  • The Cinders is an overdrive with a nice dose of gain reserves.
    It is built like a tank and only clocks in at 49 bucks.
    So let's check it out in front of different amps.

    I bought Cinders a year ago. Can't get enough of it. I'm recording an album right now and using Cinders for all heavy sounds with starts and LPs. The pedal sounds amazing and mindblowlingly blends in the mix.

    It is a clone of the BOSS Blues Driver. They sound indistinguishable. If the BOSS moves you then this is a well built option for less than half the price. TC did not set out to make a good sounding pedal (although they may have) they just rehoused the Behringer "Blues Overdrive" (which is discontinued). It's the exact same circuit as the BOSS. And Behringer aren't the only ones to clone the BOSS.

      Boss and tc dont sound same! Depends of what are you playing, what pickups, what sound you want to hear... I have tc and I dont think to replace pedal.. and I dont think that there is not better pedal for me, but it is expensiv job( best if someon make pedal for you but it is clear that is not worth doing...) realy depends what you whant... slow blues with not a lot drive tc is working good job!

    Hi Henning. I think you should do the demos with more simple gear! Mid price guitar and some kind of "F" or "M" amp with a 57. It's a very nice demo, but... It's look like your are in Mars and we, common "earthers" don't get the "real" waves! I think you get the point. Thanks

    This is a revamp of a Boss Blues Driver, not supposed to bring out mids. I used mine for the first time last night with a band, if I took down the highs it warmed up, a slightly fuzzy edgy tone when cranked through a Deluxe Reverb RI, not smooth like a KOT, it’s a BD, but it sounded really good👍 It’s supposed to sound like when you crank your amp, which I believe it does, FYI that’s also what a Klone does, but that adds more mids as well.

    To be fair, TC don't describe this pedal as a compressing, mid-boost, tube screamer-type pedal; they do describe it as "warm" which is very subjective, and "transparent," which is the opposite of mid-compression. I notice in their demo they appear to combine it with some slapback, which may be to hide any "coldness". I think its best at low gain. Transparent high gain is hard to do cheap.

    • @jimmy5634
      @jimmy5634 Před 11 měsíci

      100% dead on comments.
      That being said the Joyo “Sweet Baby” which is a clone of the Mad Professor’s “Sweet Honey” is the best transparent low to mid gain pedal I have heard so far.

  • @luke_reiss

    Listening with earphones, I had the same impression. Lack of warm presence or warm brightness.
    The smooth swell from the gain knob seemed interesting, though
    (maybe useful for more instruments, other than just guitar)...
    ... if it's possible to add around the pedal, back into the signal chain, what it removes.
    Somewhere, it seemed to provide some warmth to the mids, for velvet fuzzy tones. Then, it could be good as a side soundtrack tool too, inside a theater, for a band providing some soundtrack riffs for a live theatrical play, during a low volume thrilling scene.
    Then, a footswitch changes the pedals, puting the Cinders out of scene and summoning another pedal, and make the audience jump from their chairs with a brighter sound (a unison bending, just a little bit of controlled harshness and then removed) and an unexpected scene.
    Cheers!!!
    Luke

    I think you a right... Throwing a CInders/blues driver on a semi-driven tube amp (like most amps in this clip) with the tone knob at noon and drive past 12 oclock is not a great idea..
    The circuit is very bright with tone at noon and the drive is a bit fizzy past noon...
    I have had best luck with the BD2 on a clean amp either with drive at 3 o'clock and tone just below 10 oclock.. A nice higher drive sound or as a low drive pedal with gain at 11 oclock and again the tone knob below 10 o'clock.. With the tone knob above 10.30 it actually sounds like it boost highs.. Which I don't want to happen on a drive pedal on a clean amp..
    Snowy White uses a stock Boss BD2 on a VOX AC30 with drive close to noon and tone knob close to 11 oclock. It seems to work well but he is often using an out of phase Les paul setting (both pickups but wired out of phase) on the darker normal channel of the VOX amp..

    Looking at the size snd build quality of these, and I have to wonder - did TC secretly create a line of mod platforms? The Cinders OD just screams (no pun intended!) "open me up and mod me!". If I were more the tinkering type I would buy a Cinders right away, and then get a JHS kit, or Keeley kit, or Analogman or whatever, and go to town. The big, solid housing makes it perfect for that.

