RIP Andy, Thanks for everything. Each song is part of my life
Oh WOW I'm just finding out about his passing now...Such a phenomenal bass player and song writer...Over came his demons and won his war...Rest In Paradise Good Sir!!! 😥🙏🫶
Well said sir 👍❤️
Such an excellent bassist, rest in peace Andy ❤.
Some bassist are bigger than others... Rest in peace my friend, always in my heart,
😢
50% of the Smiths is probably the most we’ll ever get. Rourke is one of the most melodic bassists in rock, great to see him still playing these days.
The bass definitely sounds like it should here!
Hoping for 75%. Love Mike Joyce ❤️
@@kate9576 Don't hold your breath, Kate...
Yeah. Moz should surely regroup now though. His music hasn’t been interesting for the last 15+ years.
@@joachim595 better without him
Sadly we have lost not just a genius but a wonderfully kind human being. And with it my youth. RIP
Though he never seems to get as much credit, Andy’s bass is as much a part of The Smiths’ sound as Johnny’s riffs. He always knew when to hold down a groove or walk around the scale a bit, they always played off each other so well. Moz is lucky to have had such a strong band to back him up, they’re the reason his vocals worked (plus it’s Johnny’s music anyways).
Absolutely
Agreed, Andy Rourke is an amazing bassist
Not to mention that Mike Joyce had to follow along.
I concur
Johnny like Hooky can’t sing but genius with a guitar
R.I.P. Andy. May you sleep well. Thank you for the music ❤
A sad day. Andy Rourke’s bass playing carried The Smiths far more than most people realised! His bass lines were the melodic backbone of most of their tunes. Every time I hear a Smiths song in my head it’s the bass line I hear!!
He is the most underrated bass player PERIOD
Headmaster Ritual bassline is stuck in my head forever
Agree, Barbarism Begins at Home for me, such an awesome player. RIP Andy.
so true
The Smiths were the VERY definition of EVERY member contributing to the Whole
Yep. 🌺
Andy Rourke absolute legend. Very underappreciated. he was a huge part of their sound. Morrissey and Marr get all the appreciation, but Andy was the backbone.
I know you mean well, but underappreciated by who??.. Think of a sensible way to say how great he was.
@@SKYSAW59
*He was a brilliant bassist who is adored by those who appreciate The Smiths*
RIP Andy Rourke. He laid down the sweet riffs and heavy bass lines for The Smiths and others for years and passed away far too early at 59 years old. We'll miss you Andy, but always keep your music playing.
Who else got chills when the now 50ish and the mythical Andy Rourke walked into the stage ? 🥰😍
RIP Andy, sad day
RIP you legend 😢 Sending love and light too your family and friends 🕊🕯
RIP Andy. Your musical artistry and legacy will never be forgotten. 💔
RIP Andy - great bassist.
The hours I spent in the basement learning bass to The Smiths/ Andy Rourke are legion. I think I soaked up that man's soul into me. RIP, baby!
Andy so underrated/overshadowed...RIP Andy...we heard you, too.
Andy doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He’s one of the most underrated bassists of all time. Really talented. Doesn’t matter if he didn’t write some of the basslines, his skill was unmatched and the playing is more important anyways.
As far as I knew, he wrote all of his own lines...
Come on, that's absurd. His skill unmatched? Better than John Entwistle, Chris Squire, Stanley Clarke, Pino Palladino, Bernie Edwards, Verdine White, Peter Hook, Barry Adamson, Jaco Pastorius, Bootsy Collins, Victor Wooten, Geddy Lee, Paul McCartney, etc. etc. etc.? I did like Rourke's playing by the way, he was great in The Smiths. That said, he was just a solid funk-inspired pop bassist.
@@sundrenched6248 Jaco Pastorius would have been enough 😂😂
@@sundrenched6248 His skill is unmatched. His melodies are a perfect fit to the band, and he's very mature not to overplay. The final composition is very unique, therefore, technically unmatched. Not by the standards you are thinking of, but by sheer scarcity.
@@sundrenched6248 Unmatched doesn’t have to mean how skilled you are. Andy’s melodies were perfect for The Smiths, no one play can them better than him. As amazing as all those bassists you mentioned are, I don’t think they can play “Barbarism Begins at Home” and make it sound the way Andy did
Watching this now in May 2023 -I swear JM knew time with Andy was precious. He knew.
I was there. It was amazing. RIP Andy Rourke.
Andy Rourke. There is a light that never goes out, beautiful soul. R.I.P.
This is the CLOSEST we'll EVER get to a Smiths reunion and I'm still so in love with this 🖤🖤🖤
Andy Rourke R.I.P - I was lucky enough to have seen the Smiths play several times - The greatest band of my lifetime and a band that literally saved my life for when everything was going bad in my life they came along with a message that kept me going & giving me hope that everything would get better in the passing of time - Thank you Andy - You are my shining star in the heavens now.
