During the winter war there was also a huge convoy which went into Finland. They proceeded pretty much unhindered, until the convoy split up. At this point the fins, who knew the territory way better, took them out one by one.

Another aspect to consider is that with the obvious disarray that exists within the ranks of the russian armies, the distinct possibilities of them having far more "friendly fire" incidents occuring. They are utilizing soviet - era communications and sub - standard equipment. The Ukranian military has proven to be a more than able and worthy adversary. The russians cannot complete the mission assigned to them by virtue of their lack of control of the sky. As a retired veteran, I can say that now that the element of surprise has been lost, the russians are in an extremely vulnerable position. The cities will not and cannot be taken. They will become a meat grinder for conventional forces. The Ukrainian people know their land, the russians do not.
    Advantage Ukraine.
They can cover and take the fight to the russians street by street.
There is NO way the russians can win.

Before the invasion started I stated several times that Odessa would be Russia's graveyard. The Nikolaev contingent has done as expected in turning back the land assault. I won't speak of what would await an amphibious assault, let them find out. However, I was only factoring acts of war, not overt terrorism. The entire beachhead and population center, every nook, swell, tree and cranny could be laid to waste from over the horizon. The fact that Russian commanders are willing to resort to the sort of war crimes they have already been committing tells me the threat of small scale nuclear (even shoulder fired) advances would be a near certainty as they expand the campaign beyond Ukraine. It may well be that we have no choice but to engage sooner rather than later. If so, my eternal gratitude goes out the Ukraine for giving us almost three decades of not having to worry about rogue eastern block states or God forbid Islamic terrorists getting their hands on the nuclear arsenal Kyiv tender to the NPT 7 years before 911. So true but more importantly, moving their vehicles undercover in the forests, etc bordering the road, will only temporarily hinder strikes on those vehicles. Ukraine air attack will use missiles with infra rad sensing targetting systems which will see the tanks as hot bodies through the currently seasonally sparse foliage against the frigid ice and snow-bound ground. The engines in a tank or other vehicles in cold weather require a regular start-up and run to keep coolant water circulating and oil in particularly cold conditions from turning to thick treacle. Furthermore, Ukrainian soldiers on the ground will have increased cover to work in and get closer to the tanks and increase accuracy with anti-tank weaponry. Choosing such cold weather conditions to attack during could be Putin's greatest mistake though, as this increases the resupply of equipment to mechanized infantry units. The Ukrainian soldiers being essentially medium and heavy infantry using foot power to take them to strategical positions and under heavy cover of trees from both air attack and potential long-range targetting by long-range shelling will not be anywhere near as troubled as their counterparts, who can only sit in their tanks cold and hungry.

The traffic jam was caused by the Ukrainians blowing a bridge just south of Ivankiv, 60 km NW of Kiev. Both the routes from the North toward Kiev come together, and the bridge was just south of that. The Russians used a pontoon bridge to let trucks across the small river, but you can only do that one at a time and slowly. They've still been pumping trucks through there 24 hours a day for two weeks, It's possible the Russians have finally managed to get enough of everything needed right away forward (and probably a lot too much of some things), and they've pulled the traffic off the road because they can afford to sort things out a bit and send trucks forward in some sensible order. I'd be willing to bet that whoever's running this logistic effort is brand new in his job.

They haven't been able to because the convoy extends across their borders. They won't cross their borders to hit the convoy. And, the convoy has protection, they are tanks and missile systems and they also have air support. Ukraine has been able to tell when the air support is light where the convoy extends into Ukraine and that's when they have been able to hit the convoy. But they haven't been able to keep a sustained bombardment on it for the reasons I spoke about above.

You people don't seem to understand military logistics or the limitations of operation extension. Firstly, Ukraine can use their limited air power to directly perform fast jet attack runs, HOWEVER, you all failed to realise that there are S400 (A-G) type anti-air defense systems in place on the Belorussian and Russian borders, within their territories, capable of identifying and shooting down fast jets, making bombing runs extremely difficult, the only technology that can circumvent S400s are F-22R and F-35Bs. Secondly, the Ukrainian air force lacks the numbers of replenishment, the moment a fast jet is shot down, that is one less plane they can use for their own defensive air action, there is a cost-benefit analysis on the strategic importance of the convoy, you attack it you decrease your defensive air capability elsewhere, where it is more integral in its use. Thirdly, thinking that the Ukrainian strategic command has not thought of directly engaging the convoy is absurd, of course, they have, last I checked their strategic command has far more real-world experience than anyone on youtube can muster. They have considered and performed an analysis of the advantages and possible disadvantages if they are to commit and attack it. It's not as simple as "send plane here, drop the bomb, run away", local AA defenses, BMP-2 "Terminators", "Tunguska AA" and S400 AA missile systems (arguably by most air defense experts considered as one of the most advanced radar-AA surveillance and missile systems ever designed by international standards) all stand in the way of Mig-29s and soviet era Ukrainian jets performing runs on the convoy, the planes will be shot down almost assuredly. No point being deluded, there are realistic goals and absurdity that get your best pilots killed for naught, use the brain, not the heart. My two cents.
