- All aboard! We have spent a few weeks in Durango, which is an awesome town with lots of history, beautiful scenery, and outdoor activities. But a huge part of Durango and its history is the railroad. We spent 5 hours riding the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (Cascade Canyon Express tour), which was such a blast, and then finished with some of the best ice cream we’ve had in a long time in downtown Durango! 🚂

Yes. Just now did it before seeing the comments

My husband was their mechanical engineer as well as a machinist for many years. Unfortunately, he passed earlier this year but my son and I are taking a Memorial ride in September to honor him. I love that train and all the Harpers have done for our community.
Oh wow, we are so sorry to hear about your husband. How incredible that they are doing a memorial ride for him. We loved the train!
It’s been over 40 years since the last time I’ve been on that Durango to Silverton round trip. I’ll never forget it.
My mother and I had a great two week trip. We buried my grandfathers ashes in a family plot in Ouray, he grew up there from 1905-1919.
Looking forward to going back soon, after retirement.
Oh wow! We loved Ouray! What a special place to have your grandfather forever!
First; I cannot believe that every state you visit, the tourism boards have not contacted you for a sponsorship! You two produce the most professional videos! Drone shots outstanding too!
Second is how you successfully film, edit, research while holding full time jobs! Keep up the energy! Amazing work! ~Cara 😊
Hahaha y’all are too kind! We wish it was that easy! 😂 But we are just happy to share these places on our own!
@@AdventuresofAplusK well you two are doing an incredible job! Bravo! 😊
Why pay for free advertising? lol
Great drone shots... I though the music was too over the top. It's the scenery that should be "The Star" imo.
Thanks for visiting! Come back anytime you want!
My son propose to his now wife on that train! It looks like an amazing ride. My travel list is getting longer each week. thanks guys :)
What!!! How incredible! 😍
The Grand Canyon Railway was one of our favorite trips and I feel started a mission to ride more of these historic railways. THIS one is definitely going on the list. Those gondolas look super interesting! To be able to sit and smell nature as you go by... and the view on to of it...? Amazing!
We would love to do that! We are hooked on trains now, they turn us into giddy little kids! Riding the open air was incredible too!
First time I rode the train was back in 67 with my grandparents.
It was amazing as a 7 year old the impression it left with me.
I finally went back in 17 and relived the experience and it did not disappoint!!
Went again last year and was totally amazed again.
I don’t think you could ever get tired of riding the train.
100 feet from you where you did your intro is Durango Bagel.
Best Bagel ever !!!
Sometimes I wish I lived there just for the bagels.
Will be back for another train ride in the fall of 22.
Oh nice, we will have to go back for bagels! We LOVE the train, it was such a fun experience!
Oh nice, we will have to go back for bagels! We LOVE the train, it was such a fun experience!
We road the train three years ago. It was cold and wet. The ride was still a lot of fun. We had a small rock slide across the tracks and had to wait two hours while the tracks were cleared. Our dog Penny had the time of her life when we were there. The dog sitter was supposed to take her out twice. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Instead she grabbed her from our Hotel and Penny spent the day touring Durango. When we would get cell coverage all kinds of pictures show up of Penny being the ultimate tourist. It was a great time.
Oh wow, a rock slide! That is pretty crazy! We hope at least the part you had to wait at was scenic! And it sounds like Penny had the best day ever!!!
Yippie! Dairy free ice cream options!!! We will absolutely be stopping there for a treat!!!
IT IS SO GOOD! We went back another time (in addition to buying a pint)...lol!
Rode the Durango Silverton 3 years ago. It is one of the few things the wife said she would do again in a heartbeat. Glad they enjoyed it because we thought it was amazing.
We thought it was amazing too! Glad y’all enjoyed the ride as well!
Highly recommend the train ride from Durango to Silverton during winter with tons of snow around you.
That would be awesome!
I've rode this twice. Lived in the four corners area over 8 yrs. This is an amazing train ride!!
You won't regret it! Go n enjoy!
We’re so glad you enjoy the train too!
My husband and I took my dad on the train in 2019. We had so much fun! We loved it! This brought back happy memories. Your enthusiasm is contagious!
We are so glad you enjoy the train too!
Back in the early ‘80s I lived in a sketchy apartment between Durango and Hermosa. I never needed an alarm clock, I had the train.
Haha sounds about right!
Forty two years ago Aug. my wife Annette and I honeymooned in Durango and Silverton and rode the Silverton Train both ways. The train at the time was still a part of the D&RGW, it still ran one freight car for the folks in Needleton and the cabins along the way. We spent our 25th at the Wyman(built in 'o4) in Silverton. We get back whenever we can. Beautiful country and fascinating history.