Mandou bem nas palavras.
These killer bass lines will forever be a challenge for up and coming bass players. cheers Andy R.I.P big man
RIP Andy🖤😔
Andy was indeed a badass 😢glad to see this track Johnny and Andy playing together
Watching this again after Andy's passing and feeling touched by how much Johnny championed him. You can tell Johnny's a huge fan of Andy's.
Andy (Smith) for eternity... 🥲
RIP Andy. I love how Johnny can play and sing Smiths' songs at the same time. Why wasn't Andy Johnny's full time bassist? Would have been cool to see him on all the songs, unless he was already sick at this point.
Rest in Peace Andy Rourke, the one and only bass guitar legend!
Rest easy Andy💔
Great to see Andy and Johnny jam together. Marr's voice has gotten so much better..
R.I.P Andy Rourke 🫡🕊️🥀
DEP Descanse em paz, Andy Rourke, The Smiths are ethernal. 😊☺😎💙🤍🖤
RIP Andy Rourke💔
Everyone chanting “Andy” was touching. The Smiths was one of my favorite alt bands. Morrissey, Marr, Rourke, and Joyce made great music together. I had posters on my wall with them. One included Craig Gannon as a temporary 5th member.
yes me too! i still have one too!!
Props to Craig….and Mike too!
Props to Craig….and Mike too!

Props to Craig….and Mike too!
Don’t hate on Morrissey, ever or The Smiths. They where at the right time and at the right place to make this amazing music. Each one deserves respect and admiration. Well done boys, long live Manchester.
we can appreciate the music and still know that Morrissey is a white supremacist
morrisseys last few albums are not great
@@joaquin5028 he's just bored England became Arabland/Anglestan lol
Morrissey stopped being relevant in the very early 90's. Meanwhile Marr has been killing it solo and in a number of bands since the Smiths. Morrissey's schtick was cute when he was young. Now he's just an old, fat, bigot. You couldn't pay me to go see Morrissey now.
@@coldkissofsteel He had decent songs all through the 90s, and a few of the comeback songs were good. Irish Blood, English Heart in particular was a standout. I saw him twice in the "oughts" and he still had it. He has since made his bigotry loud and clear. Also I fucking love how anyone who doesn't look like a crack addict in need of a sandwich is "fat", lol.
There will never be another Smiths reunion without Andy's incredible unmatchable style, contribution and presence.
That smile on Andy's Face!
Andy..you as part of the Smiths made all the difference with your talent..rest in peace.Thank you for your beautiful music.💔🎶
This is absolutely devastating news and my heart goes heart to Andy Rourke's family and friends.
It was such a delight to see him and Johnny Marr renew their friendship rather than being bitter like Morrissey.
Andy was such an absolutely phenomenal bass player with my personal highlight of his being Barbarism Begins at Home.
the mention of Morrissey was unnecessary.
@@unloveableandre Agree. No need to mention that c.u.n.t.
Rest in peace, Andy. And thank you so much! You were very important to make all that magic happens.
Greetings from Los Angeles. We'll miss you Andy.
Thanks Andy for the greatest baselines ever ❤❤❤

Descansa en Paz ANDY. Con tu música me has hecho una persona más Feliz.
RIP Andy Rourke
Rest in Peace, Andy Rourke.
His bass on meat is murder is superb.
Rourke's bass playing is amazing. The Smiths "reunion" that promoters tried to make happen years back with just Morrissey/Marr wouldn't have been the same.
So sad they can't be together
Morrissey has said never and never means never in this case w/ him. The drummer no JOYce just fucked it up forever pleading for his non-owed monies & finally getting it by lying his ass off in court in 1996. Joyce. Fucked. It. Up. Forever.
Plus Moz does not need the $, he is stupid rich at this point in 2021. Let lying dogs sleep.
He´s not playing live here. Just pretending he does. Sorry.
@@johnnymeyer4253 I'd love to see them bury the hatchet. Fuck Joyce though.
@@johnnymeyer4253 well, according to the Judge, Morrissey is a cheat and a liar. He was ripping off both Joyce and Rourke of money they were suppose to receive. Morrissey rips them off and your pissed and Joyce for wanting what he was promised? You think he can tour and travel with Morrissey and work a second job? 🙄
RIP Andy 😢
The Ace of Bass. What a bass player!! Top class Andy.
What a brilliant video, thanks for sharing it!!!
Bigmouth sounded awesome so much speed and power and the Phase on the guitars sounded fantastic.
