I absolutely look forward to these videos and your experiences! I found when I read the cases in the case book, I watch Quimbee videos of the case. It helps so much!
Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words!! I have heard good things about Quimbee but have not tried it yet, I’ll have to check it out!!
Is your school accredited by the American Bar Association?
Does the book you are using for Torts show or give the defenition of a legal concept on one page and then present a case on the next page where the authors give a case to illistrate a legal concept?
Ty for the information ❤️ what about the 2nd year books 📚? Can you mention them or make another CZcams video please? Thank you so much again 💓
Sweeeeeeet
Thank you so so much!!!
Hey Macy! Does NWCU report to clearinghouse that students are half time? I’m wondering if I’ll have to pay my loans will enrolled at this school since I wouldn’t be taking out loans and paying out of pocket
Hi, nice to meet you. I am in the same school. I am waiting for the final exam in two weeks. I will be in the second grade soon. When are you?
May I ask, outside of the one-time payment of $495.00 for the school’s recorded and online materials, what should I anticipate cost wise for the actual physical books you show in this video? Appreciate your help.
I would say $600-800 depending on what you buy used/new!
Thanks 👍 how does the yearly calendar look for a first-year law student? Like how many classes and for how long is there a break in between like a month or 2 weeks before the second or third session of the year
1L students take 4 classes over the course of 52 weeks. There are no breaks during the course of the school year, but if you stay on top of your assignments and the rest of the workload then it is easy to take a short break here and there as needed. You then have approximately a month off in between years as you await finals to be graded and your enrollment paperwork to be processed.
Does the Casebook you are using for Criminal Law have the defenition of a legal concept on one page and then a case on the next page where the authors illustrate the actual legal concept?
The casebooks are almost entirely cases with very little definitions/rules on anything. I like to describe the casebooks as working examples of the topics we learn in class. They’re more supplementive .
Do we need to get the EXACT edition of the textbooks? Is one edition before good enough? Like if they ask for the 14th ed can we get the 13th one?
Usually within one edition is okay. Occasionally that may mean there is a case you have to brief that is not in there, but you can use lexis nexus to look up those ones!
I have a few questions for the creator of this video. Have you ever used the Examples and Explanations series? If you have how does it compare to the Gilbert,s series you showed in this video? If you have used both of these series to study in law school do you believe they can be used effectively in combination?
I have not used those
I would like to purchase your first-year law books is that possible?
Hi Macy where did you buy your text books from?
Amazon!
What does the course work require or look like for NCUS?? Thanks!
There’s a definitions assignment for each class, 10-15 case briefs per class, 1 quiz for each class, a midterm and a final. A few of the classes require a mini thesis as well!
@@MacyySuee Thank you!!
Hi Macy,
Thanks for your video. I am in Florida. I have been looking at Northwestern ca.
Your video was helpful in regards to the textbooks. I was considering getting a head start before my first year, to take some of the pressure off. I was considering purchasing the books and working through them on my own for 6 mos or a year and then enrolling, as if I were a law student. In other words, creating a situation were one year of study is stretched out over two unofficially. I am interested in getting ahold of some sort of law school syllabus or standard curriculum, to help guide the process. Many 1Y programs are structured similarly. Torts, Contracts…
Do you have any knowledge of where I can find an outline like this?
Also, where did you purchase your books? I spoke with a former Northwestern Grad this week, and he told me to start reading on Wikipedia. Wiki has a reputation in academic circles, but he swears by it, and I have learned quite a bit. One case leads to another, terms. Torts, contracts, and the like. Just thought some may be interested if they can afford tuition initially and want to jump in. What’s the worst that can happen? You figure out you Lloyd law or hate it before spending cash and you learn quite a bit in the process, for nothing else, perhaps for no other reason than for the sake of learning.
Thanks again. Keep at it!
Hi Todd! I purchased all of my books off of Amazon in 1L but for 2L I actually just rented them from Amazon. Unfortunately we are not allowed to share copies of the syllabi/course outlines as all NWCU material is strictly copyrighted, but I do not think it would be as helpful to complete these readings that far in advance due to needing to do it for the case briefs and also because one of the 1L classes, Introduction to law school, legal research & writing, gives you a lot of helpful information that will make it much easier to process what you are reading and need to be looking for. If anything I would suggest reviewing Quizlets for each class to familiarize yourself with key terms or to review landmark/current event cases.
How long from when you applied did you receive your acceptance letter?
For me it was only about 2 weeks but that was over 2 years ago and the school has grown a lot in that time so I’ve heard it’s about 4-6 weeks now
I received my acceptance letter 1 week after I applied. I’ll start classes on Dec 10th!
Hi Macy, I have 2 questions.
1. Are courses graded on a curve? Seems like it would be difficult to do since people start at all different times.
2. Does every student have the exact same required text books?
Thanks!
1. No
2. Yes for the most part. If they update the versions there might be a slight difference though
What is a mini thesis?
It’s a 3,000-5,000 word essay
Would it be possible for someone to read the entire casebook in one day?
Doubtful. They’re around 800-1,000 pages and dense. I consider myself to be a fast reader and it still takes me 3-4 minutes per page.
Where the Gilbert Law Summary Outline books required by your school as part of your required materials.
Are you still enrolled in the law school?
Yes, I will be starting my fourth and final year this month!
Can you take your finals anytime, like two months after you start your 1L?
It’s once your other assignment have been completed and within the last 30 days of that year!
100% on line school...ABA accredited?
It is California Bar Accredited
@@MacyySuee hope it is not overly expensive....
@@negbefla6956 it is not. It’s very reasonable, especially compared the price of other online schools that are not ABA accredited either. All 4 years at NWCU are still less than 1 year at most traditional law schools.
It would make sense for me only if (1) I lived in Cali, and (2) has employment awaiting me.
@@negbefla6956 you don’t have to live in California! There are people from all over the world in my classes. Even though the school is not ABA accredited you are still able to practice in other jurisdictions, it just depends on each jurisdictions individual rules and requirements
