I like having the connect module on my chair because if I ever have any issues I can get my home healthcare provider help resolve the issue as soon as possible. Plus I'm a technology nerd as well, so I find this new software really interesting.

I’m keen to see if the SIM card will work in a iPad

I've left the module in, it's not just for the app, it's also for wheelchair technicians & your provider.

hey Dan! thnx for the informative video. Damn your chair is still shiny and new. lol i have been plowing sidewalks with my c300. always funny to see people do a double take when me and my dog hooch drive by on our walk. driving a wheelchair in 6" of snow isn't a common site. lol spokane is pretty frozen right now. looks like you got some snow as well. Hope you had a good christmas! see you next year! take care!

Folks, everyone's circumstances are different. If it isn't appropriate for you to remove the Permobil Connect Module then do not remove it. As Dan (@Totally Normal) said, this video is for those that decided to remove it. At no point did he say that everyone should remove it. He was very clear that each person should make their own decision based on what is appropriate for them and their circumstances.
    Wishing you all the best.
    Cheers...

Can anyone comment on the differences and commonalities between the F3 and the F5?
I have an F5 with standing capability, which I enjoy.
Problem I’m super uncomfortable seated in this chair. My CP is badly exacerbated by horribly bad posture I’m very uncomfortable and my local DME isn’t ingendering my confidence.
Is the F5 the wrong chair for my disability?

the chair itself is essentially just a platform for the seating that's supposed to be customized for the person. the F5 is a slightly larger chair with suspension that's a bit better than the F3. BUT the F3 isnt bad at all. both chairs are mostly functionally identical (other than the standing feature) but the physical therapists/seating clinic/dme's are responsible for making sure the correct seating components are put onto the chair to make it practical, and comfortable for the user. the F3, and F5 have the same seating systems, and available modifications though.
it sounds like ya might need a custom molded backrest, or other things to make it work. I'd get with the doctor/seating therapist and tell them its not working out. its on THEM to get things right! properly setting up seating is almost an art form.. keep at it.. hopefully ya can get things sorted out :^)

I have one to add to the pile. It wasn't "medically necessary" so I removed it. Thanks anyway Medicare!

I am going to install the new G4 Connect unit that is meant to replace the soon to be obsolete G3 Connect unit. I am hoping some of the issues I experienced with the MyPermobil app will be fixed with the new unit. Your video will be good for anyone needing to replace the G3 unit themselves. I have been told I can do it myself, and it is "plug and play".
The manual says to position the seat lift half way up to be able to slide the rear cover off and on. I have also found it helps to moisten the forward part of the cover grooves with a little bit of windex or water helps.
Just out of curiosity, did you, or anyone else, happen to notice the charge on the batteries dropping from 100% to 95% according to the MyPermobil app graph about three hours after complete charging? If you did, can you hook up your non-Permobil external battery analyzer to your F3 and see if you experience the same 5% drop, or any other non-use related drop now that your Connect unit is no longer connected? I would greatly appreciate you doing that experiment.
    Happy Holidays.

i have noticed that the charge level seems to drop after its 'done' charging, but before the charger is disconnected. im not 100% sure how theyre measuring the power consumption via the connect module - but they claim the battery levels in the app are the most accurate. there isnt any current monitoring that i can find..(shunts or inductive) so other than detecting surface charge.. its a bit confusing as to why the app 'is more accurate' ....other than the obvious granularity of 0-100% versus 10 bars on a joystick graph...
potentially the module sees the charging voltage as bit higher, then when the charger goes into float mode, the voltage drops a bit - and if its detecting surface charge that would translate into a drop in percentage in the app... hmmmm **scratches head**

Correction: someone from Permobil told me the VoltPro charger does not provide a float charge after achieving full charge, but I just found the following from the Permobil VoltPro literature; "The Permobil VoltPro charger provides safe and efficient charging for Permobil batteries. Once the batteries are charged, the charger will provide a float charge to maintain full capacity. If battery voltage should drop below 26V (for the pair), the charger switches back to bulk charging to restore full charge."

Dan I cannot do anything to my chair because the VA provided it for my mobility

Does the " connect module" let them know if I'm changing the settings? Like power settings and speed and such using the dongle.

    • @TotallyNormal-
      @TotallyNormal-  Před 2 lety +1

in theory, yes - BUT ive been told that none of the remote programming functions are being used currently in the US. however providers like the VA have been known to use the management portal to check on things...
