I don't know about the politics of Manipur but here in Assam and Tripura we consider Aimol as one of the original Riam tribes, the Old Kuki. Aimol here are neighbours with Sairem, Biate,Chorei etc in Cachar, Karimganj, Dwarbond etc. But they are not Naga for sure not even remotely related, just check out their culture, language.
It used to be like that bro, the Aimols, chorus, Koms etc are small tribes and the NSCN IM forced them to join Naga at gun point, even some chiefs were killed, therefore they had an identity crisis, and also the Kukis ( Thadous, Vaipheis , gangte etc) can't help them during the 90s, so they had to go through a lot of things. At the end we all know that they belong to the Zo ethnic group aka Old Kuki. They share the same traditional dress, similar language, and names. Guess what! cracking UPSC does not make you intelligent đ

Did they just appear from the soil of Manipur one fine day?. Old Kuki/Halam/Riam may not necessarily identify with Kuki or Mizo identity but they see them as their true brothers of the same blood and lineage. The troubles in Manipur is felt as far as Tripura and Meghalaya where everyone is in solidarity with those suffering

Congthu means Kuki , anyway if he is described as Kuki he will be killed by meiteis , its good dat he said aimol is aimol for survival at this juncture.

Some years back aimol was included among kom as kom-rem. But, we parted ways unanimously. The same goes for Chiru tribe.

Congrats Christo. Aimol is a very old, indigenous tribes labelled as Old Kuki. The surname Songthu, Chongthu of Thadou Kuki n Chawngthu of Mizoram r of the same filial stock. Differentiated just by political n geographical dynamics, Aimol as a growing autonomous tribe, we r very happy n elated, we know the KukiZo families r growing, prospering irrespective of wherever, whatever they r. Touthang, Guite, Doungel, Kilong etc. together are called Songthu.

Congrats to this young man.....I know he's truly uncomfy about mentioning his tribe as under the Kuki umbrella, due to the ongoing current conflict.....they dont want to be seen as " NAP CHABA ' to anyone........they're small tribe.....no one needs to bash them about their stand on this matter.....Its understandable ...the politics of it all.......& the push to side with the majority......but all in all, Manipur is comprised of so many different tribes & communities & we can all learn to coexist.......I had my h/school class mates in the late 70s-early 80s ,belonging to so many such" small tribes "- Aimol ,Chothe, Lamkang, Kom, Monsang ,Moyon, Anal, Koireng, Tarao & others....I got to know them well, they all came from poor backgrounds & had come to Imphal for their schooling & was very appreciative of everyone ....I dont know about the current generation ....If you look @ their ethnic attires, one can see they 're inter related.....no denying about it....I dont want to be involved in any kind of mudsling towards anyone....considering Manipur is under conflict & anything can aggravate the situation cos everyone is a social media warrior ready to tear down /pull down anyone who disagrees with their views......Peace out , all my Manipuri brethren.......Let love be the language of sanity !!!

Keeping aside their identity, they are a very small sub-tribe. They have their own responsibility as a community. No matter what group of tribe they belong to, at the end of the day, it's one's political aspiration and ideology that shaped their identity at large. Congrats.

Even if you get state hood or sovereignty we Aimol will never be called ourselves kuki..we will not be called ourselves the name/word which doesn't even have meaning in our dialect. We believe uniting in Unai Suapui not in Kuki.

@@Rangvan2494 and also don't about us, this is part of human societal evolution. The term Mizo, coined by the Lusheis, the Maras, Lais, Hmars, Paites, etc all opposed it. They didn't take part in the MNF movement. The Mizo ( Lusheis) didn't compromise. And they fought for 20+ years all by themselves to get Mizoram. And now everyone is Mizo in Mizoram whether they like or not.

Aimol's dialect is most understandable for the Hmars.
You guys, the Hmars, are so bad and very poor in doing politics, forget about us thadou Kukis, you guys share the closest to the Aimols, Koms, Chirus, Anals, Choreis, Halams, etc yet you can't bring them together under Hmar umbrella despite the largest in terms of population
Might bad and poor but we can't change our identity. I am very good in Chorei, Ranglong, Darlong,Hrangkhol, Kaipeng, Khelma. And can follow Kom, Chothe, even Aimol and Komrem. Because I speak Thiek dialect been a Thiek. Thiek pao hi hichi ham zouse a hi ana pang achu.