That is amazing!
This is a perfect day. Train ride into the mountains....and then vegan ice cream to cap off the day. Thanks for taking us along !
It couldn’t have been better!
I wish you could have been in Durango on the Durango, Silverton Railroad in the 1970’s , 1990’s before so much changed in that area. We went back there about 6 years ago, took the train again with my grandkids, and were sad to see how how much Durango has changed. So overcrowded and frustrating. . Even Mesa Verde looked so sad from the extensive fires in the area. It used to be so pristine and simply beautiful. I am sure you still enjoyed it. Glad we were able to experience our home state Colorado when it wasn’t so overcrowded. The rest of your trip beautiful! Thanks for sharing
I bet it was a different experience back then. I’m glad to hear they’ve updated the train since those days though to make it more environmentally friendly
I was there in 1992 with my wife . We didn 't care if our icecream cones were gluten free,, we were free and now still alive and ready to go back . Both 61 'yrs young.. Thanks for the memories!!!
Unfortunately my stomach cares, but love that places make it so I can get the full experience!
Wow! You've convinced me. That's it. I'm going. Thanks for posting.
Ya gotta do it! Thanks for watching!
Hello Adventurers😊😊, Southwest Colorado is absolutely SPECTACULAR! That train ride was AWESOME, and the history of Durango Train and the way it was built around tight areas along cliffs was AMAZING! Now, those ice cream cones...i just wanted to sw ipe in grab those cones😊😊😊😊!
We are madly in love with southwest Colorado! Beyond excited to share more of its beauty! It’s rare a place speaks to us as much as it has here. ❤️ And that cone was the bomb!
i was supposed to visit the cumbres & toltec in Chama New Mexico but then the Delta Varient happen and dashed our plans again
I first rode this with my wife in 1986. That country is incredibly beautiful
Ah nice, it’s so gorgeous out there! And hook ‘em! 🤘🏼
SW Colorado is the most beautiful place on earth!
It’s one of our new favorite places in the US!
My wife and I did the train ride today thanks to y’all we really loved the experience highly recommend to anyone. The town itself is also super nice and there’s plenty to do.
So glad y’all enjoyed it!
Silverton Train from CW McCall was a favorite of mine when I was a kid. I was very shocked and excited to learn the train actually exists.
I took my family there. It was a great ride that we still remember fondly
You are the absolute best!!!!! Your videos are incredible, thank you!!!
Thank you so much for watching!
Colorado is our home. We have never been to Durango. Your video just put it at the top of our must-do list. Thank you!
Hi A&K, it's been two years since you've been in Durango. My sister and her husband are there now. Your video gave me the sense of being there. Thanks for sharing 🚂🚃 André
Awesome! Thanks and thanks for watching!
My parents and I did the round trip excursion on the 4th of July this year and we loved it!
Thank you, what a great video 👍, we'll take the train in September, and I can't wait to taste the ice-cream.🍦
Awesome! We hope you have a great time!
Great video and beautiful scenery. I recommend the Silverton to Durango route in mid-September. The aspens add an awesome bonus. Take the train one way and bus back.
I rode the train to Silverton in 1966 and it was amazing. The route to Cascade Canyon looks incredible as well. I'd say it's more than past time to go back.
That is so awesome!
Guys, I'm a Durango resident, and proud of our town and of the railroad. I have a suggestion for you, should you want to try a sequel. The railroad offers a package deal, take the train up to Silverton, get there about noon, they have totally rebuilt the largest hotel in Silverton, and stay there for a night or two. NOW: Silverton was the SW Colorado mining center, and the railroad built its line to Silverton to haul silver, gold and copper ores back to Durango and then to points east. There were about 50 mines in the Silverton area (+/-), and each one required a mule trail to get supplies and equipment up to the mine, and then to bring the ore back to Silverton. Each mule trail was two mules wide, they're nearly all still there and make for fantastic jeep trails. A number of 4wd clubs come every year. So, get to Silverton, check in to the hotel, then rent a Jeep or all terrain vehicle, and drive to some or a few of the jeep trails all afternoon, get back to the hotel before dark, stay overnight, and then do some more 4wd-ing the next day. The train leaves Silverton and returns to Durango around 2PM in the afternoon, and take it back to Durango. OR, the package deal can give you more than one night in Silverton, which would give you 2 or more days to go exploring. Most of the trails are easy enough for beginners to easily traverse, and there are plenty of maps available at the various souvenir shops in Silverton. You can get plenty of help in picking out which trails to travel. Just a suggestion. You can get really far back in the boonies, if they were any farther back they'd have to pack in sunlight on mules to light up some of the areas. For more info on the 4wd trails, Silverton has a Chamber of Commerce / tourist information center, and some more info on riding the trails.
