      Thank you, I enjoy watching Primitive Technology too. My previous video was under 1000 views for the first 5 months, then suddenly did very well. It seems to depend on CZcams's algorithm showing it to the right people.

    I love the idea of putting the nibbler in the vice to get more precise cuts. I am going to do that for my next inflatable. I've made some pillows, a chair, and a couch when I was in school. looking forward to inflating more soon.

      Like he said it depends on CZcams's algorithm if they feature him and apparently they have not but once they do this thing or grow huge if you know someone at CZcams tell them to get their heads out of their asses

    The part I found most interesting is that coating of graphite powder. That is something I've played around with for dry lubrication and seen it stain all sorts of things, but I would never have thought to use it to finish a project and give it such a beautiful grey mirrored finish. It looks amazing! I wonder what other materials that will work with... I'm thinking for use in prop making mostly, faking a metallic finish can be pretty challenging so I'll have to keep this in mind and give it a try sometime.

      I found the technique though prop sword & helmet making videos, and it should work on any smooth surface painted gloss black

    looks really cool but it's geometry looks possible in a stamp press, is there any shape only possible to make by hidroforming?

      You would need an expensive mold for the press, so not good for limited edition or one off pieces. My inflated steel vase would be hard to produce efficiently using any other process.

      The workbenches can fill up during projects, but I like to clean up when the project is finished and before filming. Yes just a small electric pressure washer.

    Hey!
    I'm impressed by the graphite finishing on those parts! But I was wondering, how can you "fix" the graphite into/onto the paint? Does it mixes itself with the paint , or does it just stick to it?
    And also, does it hold well in time without any varnish or another protective layer?

      The graphite embeds itself into the paint and becomes part of it. They still look brand new, but you could always use a clear coat for items which are constantly touched.

      Yes, it creates a decorative metallic/reflective finish

      I use a pressure washer & water for pieces that need high pressure to inflate, and an air compressor & air for low pressure inflation.

      Yes, I have seen many products made from inflated stainless steel. It requires low pressure, a bicycle pump would be enough for inflation.

    Just wondering, have you done this with other thicknesses, and how were the results? Is 1mm the most practical thickness for this (flexibility of the sheet metal, cracking, etc)?

      1mm has good balance between flexibility, weld-ability and cost. 2mm didn't inflate as much and is double the cost, and thinner metal would be harder to weld and weaker.

    What gauge is the steel? 20? And can you clear coat after the graphite is put on?

      I use 1mm thick steel. You could clear coat for extra protection, but the graphite doesn't rub off and I wouldn't want to lose any reflectivity of the surface

      Presses need expensive molds, so are more suited to mass production. These are handmade products, made to order in very small quantities. Also the main purpose for the design is to showcase inflating metal.

      It's very hard to weld on the edge of 1mm sheet with Arc or MIG, TIG is much cleaner and creates a perfect seal.