  • @melvoid01
    @melvoid01 Před 7 lety +1

    Well that did not surprise me to be honest but I was not really looking to buy this one as I recently bought a TC Mojomojo, £36.00 on Amazon in England at the mo, and that has all the warmth you need with its very usable eq.
    To be fair tho I can see this pedal working in a punk/garage band style as you say more like a mild distortion above 2'O;clock might be what some people like.
    Like your honest opinion, don't stop doing that, its such a rare thing on the net these days.

      EytschPi42 You mentioned in another video that you were wondering if tc wanted these to be released or if behringer pushed it to happen. • @MrTR909
      @MrTR909 Před 7 lety

      Krish Patel sure, TC stands for high quality, great products and the upper price segment. Behringer they have good stuff, eg their mixers are great, but still they are brand marked as the copy cats and they have a lot of low budget products. Pro for Behringer pedal, they will be pushed due to the TC great reputation, on the other hand, for TC those low budget stuff could be tail wind for origin products, if those budget stuff will not sell well. I can pretty much understand if TC is not amused.

    Was digging this with the AC30 a lot, though maybe a bit spikey. I think it would work well with amps that aren't as gainy naturally, like the AC (unless you're trying to communicate with the Space station... Or level buildings as we all know!), used like a much more tame OCD maybe? Would be interested to try that! Love my OCD/Joyo Ultimate Drive (preferring the Joyo these days, plus it slays on bass) with my AC for rawk/metal stuffs.

    I dunno, it's not extraordinary but then for £49 what do you want? I think it's a reasonable sounding drive pedal, especially with the drive below 2 o clock. I was more impressed with this for the money than I was for the Vermuran Jan Ray, which is a ridiculous price for a very very very average sounding drive pedal... it's no Timmy, or KoT but then you're not paying £300 for it. Won't be buying one but I don't think it's as bad as some people seem to think...

    now.
    while this is a nice demo as such, the guitars and amps you use are not anywhere near the realistic financial realm of the very main demographic this pedal is meant for. nerding out on custom guitars and dear amps to shit on a 33e pedal just seems a bit pointless in my opinion.
    it's like my dad once said: "you should never judge a hot dog stand by michelin star restaurant standards."
    the person buying this pedal is very unlikely to be holding the rest of the gear you are displaying here, and that means that you are missing the point of this pedal. i say this with all the respect, as i am a fan of your work.

    So, if these are reworked Behringer designs; does that mean that in addition to the sturdier case and switch, TC has made improvements to the quality of the pedals and possibly even tweaked the voicing? I hope that even though they are pushing TC for more affordable products that Behringer doesn't tarnish the name and keeps them as the high end brand they've established themselves as. If they are smart, for the most part, they will leave TC Eectronics to make high quality gear like they always have even if the profit margin on that gear is not as high as they like to see. As long as long as the operating costs remain lower than the sales; if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

    I'm not convinced the Cinders is great with the OD set up past 1 o'clock. I do like it very much as an OD pedal, not a higher gain distortion-esque pedal. When I have a very nice organic tube amp tone, and I want some OD without cranking the amp's volume up, this TC Cinders does a great job. Start with a great tube amp and a nice Strat, the Cinders does very well.

    These cost $30 ..
    Buy it, gut it, use the components for a real nice vero build.
    You'll probably save money !

    I think this pedal sounds as good if not better for th price than that crappy $2000 klon.rich people are usually idiots.i bet if this pedal costed $1500 almost everybody would be praising it as th next big thing in audio a d warbling on about how "warm" and "tubelike" it is just because to most of them a huge price tag means super high quality but what it really means is...they are all a bunch of suckers and the manufacturers know this and they make a pedal with standard electronics and aluminum shell made from the guys beer cans for th week and slap a big price tag in it so the reviews will praise it and rich people just come crawling,running,and tripping over each other to get theyr hands in it and empty theyr bank accounts because.expensive means unparalleled high quality...lol.hilarious...i love th cinder.
    Fuck the KLON,I said it.it barely even breaks up due to no gain at all in it's lame assed construction.i should take some generic iedals and rehouse them and call them something philosophical and ornate and watch the dumbasses come running.while I get rich off theyr stupid asses.FUCK.
    but great video as usual.i love your style and sense of humor.you seem like a really cool cat.

    Fizzy,fuzzy,poor note definition. I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole.Cheap doesn't have to mean nasty. I recently bought a Kokko Overdrive which cost me all of 12 quid, and I think it's a belter!

    Why would you use such a distinctive guitar to review a pedal? It's almost useless.