That sounds like a ton of fun! Would love to do that one day! Thanks for watching and for the tips!
Went to Durango and Silverton in Colorado with my sister and her family in February for my birthday. We also rode that train also. BEAUTIFUL place! I've always wanted to go to Colorado and seeing the mountains and snow there was extravagant... Will definitely be going there again ❤
you two are first class royals excellent documentary thanks for posting
Rode the train years ago. On our way to Silverton, the train made a special stop for us near the Colorado trail. Everyone watched us the backpackers get dropped off in the middle of the woods.
That is so awesome! We want to do train backpacking trip so badly now!
Guys I live in cortez!! Thank you for enjoying Mesa Verde and the railroad!
Ahhh very nice! What an epic part of the US to live by!
Thanks for sharing! Will plan a trip this year for sure.
A train ride with Amazing views, Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Kona kisses! So glad this adventure is a good one for the two of you!
MUCH better than the last one lol!
Y'all did a fantastic job... I'm so glad you went to the museum too. I used to be a narrator on the train, I portrayed Chipeta who was Chief Ouray's wife. You got to love Durango!!!
Oh wow, how cool!!! Thank you so much for the kind words. And we LOVE Durango!
I rode the Durango - Silverton Narrow Gauge 37 years ago, and it was beautiful. It was winter and there was a lot of snow, so they only went half way and came back. I need to do it again sometime, it was well worth it.
Snow would be so pretty!
I went to Durango with with my now wife and her parents before we were married stayed in the Double Tree Hotel with a balcony view of the river. We went on the River raft ride. It was the first time my wife had ever been on a river especially the rapids. Her screaming was hilarious. I took a glider flight and loved the scenery and views. The next day we took the Train to and from Silverton and had a blast. We were fortunate because the train was still running on coal the way it was designed and built to run. Silverton also didn’t allow any motorized vehicles inside the town either at that time trying to keep the feeling of the original old west mining town intact. I purchased a saddle and leather holster and belt for my 30 caliber carbine pistol from the leather shop there. It was an awesome experience.
It's such an awesome area! I wish Silverton was still like that. There are so many UTVs running around, it gets a little obnoxious. We're glad you had an awesome time!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Agreed! I was disappointed when I had heard that they allowed vehicles in town now. To me it was always something that kept it unique and gave you that real old west feeling/experience, especially with the horses being ridden around town. Thanks for the reply and its was nice to see that y’all had such a wonderful time.
We stayed in Silverton this past May and drove to Durango to experience this trip. It was totally awesome! We had a layover in Silverton which was good because we had to feed my two goldens and eat lunch. It was a day long trip but I recommend it for anyone who happens to be in the area even if you only want to go as far as Cascade Canyon. Such beautiful scenery. We are going back to that area next year but we might stay in Ouray next time.
I lived in Colorado for 30 years and never got there to do this. Now I gotta go back. LOL Great episode guys. LOL @ berries in the teeth.
You gotta go back! It was SO fun! And he ALMOST let me embarrass myself on camera! 😂
Great video, my wife and I plan to visit Durango and ride the train this July for our 30th anniversary thank you.
That'll be a great anniversary trip! We hope you have a great time and happy anniversary!
This train is so much fun. I really like it in the winter too.
Oh yes experiencing it in the winter would be a lot of fun too!
The JOY in this video! It's infectious. Awesome to see you smiling and having a great time after the "bumper incident". Durango looks like such a fun little town.
Thank the lord this adventure went more smoothly! Not going to lie, was a tad nervous to go on a train on the side of a mountain after how the universe treated us at Mesa Verde lol!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I believe it! That ice cream looked like the best reward though. Yum.
Soooo good!
Beautiful sighting
Hey guys saw this In my recommendation videos ! I’m from Durango co! Love it and it’s beautiful. I live in Texas now
Oh nice! We are from Texas! We loved Durango!
Hi Happy couple❤ i missed you! So glad to see you back again🌻 you're wonderful, love, love to see you happy! God be always with you! 🙏
Hi Dora! Thank you for watching!
I just got back home from visiting family in Silverton and I cannot get over how magical and beautiful it is there. Me and my family are definitely going back again next year.
We’re glad you had an amazing trip! We can’t wait to go back one day as well!
That train ride looked SOOOO awesome!!! Durango looked adorable and that ice cream…🤤😋🤤😋🤤😋
Oh and I loved the bloopers! Nice teeth, Kathryn! Haha!
