pearl aqua -- and all the blue and green colors you see in the MV also represent the fact that Onew is a member of SHINee. Before LED lights, which created a much wider range of colors (allowing for the creation of SHINee's aqua color), SHINee used green or blue as their fan color, so you often see one of these colors, or even all 3, in their MVs.
You should also check out his B-side promotional track "On the Way" comeback stage. Plus, for something with a completely different vibe, check out his pre-release song called "Way" featuring Punch, from this album, which has an official animated lyric video and a special live performance video, that came out at the end of 2021.
Wait until you hear Onew perform "Dice" live. He brought live performances back to music shows with this comeback -- why waste his time recording a backing track when he has no problem singing live and he will sound even better live than the recording.
Onew also has a dance practice video for "Dice". And in true SHINee style, it's fire. You should check it out. :D
There is also a behind the scenes video of the "Dice" MV shoot where we see Key visit Onew on set. This was the first time Onew had ever done a solo dance track and he was really nervous, so he appreciated the other members support and advice.
If you didn't know, when it comes to dancing -- even though Onew is just as good of a dancer as the rest of the SHINee members -- he isn't real confident in his dancing, so it took a lot for him to step outside of his comfort zone when he chose the songs for this album. This was the first time he would be dancing by himself on stage. Although, now I think he has become a little more confident because he has held a few solo concerts and has really gained his "sea legs", so to speak, as a solo artist. (Dice was the first time he promoted solo as well because he didn't have time to promote his solo debut Voice album, which was released right before he enlisted in the military.)
Yes, when it comes to Onew's solos he more often does ballads, so to longtime Shawols it was a little bit of a shock when he released his Dice album. We weren't necessarily expecting dance tracks for his second solo album. But that's the whole reason why Onew said he decided to go with the style he did for Dice, because he wanted to do something no one was expecting and to challenge himself. (After all, he is a member of SHINee, which means he can't do exactly the same thing again. With SHINee's experimental concept, they are expected to constantly be reinventing themselves and coming up with a sound and style that has never been seen or heard before.)
Your analysis of the song and video sounds so spot on! And so true. This was such a fun, sweet song that I think it will be quite the surprise seeing those ballads one day. Also, I didn't realise there's such a thing as a fan colour - it will be fun spotting it from now on :D

Yes! Dice was definitely a nice alternative to Onew's past music. He has a beautiful voice, and I suspect he's worked hard to master his technique. It may not be exactly the type of music I like, but I always stop to listen and appreciate him. I do like how he's a bit creepy with his videos, it offsets the squishiness. However, I'm not sure about that puppet in the Circle video. It gives me the shivers. I sure hope it wasn't his childhood toy. Yikes!
Yeah... I figured that chainsaws and masks are less creepy to start with. That puppet was a bit..D:
