  • Controlling a home's performance is pretty simple as an idea: set targets, and verify that they were met. In reality, it's a lot more complex, which is why we need to talk about the foundations for thinking through what quality control methods you'll need to use to achieve your specific goals for the specific home where a specific family will live.

Great video and so true. That which is measured gets done correctly. Please keep spreading the word.

    Your videos are very good.
I have had MANY jobs that were built with wet wood and the HVAC was oversized and poorly designed that caused mold and rot. I'm in Louisville KY. Come see me 😁

Thank you for your informative video! Do you know of a good written resource or workshop where I could learn to incorporate all of these concepts into a house plan that would be specific to my climate zone. I live in central Oregon in climate zone, five and very low humidity. I would love to learn the best options for my area and find resources to help with those decisions. Thanks for your great attitude and passion for the home building industry.

As always great video Corbett. I’m very interested in the ACCA 310 standard of grading HVAC systems. I think an HVAC consultant could make a great living applying those principles and being a commissioning agent for new systems. Hmmmm. Your thoughts?

Thanks Tim! We were just looking at that standard yesterday in the Mastermind meetup- only thing I really got excited about was how they pushed the buck to the HVAC installer on including the volume of conditioned attics: if the HVAC tech didn’t directly condition it, we pretend it’s not part of the house. Hahahahaha tag you’re it.

@@HomePerformance I like the performance testing part of it as long as the contractor is trained how to do it right. And I think Measurequick has a workflow for it now.
And I’m still in the fence about directly conditioning the attic with the same air I breathe. But we can argue that at AHR lol.

I completely disagree after listen to all of your videos and all of Matt reisinger's videos. And I love all of your content. I even went back the other day and re-watch the couple of your videos about makeup air. Having All those systems 100% is rocket science.

Do you know how rocket engines work?
A cryogenic turbomachine? Those things are 1000x more complex than this.

I think this is a compliment maybe? Not sure. Anyway, I’m not a genius or an engineer and I can do this. I also have lots of clients who come up with clever ways to handle all this that are original. I stick with it- hard, but not rocket science.

Ah now to find a builder that would agree to sign on a contract like this, at an affordable price, with an agreeable delivery schedule.. Or a Township official that cares about the homes being built by the usual quantity vs quality type of homes...
