Thats bs, mattel just wants the bag, we should all get the same chance at the drops because we pay membership and it wont change the bots it will just make it worse because they will have less units to sell and the bots will get them all in the end....

Horrible idea from a collector standpoint. I don't see Mattel limiting the number of overdrive members. They are chasing the bag. They've been increasing the numbers manufactured the past few years already. Notice most RLC releases aren't numbered so they make 20k+ of them. The only upside would be if the master cases and STH cases were included. Those are usually released with about 1500 available. With that said, I don't see them limiting the number of Overdrive members to 1500 so one of two things would happen. Increase the production number of the sets or raise the price. Both would hurt the second hand market so we lose. You end up with a set that is not as valuable because of the high production number or over priced to the juncture that most collectors won't spend the money to get them. Huge corporations will huge corporate. Whichever side you are own just know that nobody wins but them.
Scalpers are super mad at Mattel lol. I’ve yet to buy a Single item from RLC because everything is gone in seconds. Thank you Mattel!

If there's 14 cars release this year, it's a extra $7.00 per car to guarantee you get one. That's not bad when we are fighting sclaper bots. That's my opinion.

If you think about it the $99 is probably cheaper than the overages someone would have to pay for the cars they miss.
Know there’s some people who collect mainly RLC so if this is your main game you want to give yourself the best chance you can get.
I highly doubt it will include the Master and STH sets since very limited amounts of those are made so they can't guarantee it to everyone. I just made my first RLC purchase (72 Skyline) and this has already kinda ruined my experience. I might end up getting this membership just for the upcoming Skyline, Supra, and RX7. But we shall see.

The $99 dollar Overdrive subscription fee is on top of the 9.99 membership fee and the retail price of each car. Read the fine print.

Not really a fan of this. Just make more cars, especially the most recent skyline, and you can probably sell more and make more money than putting a $99 price tag that very few people will buy. That's just me. What the fine print also forgot was the shipping. So it's $99/annual + 9.99/mon + $25-$30/car + shipping per car. Not cheap obviously.

I am almost certain that you can find 5 people who will buy the $25 car than you can 1 person who will spend $99 for a chance at getting a car.
After striking out on almost EVERY SINGLE RLC RELEASE, This is a good deal for a collector like myself that really want the diecast.

There are some big drops coming this year. I always like getting 2, one to open and one to hang on the wall. Having one of my accounts being 100% getting one of them is good for me. Couple big drops the last 2 years I missed out or just got one.. should be interesting

I think its a fine idea but then if you buy this membership they should of added your 10.00 member fee to the 99.00 purchase and then you would only pay 89.00, which makes more sense but $10 and $99. And the price of the car?! Really? Where does it end! What other fee can they come up with. I dont know its just getting harder to just collect cars.

Came here after seeing another host I'm subbed to reveal the news. Very grateful the Home page led me here, too, and for your more expansive info & thoughts. Never bought RLC, likely never will. Seems scummy, yet not at all unexpected, that Mattel would try gaining revenue from Overdrive subscriptions rather than give their I.T. department the tools to combat bot accounts directly, because that second option drains money. I understand more now than I did, so respect to you for that! Still not interested in opting in even at $10/year when for $30 a car there are other options available with less struggle.

The subscription ends December 31!!! The super treasure hunt set and the master set don’t come out till next year So no, you will not get those with this membership you’ll have to buy next years that starts January 1. So this year‘s kind of a wash except for the three castings he pointed out might still be worth it. I’m conflicted.
Trash especially when other manufacturers are coming out with more detailed Diecast. Gonna move on if I don’t get RLC with a regular subscription

The fine print in the notes states that the sub is only available until Dec. 31, 2024. This excludes master cases because they release afterwards. It also states the Selections, Elite 64, and creation drops that are not RLC are NOT included.

If you only want a few of the RLC cars a year it's not worth it. I think it's crazy that they don't even give you a full year on the Overdrive Subscription, it should expire a year from the date of purchase. You have some collectors saying it should include the RLC Super Treasure Hunt set. Super Treasure Hunts aren't that rare, you're paying a huge premium for the RLC Super Treasure Hunt set because of the packaging the Supers come in with the numbered sticker.

Nope. It's making me ask for my membership refund. It's bait and switch for those of us who can't do the $99. Our memberships are now worthless, we'll likely miss out on most castings. Now scalpers are going to have higher prices on the secondary market. Sucks for the average guy. This is turning me away from buying new from Mattel. I'm switching my collection to vintage so I buy ZERO new product from Mattel. I'm not pleased at all. Whatever ... I'll spend my money elsewhere for recent casting if they don't want it. With the substandard quality of RLC for the price point, there are certainly other options. It's too bad, I prefer Hot Wheels cars, but I don't NEED them.

$99 is a great deal considering you get a 100% chance at the RLC you want but it sucks for me because I am not in the USA I am in Canada so I cant get it but if I was a USA citizen I would definitely buy it

What a lot of people are not realizing is that Overdrive expires at the end of the 2024. It’s NOT a full year. It’s for the remaining 9.5 months. Master and STH sets were already launched in January. So if those 2 items are the deciding factor to buying Overdrive, think again.

Another way for the "bots" to prevent taking over is to sell 1 car per person or pre-order. So that almost every member will have a chance to get one. Problem solved. No need for "overdrive" gimmick 😂

They should have included an Exclusive car for Overdrive members only with that price. They could have done this for $59.99 + $9.99 regular and still made a killing and drawn in subscribers easier. But to charge that much just for the convenience IDK,seems greedy

Allowing pre-orders at no extra cost to dictate volume of release product made, and shipped also combats understocking and bot scalpers.
You know what it doesn't feed into? FOMO, and the engineered ability to overcharge for that FOMO that has been intentionally designed by Mattel.

Personally I see this as trying to milk customers even more. On top of that...US only, so rest of the world rlcs will be even harder to get as clearly they will prioritise US customer. A lot of peps on HW/diecast groups that I'm in, already were thinking that 9.99 for normal membership was a waste of money if You consider last years line up. It would not surprise me if a lot of pep from outside of US started to swap HW for other brands. Personally I've swapped for miniGT

Mattel has just shut out all the International collectors, completely unfair, my membership is now useless, you can bet all of the overdrive memberships will be purchased and the bot problem will still exist, so for the rest of us living outside of the US will likely end up with nothing on any given Tuesday, we had subscriptions years ago, they were limited but at least they were available to everyone, l can't believe Mattel RLC would treat thier International members this way.
