So damned ignorant.
I love ur videos, but the bleeping noises are really high pitched😭
If you are still in a court mood, I would reccomend the movie "Trial & Error". It is a courtroom comedy with Michael Richards and Jeff Daniels.
if you want another great comedy you’ve never heard of, try To Wong Foo, starring Patrick Swayze from Ghost and Dirty Dancing!
What's a Yut?
The "I shot the clerk" testimony by the Sheriff is one of the best examples of part of the Miranda warning: "Anything you say can *and will be used against you* in a court of law."
Typist repeats the transcript in court, "The accused says "I shot the clerk. I shot the clerk. I shot the clerk.""
My Cousin Vinny is actually part of the curriculum in a majority of law school as it is a great example of the flaws of eyewitness testimony and demonstrates tactful cross-examination
Except, so much is so not how court works even remotely lol
@@Hey_Jamie well from a trial lawyer I talked to the end part where Vinny got in his groove well he said it's one if the most realistic Hollywood trials out there. Trust me a family friend was a trial lawyer and taught law at a collage.
@@Hey_Jamie There's literally a video on youtube with a trial lawyer talking about how it's an extremely realistic example of a trial, outside of the attorneys stepping into the well.
I agree with Coldflame bluedragon
@Robert Campbell Yes you are correct, Legal Eagle reacts to this film on YT and discusses the fondness that many lawyers have for this film, including the script's understanding of how legal procedures are supposed to work.
Fun Fact: Marisa Tomei won Best supporting Actress in this film.
Another fun fact, it's rare for a film to win a major Oscar but not receive any other nominations, My Cousin Vinny is one of those rare examples.
It's not really fun anymore but she's amazing in this.
Fun Fact: So-called "Fun Facts" are generally not fun.
@@jscan4442 the fact remains, that as a matter of fact, the fact is, in fact, that your comment is not a fact.
That year the other four nominees were in foreign made movies. Tomei's was the only solid supporting role from an American film.
When she was younger? Even at 57 she's still a smokeshow.
True Story.
Facts.
Accurate.
Love her in The Wrestler! 😉
100% facts
The scene where Vinny knocked over the Judge's chess pieces was not scripted. Joe Pesci was just clumsy and knocked them over by accident but kept it in the movie. Mary talking about Marisa is more than ok, she won an Academy Award (Best Supporting Actress) for this role
not easy to understand how someone who does movie reviews full-time , no matter how young or inexperienced, doesnt know joe pesci at all, barely knows marisa tomei, and hadnt heard of this movie. i'd say "glad she liked it". but, who doesnt and why wouldnt they? of course this is one of the best comedies of the early 90s.
@@ice-iu3vv She doesn't do reviews, she reacts to movies she hasn't seen before. Note that the movie was made in 1992; in other words 30 years ago. Our host is younger than that, so the movie was made before she was born. Perhaps she hasn't lived her life watching movies every night.
I think the knocking over the chess pieces part works because he said Jerry gallo and he later changes that he said Jerry Callo but with the noise of the chess pieces it's easy to sell that the judge misheard
@@ice-iu3vv Bro she is a CZcamsr.
@@Caseytify isn't she also Australian? I suspect they have less exposure to movies than average Americans, unless they happen to make an effort to be more informed
“Did Google exist in ‘91?”
This gave me heart attack pains
😂😂
??? why?
@@Gravydog316 Because the internet was not a thing in 1991, much less Google.
"Imagine you're a deer." That's always been my fav part XD
A deee-ah
Fred Gwynne (RIP) also played the character Herman Munster in the 60s TV sitcom "The Munsters." "My Cousin Vinny" is a really fun, upbeat film. 👍
*Herman
he was also Jud Crandall in Pet Semetary
I named one of my gila monsters "Herman Monster" after that character on the suggestion of a friend's granddaughter. I liked that show as a boy but preferred "The Addams Family."
@@jeffthompson9622 My first crush as a lad.... Morticia.
@@DataCab1e LOL! I knew that!
Marisa's Jersey Accent was REAL! When she became an Actress, she had to take lessons to get rid of it... and she's as beautiful today as she was back when she had a role as "Maggie Lauten" for the TV Show "It's a different World", back in the Mid eighties!
Both Marisa and Mona Lisa are from Brooklyn--not Jersey.
@@Cosmo-Kramer Correct - she went to school with my younger sister, in Brooklyn.
I don't care what people say, Marisa Tomei absolutely deserved that Oscar. She is hilarious.
It's a fact.
“And ONLY Mrs Riley!” The look the judge gives Vinny always kills me! 😂
Joe Pesci adlibbed that line. You might enjoy Only You, where Marissa stars with Robert Downey Jr.
and "the 2 defendants" ; )
You can see why literally everyone fell in love with Marissa Tomei after this came out!
