having just lost my husband of 58 years, I rediscovered Neil Sedaka and his 2 best songs ever. All I could think of, was "The Hungry Years" and the struggles we had, but the song makes me cry. In many ways, I miss it.
Amen...all those years I worked so hard and lost sight of the most important thing in my life...my wife and kids.....because I chased success and a manager title....now whilst I am in my later years I spend more time with my family and I doing what I have loved all my life.......I am singing my way into retirement......Neil God bless you you are a musical genius and a beautiful human being. Lawrence from Down under
I was at his concert at the London Palladium in the late 70’s when his album Overnight Success came out and although I was familiar with his music, this album and this performance bowled me over. I love him and his music. I have had the privilege to meet him and he is the epitome of a special gentleman. There will never be another Sedaka.
What an absolutely superb musician who almost does not need any orchestral backing except for slight percussion. True musicians such as Neil are very hard to find. Today's music seems to be how loud can you scream and good luck to you if you can scream over your accompaniment not necessarily In tune
Hi Neil. Requested this song for you to perform many years ago in Sudbury, ON Canada when you played at the Grand theater. You were having supper by yourself at the Chinese retardant by yourself. I did not want disturb you so I gave the waitressa note with this request written on it. My wife died in 2000 and I will always remember our Hungry Years. Thank you Neil for all the songs and speciality and for The Hungry Years. Yes, as time goes on and we lose ourselves in our success and financial achievements we lose sight of what is most important "THE HUNGRY YEARS"
I have just discovered Mr. Sedaka's daily mini concerts. WOW at 81 still thinking of his fans. I signed the petition for him to be in the hall of fame..........seriously not there!!!!! SHAME. I always felt he was just your not so average sweet man, doesn't have to push his talent, its right there for you. Love you Mr. Sedaka. By the way I lived a few blocks down from him on the upper eastside. I'd see him with his son. Never intruded in his personal time so never stopped him for an autograph.
William Holden And Neil can still hit the high notes with his still crystalline voice. I saw a video that was only a few years old of Neil performing "Solitaire" and it was the same key as his original recording...extremely rare!! Billy Joel is much younger than Neil but Billy, with his immensely beautiful voice, has lost that famous range he had. No shame, it happens to most...not Neil.
Really this song "The Hungry Years" os a Neil Sedaka's masterpiece! And How good-looking he is nowadays!!! I'm a Brazilian Man who knew Neil Sedaka in 1950's Years, the begining rock'n'roll Years singing "Diana" and "Oh, Carol!" O esse 7 or 8 Years old! How Lucky I esse knowing Elvis Presley and Neil Sedaka in 50's and The Beatles in 60's, Frank Sinatra and mainly Johnny Mathis since I saw him as himself singing "A Certain Smile" in 20th Century Fox romantic movie of same mame starring Joan Fontaine, Rossano Brazzi and The Young Girl Cristine Carrere! I miss these good times!
I think he was extremely talented and underrated. I absolutely love both of these song. The words to the hungry years make me cry because I feel it was our story when we got married at 17 and 18 years old. It was a struggle financially, but we were married 58 yrs. until my husband passed away 2 years ago. When I listen to the words, I realize I do miss those early years. His voice is so amazing.
The Great Stage Showman. Neil Sedaka is a living legend. Wow this is a stunning performance. Incredibly beautiful. Class A performance in stage persona and musicianship and voice. This is a gem of a video.
Two among his greatest works.. So so nice.. thanks Neil Sedaka for putting it into music for us all, I had to do and dedicate a vocal cover of "Should've Never Let You Go " to my high school sweet heart..after seeing her high school photo on my FB new feed.. yikes, the feelings that pour like rain...and yes you can find it on my youtube channel..
I really love this song. I have to agree with you, that maybe he was underrated. So talented, but im sure he did well. Too bad he doesn't make a comeback. I can really connect with this song, because it was our story, but I kind of miss those years now.
The Hungry Years is such a phenominal song and nobody sings it better or with more "punch" than you Mr Sedaka. You had me in tears. So good to know you are still performing at age 80! Keep on keepin on Sir!
Such a terrific performer and song writer. I wrote to New Musical Express many years ago in my school days stating that 'this boy is loaded with talent' . The letter was published and I was the hero of the school that day ! There is no reason to doubt that after fifty odd years. Such a great being and giving pleasure and great songs to all. Thank you Neil.
This represents my early years of marriage when we had nothing and was happy. Then our lives moved on and now we are divorced and I miss the hungry years in some ways.
The duet version of "Should've never let you go" w/daughter Dara is my absolute favorite Sedaka song! Has to be one the top 3 most beautiful songs I've ever heard!
1969 - FOREVER!!! My life with Carolyn is so like the words in this song. Fortunately we now look back and realize our lives made it through both the Hungry Years and the Empty Years......and Never Let Go! Joe M'
There are no right words to describe how beautiful this performance by Neil is.....I bought his so called "comeback" album in the 70's and played it over & over....such a brilliant singer/songwriter he is : ))))
To those of u who don't know this song is about Sonny & Cher, but this song is personal for me,because of the things I dealt with as a little boy growing up.
Jeez, I dont play this very often, because if i play it once, than i have to play about 9/10 different versions of it. Sedaka has always been a brilliant songwriter, with a lot of catchy tunes, but the 'Hungry years' is the best thing that he has ever written by far, its just the saddest peice of music that i have ever heard, the poignancy is off the scale, a bit like they always had what they strived for, it really beautiful.
BRAVA NEIL you have written my fav songs the hungry years should've never let you go YOU the diary YOU mean everything to me....i love you neil sedaka these five of your children i give to my firefighter man freddie G. bklyn NY ‼️ his birthday is 8/26 gerritsen beach

