    My plumber wanted a Grand to replace an already fitted (but leaking) hot water appliance. After watching this video I decided to buy a new one online for £200 and fit it myself. Took all of 15 minutes.

    Brilliant. Very clear explanation. Took one hour start to finish after watching video. Did what you suggested and dumped the plastic tap support. Impossible to get that clamp on and as a precaution reinforced it with a cable tie that held the white plastic filter pipe. Thank you again

    Couple of tips if you have a power cut the unit by default turns off so would need to manually turn back on.

      I've recently had one of the Quooker taps fitted. I was a bit concerned about the running costs of keeping water constantly available on the boil. After doing some monitoring with it connected to a smart socket I can see that the unit consumes about 210 watts in a 24 hour period when not in use (UK in September, ambient temperature around 19 degrees Celsius). This works out around £23 per year but I reckon that I'll easily save that in energy that hasn't been used when people overfill the kettle.

    I was thinking of getting one of those, and that makes the installation look so simple. What's putting me off now though is I didn't realise they take up so much room in the cupboard under the sink. I have a small kitchen, and storage space is at a premium.

    One thing to note which may be a slight model update - my water filter fitting on the boiler (blue one) was pre installed however it wasn't tight enough and caused a small leak when turning the water on so would recommend removing and re tightening yourself if yours is the same!

    Really nice video, thank you! I’m confident I can install myself now. I’m also installing a plumbed fridge at the same time which will live 4m from the sink. Would it be possible to tee off in the thin white pipe between the filter and the tank to take off to the fridge? This way I could use the filter for the dispenser as well as the tap. Basically what I’m asking is is it pressurised? Thank you! 🙏

    I’ve got one of these witch is almost identical to this one. It’s from Varena and it’s a Handstrom branded 4 in 1 hot water tap. So the issue I have is that I’ve changed the filter after 6 months following the guidelines on the manual. I have primed the hot water and made sure everything was followed in the manual. Now all I get is the flashing light to say the water is heating up but it doesn’t heat the water at all.

    Great video. I recently fitted an eBay sourced Etal tap and found a few issues. The ring that sits on the sink didn't fit properly into the tap body. The boiling water tap was very awkward to turn, in that I felt the return mechanism was very strong and button you press quite sharp. Biggest issue was when the boiling water tap was turned off the water continued to flow for 20 seconds. Even after following the troubleshooting procedures. Needless to say it got sent back. Not sure if it was a copy of just a dud.

  • @6GSF

    ive got one question i have is can i filter the cold supply to the system. as this tap is replacing a water filter tap. I dont need the tap as a sink filler etc its only for the boiling water and cold drinking water. I assume I can , however my filter for the cold is also the small pu pipe. Ive plenty of pressure, but this would reduce the flow a bit. Assuming the boiler works on pressure and. not dependent on flow i guess im ok ? Basically, i want to use the existing BWT cold water filter going to the existing drinking tap to supply the system. what does everyone think. ?

    I did not realise they ran with feed from the tap. So when you turn on the tap for boiling water you are actually turning on the feed to the unit.
    If anyone is fitting it in a new sink then plumb in the tap and tails before you fit the sink in the hole.

    Does it save much money than boiling a kettle each time?

    • @jonh1808
      @jonh1808 Před 11 měsíci

      See my comment above. These are marketed as a fancy new style of “tap”, or “electric tap”, or “instantaneous water heating tap”. They are nothing of the sort. What they are is a normal tap connected to a small electric water heater, a glorified electric shower. So yes, just boil your kettle, these electric water heaters aren’t cheap and generally you’ll be lucky to get much more than 5-6 years out of them, and that’s in a soft water area. Kettles, cheap as chips and just as effective.
      Filters are £50 for two, and they need changing latest every 6 months, every 3 if it’s a hard water area etc and they’re getting scaled up. Scale is formed at the hottest point, which is always the boiler, hence the filters. The heater itself isn’t listed as a spare, probably because when it packs up it’d be cheaper just to spend another £300 on the whole lot. And bear in mind, these Bower Palma ones are the dirt cheap end of the market, there’s only so much reliability you can expect.
      Having said all that, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the principle of an instant water heater for your hot taps, in a smaller property, sink in the kitchen and basin in the bathroom, so one upstairs and one downstairs, but you’ll need the wiring in place already, which no one will have in the bathroom, and most people won’t have below the kitchen sink. So bear that in mind as an extra cost, and Heatrae Sadia are about the best of the bunch. They’re a UK firm, parts are readily available, unlike most of the tap variants. Good luck getting parts and repairing those heaters.

    I don't understand stnh the boiler receives water through the filter , and that water to top up the boiler unit comes through the tap itself right?

    had me fooled it being so easy, until I thought about the power, I have never lived in a house with a plug outlet in the cupboard under the sink .... Oh well maybe not just yet then..

    How much does it cost to run 🤔 specially with electricity prices going up... this is on 24/7 so is it wasting electricity for example a kettle would come on and off this however I believe is powered on keeping the water warm?

      It's not cheaper than kettle, anyone that tells you otherwise is an idiot.
      They however pretty cool and more convenient.

      That's dependant on your needs and budget. The pricing is very different.

    Does anyone know if you still need a filter if you already have a water-softening system installed for your house?

      No harm in still fitting it if it comes with the kit. Your boiler will last even longer. Had mine 4 years now and it’s about packing up. Think this is because of all the hard water

    Hello,
    I’ve just installed one of these that I bought from Costco. When I release the boiling water tap the water flows for a second or two making filling a cup difficult. Is this normal?

    • @TheDIYGuy1
      @TheDIYGuy1  Před rokem

      The boiling water should flow for as long as you hold the tap open.
