Being gay, Asian, and literally named John. Rina SPOKE TO ME with this one.
This. Everything This.
Change ur ways f@g
this song actually has me crying over my school notes, she got me I fear
You n me both🤧
Literally am having a breakdown over failed exams rn
nuar
Rina made me cryawama
mood for the entire album
😭stop-
*This one made me tear up, Rina is really good at storytelling*
This song really hits me in the most delicate spot. My mom is the root of all of my trauma and I tried over and over again to communicate with her that what she did to me was not okay. She is homophobic and narcissistic. Unfortunately I had to accept that she will never apologize to me. Well, at least not any time soon. I'm not going to hope that she finally apologizes to me on her deathbed.
unfortunately, the bad part about family is that you don't choose them; what you get is what you got. the lesson is that, whoever you wind up bein family to in the future--chosen or biological--be the best family you're capable of being. and as someone who had such a bad falling out with my mother that we didn't speak for a year, and who definitely sabotaged my upbringing in several ways and a slew of other shit: while you don't have to and she well may not even deserve it, consider givin your old lady a break if she does apologize. a lot of our old folks are fucked up from their own bullshit ass upbringings.
@@malum9478 thank you for this response. My mother in fact did have a horrible upbringing. She didn’t even go to therapy
@@malum9478 knowing my heart, i can see myself giving her a break
@@inner8197 🙁
So sorry you went through that but we are never alone in dysfunctional upbringing. I also have trauma from my upbringing and my relationship with both of my parents were never great b/c they never wanted to change or get the help they needed to get past their own generational trauma and to function the way best needed from their own children rather than the other way around😢
"We both had to leave our mothers to get the things we want." *TEARS*
"Saw the way the kids treated you every day at school
I should've blamed them, but instead I hid behind the Bible's rule
Ooh, prayed to God above
Ooh, but all you needed was my love"
she basically straight up described my childhood here
Nothing like sharing childhood trauma, marry me?
i kind of anticipated that i will dislike the country ballad when rina spilled the genres, bUT NOW THIS IS MY FAVE ON THE ALBUM 😭😭😭
Excuse me while I go crying my heart out---
She's so powerful. The story telling with this harmony and melody is just top notch.
This song hit too close to home and I sobbed so much when i heard this the first time. Truly want to thank Rina for writing this one because there are people who really need to hear this kind of love and forgiveness from those people in their life who will never give it❤
This album is incredibly powerful, I’ve had goosebumps and chills down my spine
my late brother’s name is john. he asked if i wanted another toke from the “water pipe” after i came out to him lmaooo! (he knew i was one of them queers and didnt give a **** sksks) sometimes i can still hear him plucking away at the guitar, much like the one featured so beautifully on this track. im sending my love to john 💕🥰
This song is so incredibly beautiful.
Had me crying during my drive.
The part where she says "We both had to leave our mothers, to get the things we want" absolutely broke me.
Followed by how much John cares for her son ? I'm destroyed.
Rina, I did not ask you to HIT ME LIKE A TRUCK WITH THIS SONG... Wut? I started crying, I wish my mom would say these things to me. God, we gays are really being fed today.
this song hits sooo hard when you relate to the lyrics.
Saw Rina live this past Thursday and didn't hear this song before and it wrecked me. I was mostly raised by my single Japanese mother and was disowned 5 years ago. I understand why she is the way she is, she grew up in 50s America. She had me in her mid 40s and even before she had me she did so much. I am her youngest child. She was a first in many things, first Asian American woman to earn a Music masters in Washington and one of the first Asian American teachers and she worked full time and several side jobs to make ends meet. She did everything she could and I know she wanted what's best for me. She reached out to me this past year and said she missed how we used to be and said I should seek God and conversion therapy and it's just...she's in her 70s now. I know she doesn't have all that much time left but at the same time...yeah. My mother wasn't an immigrant, she's second generation but enough of this related to me that I was weeping when I heard this song.
I can't stop my tears.....I can relate it so much as I have struggled with my sexuality so so much...... I'm getting goosebumps 😭😭❤️❤️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Love all the Johns! But one John helped me more then he realise in 2023! The year i dealt with the worse depression and sadness in my life. He bought some light when i given up ❤😢😢
as soon as i read the song was written from the perspective of a mother apologizing i started sobbing
"I'm not myself when you're around..."
Just saw this live. This was so therapeutic and heartwarming. I encourage everyone to go see her live. She puts a lot of soul in her performances!
A true artist at the core, music that will live forever
The backstory on this one's creation is enough to make you tear up.. But then the lyrics and the pace of the song... It all just tugs at your fucking heart no matter how big of a person you are hah.. I lpve this woman's ability and art!! It's simply inhuman..
My own parents may not have my back after I came out to them, but at least I know Rina has it lmao
this song murdered me , could not stop bawling my eyes out jeezeus
Wow if only my own mother would one day say this...thanks I hate crying
She is my queen, she slays and she is everything a gay kid like me needs, she is literally holding the gurl PERIOD
Happy Birthday, Johnny by St. Vincent and Rina’s Send My Love To John are spiritual sisters
Rina read Madonna's Sex book scripting letters to a fictional lover named Johnny
I love the revival sound of the 2000s, leAnm Rimes, Shania Twain and now Madonna. A tribute to the great queens who paved the way for her to be successful today, which was unthinkable 20 years ago.
i don’t believe that it is the right way to express it but I don’t necessarily think that it is owing to them specifically, not everyone is a copy or a blend. in my opinion she is actually way better than most of them (this is not a competition we are not pitting women against each other) but whatever you suggest may be true in some points
the madonna's x static process sample in the instrumental!!!! its so good
I instantly recognized that. Crossing fingers this was cleared beforehand and doesn't create any drama. Came out great tho.
More like an act of desperation.