Yes ,I did miss the Hungry Years, Happy Years much better 40 some years later we have everything but not the love we used to shared , looking back, those were the days, I will not forget....bring back those Hungry years, if you may .!!!❤❤❤❤
was lucky enuf to see neil last sat nite in concert and he sang The Hungry Years.....so absolutely terrific, can't wait to see him again!!🌷🌷🌷🙋🙋🙌💃⚘from this little Greek Girl in So. CA...4/11/19😊💃
I was a teen in the 60’s. And I was well aware that Neil Sedka did oh Carol, Calendar Girl and Breaking Up is Hard To Do. But Should Have Never Let You Go. By that time I just listened to and either loved or hated the songs I heard on my car radio driving to work. This song I loved. Never paid attention to who the dj said sang it. If the dj said it at all. So interesting to find this out now. Neil has been giving throughout my life with his amazing songs that meant so much . And I didn’t even know it.
THIS SONG JUST BRINGS ME TO TEARS. HOW MANY OF US CAN RELATE TO THESE LYRICS.
BEAUTIFUL MELODY. ONE OF NEIL'S BEST SONGS EVER!!

I have to agree. My favorite of his.
He wrote this song about Sonny and Cher.... but it holds meaning for so many people.
Oh my goodness, This mans talent for writing songs is beyond compare, absolutely love his songs.
How many of us in our later years can relate to this song? If only we could replay life.
Amen to that, my friend.
I now say I want a do over. There are so many things I would change.

Just lost my sister 😢
The line..... 'honey take me home,
let's go back to yesterday' .....
gets me everytime !!
I adore "The Hungry Years." Sedaka is truly underrated. His "comeback" period in the '70s was superb.
I was at his concert at the London Palladium in the late 70’s when his album Overnight Success came out and although I was familiar with his music, this album and this performance bowled me over. I love him and his music. I have had the privilege to meet him and he is the epitome of a special gentleman. There will never be another Sedaka.

How true.
"The Hungry Years" & "Should've Never Let You Go" are two of his great legacies to us all!

A genius. One of the few great singer songwriters still around who can perform great songs.
William Holden And Neil can still hit the high notes with his still crystalline voice. I love his his daily songs while we are all trapped at home in quarantine.....he just makes me smile
One of the all time song writers and entertainers of my lifetime..(74 of them)
One of the true great singer songwriters of our time.
Both these songs are so haunting, they take us all back, I have no doubt. Neil puts his songs over so amazingly they touch our hearts ☹️💕
To me this is one of Neil Sedaca's greatest hits.
The man is a musical genius. Two beautiful songs with great melodies and lyrics. The Hungry Years is timeless; one of the greatest songs ever written.
