  • Saving your best rut stands for the right time of the deer hunting season can be hard to do.
Mature bucks are easier to hunt when the prerut starts and many hunters spoil their best treestand locations too early when mature bucks are paying attention to every detail. This video shows how easy it is to boogger up a hunting location.

i would agree with pretty much everything you said, but i think early to mid October can be a great time to shoot a big buck. I would wait for a significant drop in temp and of course the right wind. By the end of October some of those bucks could have already been taken by the neighbors. great video.thx

We hunt on our own private land which is 45 acres but its joined to 100s of other acres so anything can walk through. Now we only make one trip out 2 days before opening day to put anything we need in our blinds/stands and then stay out of the woods until then. We dont even sight in anymore. Just check it with a laser to make sure nothing shifted from last year. No need for everyone to take 3 shots at 50 yards. Since we cut back on all the dicking around we've been getting a lot more bucks. I was getting pissed the old guys take multiple trips out to the woods just to drop off a thermal pad and maybe hang up a couple pieces of camo.

Thanks Scott. I don't try to keep deer off my access trails. I have a separate pair of rubber boots just for hunting that I keep in a rubbermaid tote with carbon activated powder. I rarely have deer pickup my foot trail. But I still stay out of my better stands for the pre rut starting in late Oct.

That was a grape vine hung at the height deer like for licking branches over ground scrapes. Not treated with any scent. Deer leave their own scent on the vine for the next deer to smell.

Deer hunting is easy and killing big bucks is easy. Its all about pressure. If a big buck is unpressured you will get him first hunt. If you can find a patch of unhunted woods you will find that big buck because they arent conditioned. The public land bucks are the hard bucks. Im speaking from experience and on a couple of hunts i killed a bruiser within 10 mins of sitting on the ground. Not pressured ... !

😂😂😂😂😂 the high pressured states you mentioned have multiple well known guys that barely ever make it to the rut because they are usually tagged out by mid October on their target deer. These few guys do this consistently because the best time to kill a giant is when he is actually on your property and not a mile away chasing a random doe.
