The 1280DBS is the better speaker if you prefer neutral sound with no over emphasis towards a particular frequency. It's the best budget audiophile speakers for a balanced sound, well worth the price range, especially if you using to connect to a turntable for Vinyl listening...

Thanks so much for this video! I’m new to the channel and I’m very glad I came across it. I’m in the market for a set of great quality speakers for my setup which includes my PC and Xbox Series X, connected to two PC monitors with no built-in speakers.
Even though I like the price and look of the MR4s, with the inputs and some controls on the front, I think I’m going to spend the extra money and invest on the R1280DB. I need either all black or all white aesthetics for my setup, and the remote control might make things even better. Since I’ll be using it for gaming, listening to music, and content creation in the future, I think the R1280DB will be worth it. I also do like rich, hard-hitting bass without the subwoofer, and I think the R1280DB will provide that better than the MR4. Thanks again!

Excellent review, thx. I was under the impression that the Edifier R1280t, R1280Ts, & the R1280DB had the very same drivers except for the features, but I guess per your listening tests they sound different? In reality all three look the same, again except for the features which tells them apart (Bluetooth/subwoofer). I have the R1280T & found them to be too bass heavy (overpowering the midrange) but I guess cutting down on the bass would probably balance the sound?

A very informative video. But I still need help picking a pair of speakers for my PC.
I want to replace my Creative A235 speakers which have served me well for the last 13 years and I have decided to to go with the Edifiers.
In my country, 1280T (not 1280Ts) falls right in my budget. The 1280DB and Mr4 cost exactly the same. And 1280DBs and 1700BT (not 1700BTs) fall a little out of my budget but I can expand if it is worth it.
I want PC speakers which I'll be using for gaming, listening to music and occasional movie watching.
I'm leaning a little towards the Mr4 as they are actual computer speakers. But I don't want a flat sound and I'm not very sure how it would sound when it is not in the "Studio" mode.
    Please help me decide.🙏

R1280t, R1280Ts & the R1280DB are essentially the same, so take your pick.
All these are really more "PC speakers" or speakers you can hook up to your phone, and they do an "ok" job for certain dynamic genres, like Jazz, and of course pretty good as speakers for your PC, replacing these $15 Logitech speakers
HOWEVER, with these Edifiers you will be quickly at their limits, and what comes out of them listening to Power Metal/Metal and similar genres with highly compressed (not so dynamic, "loud" & energetic) music is awful. Differently spoken, too much going on mostly in mid frequencies in those genres, these speakers with their small 3.5" drivers are simply overwhelmed. Listening to Nightwish or other epic/orchestral/powerful metal on these makes me want to toss them out, since then they sound like cheap speakers from China, which ultimately they are. (And I already EQed them properly to get rid of some of their quirks).
If however you want "ok" speakers as replacement for bad PC speakers on your desk, something for Easy Listening, Jazz, background music for your bedroom or kitchen...they might be "ok". I can not rate these as "good speakers FOR THE PRICE" nor as "awful speakers", since whether these shine or not, it depends on what you're listening to and what you want to do with them.

I am going to purchase a pair of studio monitor speakers for using with my iMac 27" and Garageband for simply music creation purpose and I might also use the Adobe Auditiion for music editing, among these 3 speakers which is similar size and $$$, which one would you recommend? I am going to put the speaker on the left / right hand side of my iMac 27" and I don't think there is a need for subwoofer in the future as I would prefer to edit the music in flat response and most of them are voice over so it won't rely heavily on the bass.

Hi, Thanks for the test but I think you made one HUGE omission. The whole point of the MR4s is not so much the sound fidelity which is quite good but not amazing. It is the imaging. They have SPECTACULAR imaging. You put them right next to each other, killing the sound stage.
