  • On May 19th after Chasing the 493 near Rockwood, we went back to Durango to do a short chase with K-28 #476 as it was on a test run for the upcoming summer and fall season on the Durango & Silverton. The engine made a few stops for the crew to inspect the engine. Enjoy!

476 with a Diamond Smokestack and D&S lettering on the tender looks absolutely great!

I think it’s quite interesting to see 476 wearing a diamond stack while in D&S colors. It’s like a collision of time periods

476 is my favorite locomotive on the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge railroad roster when I visited the Durango and Silverton back in August 2004 with my dad. She wasn’t in operation back then 478 was still operating the entire time I was there I saw 482 leading a special charter train with caboose, 0500 and 480 which I rode behind the following day on the second train, and then I saw 486 with the third train to Silverton back then they still ran three Trains a day to Silverton I hope to return one day to meet 476 for the first time in my life

I love how 476 still is wearing the diamond smokestack I think it’s suits her keeping up with the heritage of how they operated in the days of the Denver and Rio Grande, western ownership of the line