One of the few to win an Oscar for a B movie
@@UKRSHEV not a B movie! LOL!
I always think of this as a Marisa Tomei movie, and not a Joe Pesci movie.
No one had heard of Marisa Tomei, until this movie came out. She won an Oscar as 'best supporting' for this movie, and has proven herself as an amazing actress ever since.
😂😂😂😂 you never heard of a different world what was written for her not Lisa Bonet
FYI: Grits is essentially polenta. Just from the southern USA.
Polenta is made from yellow corn, grits are made from white corn/hominy.
Oatmeal?
@@jsmithers. NOT even Close !
@@josephwalsh7546 Yes it's the same. It's oatmeal except with corn.
I will say. Austin Pendleton is criminally underrated in this film . He's hilarious in such a brief role.. hard to have that great a performance stolen from you.. But everyone in this movie was on their A game..
Austin Pendleton is one of those wonderful supporting actors who enrich everything they're in.
Joe Pesci had a really interesting life. He wanted to be a musician and knew a lot of 50’s and 60’s famous musicians. He’s in the Broadway play Jersey Boys because he kinda helped put together the 4 Seasons. There’s a CZcams video about his life. Plus he’s an amazing actor! Gotta watch Goodfellas and Casino if you haven’t already.
He has put out three albums. Little Joe Sure Can Sing, Vincent LaGuardia Gambini Sings Just for You, and Pesci ... Still Singing.
And Marisa Tomei won a very well deserved academy award for this film. and to this day people in court cases and who take classes studying for law degrees they actually use this film because of its accuracy, it’s an incredible film from all angles whether you’re watching it as a comedy or as a court film it’s just amazing and definitely one of my favorites
This film is such a gift of wit and dry humour mixed with laugh out loud moments! also I'm sure you would love Legally Blonde! Its my go to film when I need some girl cheering up
4:08 Easily one of the funniest miscommunication scenes in the history of film, IMO.
Marissa Tomei won the Oscar as best supporting actress for her role in My Cousin Vinny
It's ironic that although this has to be one of the most accurate depictions of courtroom procedure they still reverted to the old cliche of winning the case by solving the crime.
They actually didn’t prove it though. They found other suspects who committed a similar crime not far away who matched the description of the defendants in this case. Therefore, they were putting forth a reasonable alternate theory for the crime.
What was interesting is that the movie had the prosecutor dismiss the case upon determining that he had no reasonable likelihood of conviction. This is the ethical thing to do and prosecutors are required to do it. However, I think most movies have the case go to the Jury even when the outcome is clear, just for the drama..
@@gawainethefirst they also didn't win the case. They didn't convince a jury beyond reasonable doubt. The provided enough evidence to convince the state to dismiss the charges.
As others have noted, the resolution is that the charges are dismissed. This actually works better for the film since it a comedy. All's well that ends well.
@@dash4800 that is a win for the defense though. Thus they won the case.
I’m sure you can tell, but this movie really plays up American regional stereotypes, in a very funny way. The old world, slow-moving southerners and the brash, confident, and in this case, Italian, New Yorkers. I’m always curious if people from other countries can distinguish different American accents and attitudes as easily as Americans can, but I assume in this case you were able to pretty easily.
Also, Marisa Tomei won the Oscar for best supporting actress for this movie
I love New York lol 😎
The Welsh Twins just did a a video where they try to guess where people are in the states based on their accent.
Love that you did this one and also that you liked it as much as the rest of us
The hunting rant from Marisa was one of the best scenes in the movie. That rant imho ranks up there with Chevy Chase’s boss rant in Christmas Vacation and the f-bomb rant from Steve Martin in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Both of those are also well worth a review. Unless you’ve already done them.
Joe’s no slouch, but Marisa definitely stole the show
Grits are basically a sort of corn-meal mush. They're actually really good, though. A little salt and pepper, some butter -- they really hit the spot.
Pepper??? I’ve never heard of anyone adding that to grits. Bacon bits however are the best
Mary, the internet barely existed in 1991. Google didn't become big until about a decade later.
Another great comedy to check out is Clue the Movie (based on the boardgame).
I definitely suggest the comedy "Oscar" starring Sylvester Stallone as a mob boss in the early 1930s. Marisa Tomei plays his daughter. It came out the year before My Cousin Vinny.
Really underrated movie!
One of the (very) few great adaptation of a french movie.
In the timeframe that My Cousin Vinny was made, Marisa Tomei also costarred with a young Robert Downey Jr. in a romantic comedy called Only You. I can’t speak to how good it was as I have never seen it. But that movie is out there.
