    That valve guide moving and holding back the valve against the valve spring was wild. Good video. The owner could get a rebuild kit and do the rebuild himself and have the original carbs for another day.

      First time I've ever seen a valve guide drop in a VW that I can recall, wasn't Even in my brain hole of possibilities when I saw it the valve is stuck open. And yes I think I state in almost all my videos if I'm swapping dual carbs out instead of rebuilding them It's strictly for a client cost purpose It would be close to 190 total a carburetor for me to rebuild or I can put two Chinese ones on for the cost of a rebuild for one. But I do give the option every time to do a rebuild versus a replace and yes that's why I give the carburetors back to the owner number one I don't need them number two's are good for parts or spares if they decide to rebuild them or get them rebuilt in the future

    I’m not big on engine rebuilds but I do know the valve shaft got to be smooth with no grooves to catch up on. That grey paste could be somewhat a giveaway snd trying to free up the valve maybe ? Looks a nice type 3 . Owner know has extra funds to fully service the engine . Great work as always snd still need merch to show off here in U.K. 👍

    So far, I have not had to dig into an engine with this situation. So it was great to see how you got there. It does make me wonder what else is hiding and why the valve guide moved as it did? Was it bad parts?
    Did you fabricate the T bar support or buy it? I did not know that about the square backs. Anywho...I enjoyed learning from this video.

      I haven't seen a guide drop that I can remember either on a VW hence why it wasn't in my mental Rolodex of possibilities when I said a valve was stuck open. Seen it on other engines Just never a VW or if I have I can't remember. As far as if this engine is hiding anything else... I wouldn't be surprised It is a GEX rebuild and they are not a byword for quality on the way they put engines together or parts they use. Don't know if you saw my demeanor change when I noticed their stampings inside the head. With all that said I'm just going to fix the current sound damage and lack a better terms... Not poke the bear and open up anymore of this engine reason being in the long run if it does fail it would be cheaper to go through a full rebuild then to pay me to do a quasi rebuild just for inspection purposes. Also the t-bar I did make years ago when my friend and I were racing his 912 he just retired his car from the track and was gracious enough to give me my t-bar back lol

      @@airkooledmotorwerks I did see your demeanor change when you saw the stamp. It sort of made sense with all the other first things you noticed, like the positions of the carb adjustment. I totally agree with not opening the worms that might be hiding. Better to limit your exposure to what you already know and have notified the customer. He will be less likely to blame you when something else turns up...which it probably will. Again, great teaching video.

      Made it years ago for friends 912 when we used to race it and made life so much easier at the track to pull an engine if we needed to... obviously also works on type 3's. And yes I build and sell them per request haven't in a while as I stopped racing years ago

    How much for the Trans axle holding tool does it fit automatics

      @airkooledmotorwerks  Před 14 dny

      I sell them for $400+ shipping unless pickup and unsure about automatic I honestly don't see a reason why it wouldn't just have never needed it to remove an engine from one