What sample? Madonna's credits is nowhere to be found

Treasure this beautiful woman and her incredible emotional memory inducing tragedy writings ✍️
For all their musical losses, the Nation remembers Joe
fav track on the album 100%
Rina Sawayama is a huge inspiration to me and I WILL produce a song for her one day.
I literally cried listening to this. This reminds me of an old friend of mine, and how guilty i felt about losing them, and still i tried to harass them instead of talking or trying to reconnect. This also reminds me of my mom, she loves me; but she doesn't like that im gay.
I send my love to those who were abandoned by those who loved them, and those who were hurt by people who you thought you knew.
This song had me crying on the bus commute 😢😢😢 this song really hits so fucking hard and a genuine love letter for those who need to hear it
rina this is just masterful songwriting, i don’t know how you do it
The song feels reductive, I mean all the emotions in X-Static Process this song lacks
@@ginasousabranco5637 it may sample it, but it’s not the same song. i also find it extremely emotional!
@@jifij89 X-Static Process is far superior
@@ginasousabranco5637 ok? you really feel that strongly that you feel the need to respond to literally everyone’s comments? it’s saturday, go have some fun my friend, watch tv, read a book, anything’s better than being weird in youtube comments.

T____________________T yes, i agree.
She's just, such an admirable person for making it as a musician when this much stuff was against her. Her music gives me more inner strength, and I like how all the female music artists just keep going despite all the favoritism constantly being against them and no one just calling them geniuses like they deserve.
send my love to slay
You don't know how much this song means to me 🥲 i love u so much rina
This song breaks my heart! Wishing I could relate with my mother
Rina❤️ beautiful story of fragmentary parent / child relationships. Thoughtful prose and I love the acoustic in front. It gave a warmer feeling to this ode of remorse. This song is a keeper. ❤️
The way I only realised now that it’s a song ABT a mother and her gay son despite having listened to this song for over a month HELP. LIKE SMH THE THOUGHT DIDNT CROSS MY MIND 💀
this song is really natural
love this vibe very much !!!! Rina's music is always make me suprised by her talent✨
The instrumental part belongs to Madonnas Xstatic Process which is a song taken from her 2003 American Life album. The Queen inspiring the new generations as usual.
Is a copy
totally riped-off
A sample, Jaír, is a sample it does not belong to Madonna.

Girl, do Mirwais and Madonna know about this guitar arrangement?

@@socrateos yeah, I also happen to be a Rina stan so I saw her mentioning him in recent interviews. I got to know and appreciate Price's work because he's the mastermind behind Madonna's Confessions on a Dancefloor... When I first listened to this song it came to my mind to check if he was involved in this track in particular, but he's not...
que perfecta, ame