It's not great asi recall.. But they had great chemistry.. Was fun reuniting them so briefly in "Civil War"..
It's a fun "classic" romantic comedy set in Italy. I liked it.
It's what I call a comfy pajamas and a pint of ice cream kind of move.
If you’re really interested in courtroom dramas, I suggest Anatomy of a Murder (1959) (which many attorneys deem the most accurate movie portrayal of a murder trial) and To Kill A Mockingbird (1962).
I'll add "Witness for the Prosecution" with Charles Laughton, Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power, based on a work by Agatha Christie - you'll get a taste of English law procedure.
To answer your question, NO Google didn't exist in 1991, the "world wide web" barely existed in 1991. Also, CCTV? IN THE 80'S?? Yeah very few and far between and in a very small blip of a town that this happened in? Non-existent.
More to the point, the movie was made in the 1990s, but the _story_ is set in the *'60s.*
@@wwoods66 How? Were there faxes in the 1960s?
If you want to see another movie starring a young Marisa Tomei, watch 1993's Untamed Heart with her & Christian Slater.
Or "Oscar" opposite Sylvester Stallone.. But Tim Curry absolutely steals the movie.
Untamed heart was a beautiful, well acted movie that showcases Cristian Slater and Marisa Tomeis talents...
She won the academy award for this....pesci for goodfellas...both were great...hilarious movie
Marisa Tomei made this movie. The character she portrayed is every guys dream girl
Great reactions to a very well acted & scripted comedy, Mary!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽I don't think many women have won an Academy Award for a comedy, but Marisa did for this. An older Marisa also plays Aunt May in the recent Tom Holland Spider-Man films.
"Where's the CCTV footage?" Small-town USA in the early 90s.
And no, there was no google. The internet was barely moving beyond BBS systems and acoustic couplers.
lol no way
@@Gravydog316 No way in what way?
I’ve been watching this movie since I was probably 5 or 6 years old, just because my parents loved this movie. This movie is where my crush on Marisa Tomei began back in the mid-90’s😊
I love this movie. The big city people are so out of their comfort zone down in the south. I lived in a big city for the first 30 years of my life. Then I moved to a small town in Georgia. Total culture shock! I didnt realize how stressed I had been for 30 years. Small town life is much more satisfying and genuine. People actually care about each other. BTW, the judge in this film is Fred Gwynne. He played Herman Munster in The Munsters, and was also in Pet Sematary. He was 6' 5" tall and originally from New York. He was known as the lovable giant.
It's true they don't teach court procedure in law school. Attorneys learn by working for a law firm in an entry level position. Obviously the movie emphasizes this for comedic reasons.
Everyone in this movie did a great job, but it is Marisa Tomei that makes it infinitely rewatchable. I love her in this role so very much! She's a sweetheart and a powerhouse rolled in one!
Isn’t it nice to see aunt May alive after No Way Home?
I love this movie! It's so great. Vinny and Lisa are so hilarious. Lisa is just so awesome. I love everything she does. The actor who played the judge was Fred Gwynne this was his last movie. He had been type casted as after play Herman Munster from the Munsters. He had been trying to break out of it and finally did with this role.
This was filmed in one of my hometowns. The Sac-of-Suds is a real place.
The difference is My Cousin Vinny‘s lawyer was defending people who were innocent.
He wasn’t defending Amber Heard who isn’t.
The great Fred Gwynne as judge. Played in a cutting edge societal tv show, the Munsters. Took on social issues in a light hearted fashion!
Marissa Tomei's character is my favorite from My Cousin Vinny and she's the biggest hero of the movie in many ways.
The Verdict with Paul Newman is one of the best court room dramas I have seen. Definitely worth it.
Marisa Tomei was 27 when this movie came out. Marisa Tomei was born on December 4, 1964. Also, she has been acting since 1983.
She won an Oscar for this role….
That performance of Marissa's on the stand earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and always makes me smile.
Something must have happened to Vinnie before she was Peter Parker’s Aunt.
Well she didn't have any kids of her own so maybe it had something to do with *foot stomps*
Maybe it was Uncle Vin instead of Ben.
Still can't believe she is the same actress who plays Aunt Mae in the Marvel Spider-Man movies
This movie is the most watched movie by students in law school as well as practicing lawyers. They agree that despite the silliness of the movie, it is actually really accurate.
Legally Blonde is a must-watch film!
Marisa Tomei is still wonderful. She won an Academy Award for her performance in this film.
Vinny had a valuable commodity to work with. ---- The truth. AH's team doesn't have that luxury.
Oh man you HAVE to see Legally Blond it is FANTASTIC
Marisa grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She (and Vinny) were using exaggerated Brooklyn/New York accents. Marisa won an Academy Award for her performance in this movie.
real lawyers have given this film a good grade for legal realism
“Only You” is a good Marisa tomei movie as well and she costars with Robert Downey jr too.