Hahahaha just some berries in my teeth don’t mind me! 😂
I love Colorado! The Manitou Incline in Manitou Springs is a must see! Wonderful drone footage, can’t wait to follow you on your next adventure!
We would love to do that sometime! We’re not headed this way this time, but will 100% be back!
Welcome to my hometown!
Great video! My family rode the Durango & Silverton just the other day, back in 1958! I was three, and don't really remember it, but my brother does!
Wow that’s so awesome!!!
This is truly amazing
Hey I’m a raft guide on the Animas! Thanks for showing our beautiful town, we all love it very much :) Come again soon!
How awesome! We loved seeing people rafting on the Animas! And we ❤️ Durango!
I’m so excited about this video and that you both got to do this! This is a bucket list item for me, something I’m currently crushing on and I have the model train in my train collection. 🥰 Thanks for taking me along for the ride!
How cool that you have the model train! We are super into trains now, they are a blast!
Just forwarded this video to my parents so they can take this train ride! 🚆 Such an awesome video! I'm going too for the train ride and the icecream!! 🍦🍨 💜
You’re going to love it! Have an extra scoop or two for us!
After watching your video I added the train ride and ice cream to our trips itinerary. My mom and sister very much enjoyed both. Particularly the salted caramel ice cream. Thank you so much, I enjoy watching your adventures.
We are so glad to hear that! We loved the salted caramel too!
Love this VLOG....please keep the majestic views coming our way......
Oh we sure will! Lots of gorgeous views to come!
It gives me complete joy to watch these videos. Please never stop vlogging!!
We’re not promising forever, but we’re not stopping anytime soon!
So cool to have this memory of our train ride! You did a great job of capturing it on video. We missed out on the yummy ice cream though. Will have to try it next time! Looking forward to watching your next adventure! Tim and Cindy
Yay! So glad you enjoyed the video! It was awesome to meet y'all and chat on the ride 💕
Wonderful train ride. Old time
It was so fun!
Very nice job with this video. Thanks for explaining so much.
Thanks Doug! We were really excited to share this one, we tried very hard to make it informative and showcase the experience and history the best we could!
In April 1997 I took that ride and we turned around in the snow at Cascade. Nothing but Elk footprints in the fresh snow
Your wonderful video brought back memories of when my family & I rode this train a few years ago. Absolutely stunning! We were there at the end of June, which was warm, so we got an extra bonus memory. On our way back into Durango, when we were going along the river, the young conductor warned everyone that if you didn’t want to see the local young people, who were swimming by the shore of the river, showing the train “Sun’s out; buns out,” then you should go to the opposite side of the train! Well, I think everyone came over to the side where they could see; so I’m glad the train didn’t tip over! Apparently, this has been a known tradition, and I’m sure college students were involved! We still laugh about it to this day!
Hahahahah we didn’t get to experience that, but that is hilarious! 😂😂
@@AdventuresofAplusK I just read an online article about this “Mooning the train” tradition there, which was written in 2013, so it looks like this has been going on even before that! This article explained how some people were getting too carried away and how the town is going to “crack” down on it (sorry, I couldn’t resist!).
Durango is such a fun place. Glad you're enjoying the area. Can't wait to see what you show us next. Travel safe.
We loved it there so much! The kind of place we could definitely live someday!
I was not expecting this, but my goodness, I'm so pleased you did the train ride. The different gauges are fascinating. There's places in Europe where they have to swap mid journey, I know travelling between Poland and the Ukraine on the overnight sleeper, they swap the wheels so people say you can be woken. The scenery around the mountains was stunning and those trails at Cascade Canyon had a Yosemite feel to them ❤️ I love it when you guys throw a curve ball like this - bit like the via ferrata and horse riding vlogs out east 🙌
We have been really excited to do some new (to us) activities here in CO besides just hiking! We filmed a really fun (and at times exhilerating) activity/video on Wednesday that we can't wait to share in a couple weeks!
@Adventures of A+K Oooooh intriguing!! Now I can't wait to watch it! 🙌
Wow. I was there in August 2020 the area is so beautiful however the train was closed due to COVID , but I hope to return someday and take the train. Thanks for sharing
Aw man, you’ll have to go back!
Durango is amazing. The CT finishes there. So cool. That would be a cool area for a train trip. I definitely would choose the open air car too! LOL.... listening to Kathryn eat the ice cream.... so funny.
That ice cream was SO GOOD that we had to go back again before we left haha!
What a great video Durango is a favorite town of mine. Thanks enjoyed watching ‼️‼️
Thank you so much! We love Durango!