Saw The Smiths in 1985 at Leicester De Montfort Hall. A memory that will live with me forever. RIP Andy...
RIP Andy one of the best bassists from one of the best bands
That beautiful bass is straight out of Valhalla!!
Thank you so much for everything, Andy Rourke.
Johnny Marr is so talented. He sings beautifully and is a guitar legend. I love how he is out there just doing what he loves, fun to watch.
Watching this for the first time. Hairs on the back of my neck standing up. How I miss The Smiths so much. Watching Johnny keeps me going though... What a Talent
Ditto!
these days I would pay to see Marr.. not so much Morrissey
My oldest friend, my best friend from school... Mr.10%!
Tragically underrated for his contribution but rightly getting all the praise he deserves now. RIP Andy
so true always when youre alredy gone😞i hope he knew how awesome he was to so many. is there another song apart frm Some Girls...where u can clearly hear him stand out? im wearing out my queen is dead🥲

RIP Andy. Best band I have seen live and that was in 1985!
RIP Andy. Thank you for the great music. ❤
God bless you Andy ❤
Rest well in heaven Andy. Thank you for your gifts.
Smith's basslines were always the best, amazing....
RIP Andy your music will echo through eternity. So glad we met out our friend's photography show... Godspeed to heaven!
I don’t know how likely it would be, but I would love to see 75% of The Smiths perform together again. Johnny, Mike, and Andy performing together would be awesome. Although I’d love it to happen, I don’t see 100% of The Smiths ever performing together at this point
How Soon is Now sounded fantastic.
😢R.I.P Andy thank you so much for the music 🙏
Eu estava lá. Momento mágico pra um fã brasileiro dos Smiths! Rip Andy Rourke.🙏🙏🙏
RIP Andy incredible musician will be sadly missed
One of the best guitarists ever.. Not just in England or Manchester. 😮
RIP to the Legend Andy Rourke
The Smiths Forever
Good to see Andy again. Such an underrated rhythm section. So very modest. They were the tightest tbh.
Some would, say he is the best Guitar player because of the sound 🔊, John Marr... 😂 LOL for me and other people who love it and the sound 🔊..
God Bless the amazing Andy Rorke of THE SMITHS...
Andy Rourke Unsung Hero Cool as Fuc Now and The Flat Top Days , Barbarism Begins at Home What A Genius Bass Line.
Rest and have a Great Sleep Bro, When its time get yourself ready to Come back and do it all again .....Who Knows ?? RIP
Impossible not to cry at the end of There is a Light. Johnny Marr is a legend.
impossible not to cry at the end of there is a light... when moz is singing..
Eh, great song, but way overrated in their amazing catologue. Chicks made it a staple.
😢 very sad that Andy is gone. RIP Andy
What this
I was in highschool in the early 80's and the Smiths were a big deal.
As much as I loved their music, I gotta admit I didn't appreciate them near enough.
Now at 56, I love them even more.
Me too!
rip andy :(
that drummer is killing it tho
Que hermoso ver a la gente aclamando a Andy, eso y más marecía, uno de los mejores músicos y bajistas de la historia, gracias por tanta buena música Mr. Andy Rourke :')
Johnny Marr is a guitar god. Bottom line. Rourke and Peter Hook are two of the most influential bass players even today.
Ah yes, another Hooky Fan!! Cheers, my dude :)
u forgot mark king ? the holy trinity of 80's bassist
@@capebuatid I forgot Paul Webb of Talk Talk also...
Peter Hook foi quem me inspirou a aprender tocar baixo.
Have you not heard of Flea and Mark King they to are incredible bass guitarists.
We love you and we still miss you Andy
It’s great pride he played the “I fought the law”
Such a tender moment, How Soon Is Now brings back too many college memories. Soundtrack of my youth and I'm already turning 58 this year and still love and rock to this song. Recently learned of Andy and Johnny's childhood friendship, two guys that are just musically brilliant. The Smiths was popular amongst my peers even here in the Philippines back in the 80s. My friends would hang out at the British Council just to read magazines of all the new music from the UK, pre-internet era.
Tears.
Rourke & Hart were one of the best bass/duo to exist. If one thing cannot be taken from The Smiths is how tight of a band they were. Super Solid.
Flea and Mark King are phenomenol bass guitarists to.
I Love Morrissey and I wish he would fix this broken relationship but my man Johnny Marr is doing just fine .
Andy forever🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
A bass player like no other.
I was there!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Andy's little smile on the outside......giant smile on the inside
A lovely memory for Johnny.
Such a great surprise to see Andy there!! Thank You Johnny!! Loved it so much!!!!!
Que en paz descanses , Great ANDY , gracias por tu gran musica , los Smiths fueron , son y seran la banda sonora de mi vida !!!!!