Pesci and Tomey have some of the best chemistry, i love her expressions and the way she talks 🤣
I'm so glad I found this channel. I love hearing your commentary 🤣!
Untamed Heart. Have tissues
This is one of my favorite movies of all time
Love the overalls! Love the reactions!
RIP Fred Gwynne.
I love this movie! One of my favorites from way back when. Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci are such great actors.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
No google, no CCTV. Awesome movie! I love it! It's so funny.
This movie is a true gem... lol
Marisa Tomei is actually 3 yr's younger than Ralph Macchio who played Vinny's young cousin in the movie.
Today I realized I been watching a lot of your videos without being subscribed, and changed that 😁👍 love your content
This film came out in 1992, which meant that the Internet and the World Wide Web both existed, but search engines for the World Wide Web were introduced the following year, in 1993. Google in particular was launched in 1997.
Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for this role. Good for her. And she's BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
im new to your channel i love your videos and keep up the good work
Marissa Tomei is in an earlier film called Oscar (1991)... It stars Silvester Stalone and set in the prohibition era and is very funny... It is about a gangster who makes a promise to his father on his deathbed to go straight and what happens when he tried to do so. 😁
This is one of my all time favourite movies. And you can talk about Marisa Tomei in this movie for hours, really. She is wonderful here, and I have to confess, a movie star crush of mine for years.
Hahaha Mary you and your laughs are adorable as hell and it often distracts from the video! 😂😂
One of my top ten favorite movies, Marisa was absolutely 💯 amazeing. Joe was and is a great actor but she definitely stole the show.
I liked your analysis at the end. 💯
Hominy Grits is a ground up form of large kernel white corn originally used in indigenous and Latino cuisine. It was then used by general Southern US populations but available in supermarkets across America.
The character Mona Lisa Vito is a popular first and middle name of many Italian American women. Many of the names are named for saints or famous Italian people.
“Did google exist in ‘91?” 🤣 that’s cute!!
This just so happens to be Marissa Tomei's FIRST film, and she WON the best supporting actress oscar for her performance - actually the only Oscar the film got. She was and is to this day a deeply talented and skilled actor. And yes, her performance in this film has completely skewed my standards for what I would want a future fiance to be like. :P
Marissa was so spicy in this film. Love it
16:26 I don't think that's an American thing but a New Yorker thing. I was born in Alabama, currently live in rural Georgia and I've never known anyone who shot a gun out the front door because of a screech owl. However, when I worked in New England, I met several New Yorkers who were terrified living out in the"country" (compared to home, there's no rural areas in CT). One woman (living in downtown Berlin) I knew had her mother come visit from Queens and she couldn't sleep because she was scared a bear was going to come eat her out there in the boonies.
Which is funny, because upstate NY is pretty much "the country"
@@nekrospike Makes sense why New Yorkers are scared of living out in the country then
I love this movie. The actor that plays the Judge is Fred Gwynne. You will know him best as the original Herman Munster. He played a comedic Frankenstein Monster who marries a female vampire that is the daughter of Dracula and the son they have is a boy werewolf.
One of the best law comedies ever and Marisa Tomei was fantastic as well as beautiful.
I love your reactions ❤❤❤ keep it coming ❤❤❤
Cheers :)
One of my favorite movies. Let’s go!
This was actually filmed in Ga. If you notice the boys being pulled over, they are in front of a pecan orchard. Pecan trees are found in Ga. not in Alabama. There is a video of the filming location, Monticello Ga.
you have the legal right to face your accuser and that includes being able to see all evidence against you
The judge was the original Herman Munster!
The accent Tomei did was more of a New York accent than an Italian accent.
It's a Jersey accent and it was her REAL accent lol.
This was one of my late wife's favorite movies, it takes place in Alabama where we live and even though much of it is exaggerated there are some parts that capture Alabama perfectly
If you think Marisa Tomei looked young here, you should watch ‘Oscar’ starring Sylvester Stallone. Another comedy about a gangster who wants to go straight
I know they got a razzie award for this movie but I think it is extremely funny.
omg that movie is so underrated
She won the Oscar for this.
If u ask any lawyer this is their all time fav movie.....
It's kinda fun to watch videos that are out there of real lawyers reacting to this movie.
TWO YUTES.
TWO WHAT?
DID YOU SAY YUTES?
The YUTES joke arose because when Joe Pesci was because the British director couldn't understand youths due to his accent, so they decided put that into the film.
The delivery of the speech at 12:11 is why Marissa Tomei won the best supporting actress Oscar in 1993.
