So glad you are back posting videos. Belize looks sensational. More Caribbean mineral and gems lessons, please.
Nice to see you again. Very interesting.
Welcome back !
Welcome back!! Another interesting and informative gem inspired episode. During college, I worked at Sea World in Orlando. I worked in a gift shop in Japanese Village. Next door was the Pearl Diving Pavilion. There were Pearl divers and employees opening up the shells to reveal the pearls that they could have set into a setting of their choice. I saw all types of pearls and cameos carved from shell, but never a mention of the conch pearl. After watching your lesson, now I know why I never saw that particular pearl. Fascinating!! Thank you!!
Thanks, Glenna. I am glad you enjoyed it. It has definitely been flying under the radar in the gem world. But the serious collectors have always coveted this natural wonder!
Hello
Hello
Super interesting! I did four and a half years on an Abalone (Paua) farm, keeping broodstock, producing larvae in a hatchery laboratory, raising juveniles and some work in a grow out shed up to 70mm so I fully understand the complications, complexity and expense ( Millions!) that would go into setting up and farming Conch but man it would be exciting and a much better environmental solution if someone made it happen. Thanks again Paul for your wisdom and insight 👍👍
Answer: Thank you Rob. There is no substitute for being at a mine (or an abalone farm) and getting your hands dirty. I have always said I learn more when I visit a gem mine than years of research with the GIA. Just a fact. I share your hope that the cultured conch pearl becomes a commercial reality! Better for us rockhounds and definitely better for the environment.
Great content! Ty
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 💖
New here. Very helpful information. Thank you,
Where would the pearl be hiding??
I'm a new sub!!! Great info.❤
Nice to see you agains
Hello can you tell me how much a non gem quality pearl will be worth ?
Thank you for the lesson!
Great episode. What about the importation or commercial sales of the conch pearls because of CITES? It bans the import of meat or shell (the pearls are caught up in this) from certain Caribbean countries. It is hard to prove origin of a pearl. Plus the conch pearl is a by product of the fishing industry and not the reason the conch is harvested. I’m fortunate to have access to these beautiful pearls, as location is everything for this rare gem. Greetings from beautiful 🇧🇿 Belize.
I never knew about these pearls.
Thank you