You’ve visited one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. Loved that ride so much when we went on it. Best pics ever! Definitely a must-ride if in the area. Now drive over to Pagosa Springs to soak in the hot springs. ⛰
We LOVED Durango! And that'll be the next video! 🙌🏼
I'm multi tasking right now.
I'm watching on one phone the spacewalk to install the new solar panels on the ISS.
The assembly of the launch/recovery tower at Boca Chica Texas on my laptop and you guys on my other phone. Three of my favorite CZcamsrs.
Whew.
Thanks
Bob
Wow, honored to make the list!
You’ve convinced me! I’m going to ride the train. 😎😎😄
Woo! It’s a lot of fun!
On my 16th birthday, we went to Durango and took the Silverton train. I got some really good photos. Best birthday ever! 🚂 ☺ 🎂 🎈 🎉
That is an awesome birthday!
Thank you for your wonderful videos. We get to see a window into your travels at leisure - good job.
Thanks for watching Judy!
Wow! One of my favorite videos so far. The scenery on that train ride looks incredible - almost as incredible as the ice cream! Have to add it all to our list :)
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it Thomas! And we couldn't recommend either more!
What a well made production of our Durango Train! You did an excellent job documenting this experience for others to enjoy. I've been on the train a dozen times this year alone and it's awesome to see it being put up on the big screen like this.
Saw coffee chocolate chip ice cream, now I have to go there! 😂. Oh yea, the rest of the video was good too!
Love your video's and especially that you are here in Colorado 🥰.
Thanks so much for watching Richard! We are LOVING Colorado!
You've scored another video shooting, editing, and narrating triumph! Thank you. Wife and I rode the D&SNGRR in 2002, and loved it as much as you did, except we did the all day thing, which was way too much. Silverton is a cool town, but you saw the railroad's highlights. I also love the way you guys review junk food while you eat it! Keep up your great work and safe travels, always.
Thank you so much! We were very excited to put this video together. We agree on the length, we loved the shorter length of Cascade Canyon Express. We visited Silverton by vehicle and are glad we had more time there than just a short layover!
@@AdventuresofAplusK I just watched this one again to bring back the excitement wife and I had 20 years ago. That trip was a super day for us, too.
I just moved back to Durango (which is probably why this showed up in my recommendations). We lived here 20 years ago and my boys were little and we would chase the train up the valley to the crossings to “wave at the train”! I have a small arts and crafts shop here (Artist Depot) teaching crafting, sewing and more and I am so happy to be back in what I think is the BEST city in Colorado! Glad you shared “our” special train! You gotta go to Silverton though. It’s a classic old town.
We totally would've been right with you and your boys chasing the train to wave! We tried to see it daily from the library! We love Durango a ton, it's definitely one of our favorite places ever. And we spent over a week in Silverton, it's amazing!
So glad you did Silverton and Ouray! Such classic towns!
A&K your video convinced my husband and myself to make this our next trip, thank you for the video tour very helpful good information. Thanks
Yay! We love that area of CO so much!
Beautiful place
Love Steam
also my great grand father was a railroad postman in New Mexico and Texas with the Southern Pacific Railroad and the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe railroad
That is awesome!!!
Omg, it's so beautiful there! Luv the story telling about the train
Thanks so much!
Fantastic video. Great combination of helpful tips, history and overall charm. You two are wonderful.
Thanks a bunch Michael!
Now I want to go back to Durango. My earlier memory is of trying to sleep in my car coming home from college in mid-June 1964 and freezing after 30 minutes! (I could probably afford a room these days.)
Durango is one of our favorite places we’ve ever been. So much to see and do there
Gorgeous scenery! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Always wanted to ride that train
That train ride looks so cool! After watching your video I told my girlfriend we are going to Durango. I think in the fall it may be amazing.
We are already planning to come back to Colorado in the fall in the future! Would be amazing with all of the aspens!
What a coincidence. I visited today some friends who have families in the usa. And Durango was a tip from them too. Looks awesome !
Ah very nice! We loved it there so much!
Great video. I like trains. If i ever go to Durango Colorado. I'm going to ride the train, go see the mountains, and check out that museum and eat at one of those nice restaurants and ice cream parlors. You both say it's well worth it. I'll take your word.😊
I'm doing this train ride tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Have a blast Gabriel! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Right on you guys💜it was a super cool place there with all the history and petroglyphs
We love the area so much!
I wish to thank you for sharing this awesome video with me .
Thank you for watching!
Wow this looks amazing! I want to go! 😍
HIGHLY recommend it!
