- From the series of Tribes of India presenting Pawi Tribe, who resides mostly in the south and south-eastern part of Mizoram. The Pawi call themselves Lai. They generally speak the Lai language and usually prefer to grow maize and millet.

Not Pawi but Lai.
Good old telecast days
In Meitei stories Paopi Lai/Paowee lai a dragon revolt against the Moirang/Moilang kingdom. That time the king of Moirang was Purik Lai(Pu-Lik-Lai). They move to southern direction.
In Manipur , Lai tribes are found in Chandel district , they are Maring and Khoibu but unfortunately they're now under Naga umbrella, Maring and Khoibu originally belong to Lai (Chin-Kuki-Mizo) tribe.
We call them as a phoi tribe and pawi lai they are origin of maring tribe
@@khuningshiyt5852 Pawi is how the Lusei used to called them, the term Pawi is taken from Pawte (Falam Lai Language) which means Leopard because the Pawi are fast hunters in the history. While the Pawi preferred called themselves as Lai because of their once had a great kingdom in a place called "Lailun" located in Eastern Mizoram. According to Lai history many of their kindred tribe separated into different localities, those who entered Mizoram and settled in Mizoram has their permanent settlement in Lawngtlai and Siaha district of Mizoram like Halka and Mara (Lakher) people, those Lai tribe who crossed Mizoram entered Chittagong hill tract of Bangladesh and are known as Bawm, M'ro and Morung/Murung who are old Kukis (now Mizo-Chin) of Bangladesh while those who doesn't entered through present day Mizoram are settling in present day Tengoupal district of Manipur who are believed to be Maring and Khoibu because of their much shared similarities with the M'ro and Murung tribe of Bangladesh.

@@jamesboth3785 no. Maring and Khoibu shared similarities with other Zo tribes like Daai, M'ro, Bawm . Daai and Khoibu has many similar dress code and pattern.Biate, Halam, Chorei, Aimol ,Kom, Chothe, Chiru, Koireng , Hrangkhol, Hrangchal with tribes of Hmar are Rem/Riam ethnic tribe who came from Ruongleivasuo in Pherzawl district and scattered to different places. The Lusei called them as Hmar which means 'North or that came from the North' and this North is believed to be Ruonglehvaisuo ,which is located in the North as observed to Lushai Hills.
