Nice video & I hope to ride this myself when I next visit Kolkata (I was born in & grew up in England but the majority of my family's from Kolkata) - although I have ridden the bit through Salt Lake which was already open from 2020. And the first line you rode before the new line is the oldest metro/underground railway line in India.

1- Try Biriyani from Arsalan park circus, Karims Hatibagan & Dada Boudi Barrackpore
2- Tribal food from Santa's Fantasea Golpark
3- Chinese from Bar b q parkstreet, sei vui, tung fong & Bigboss/Golden joy in Chinatown.
4- For pubs & nightlife you will have ample options in Parkstreet and Saltlake area.
For inhouse brewery, Country Roads Newtown and Olterra Park street deserve special mention.
5- For a cozy rooftop ambience try Ozora in Acropolis mall & What's Up cafe in Southern Avenue. There are a few others as well.
You can readily look up about them on Zomato , just to be sure about the ambience & menu.
I did not mention Continental & Italian cuisine restaurants because i believe you already have the hang of those.

Ben, I believe you have a stomach issue. If you are having to go to the toilet multiple times, then try this medicine- Immodium. Its available over the counter, without the need of a doctor's prescription. 2 tablets should be enough, but they should be taken 1 at a time, with a gap of few hours in between. However, if you can consult a doctor, even better.

The idea of peace is contextual and relative. Just as most doctrinaire or radical Muslims would consider physical violence against and forced conversion of 'kafirs' (or non Muslims) essential for maintaining what they see as 'peace' (see social media content on Pakistan and Bangladesh), many would also see the caste system as a violent usurpation of individual dignity, and freedom of choice.
There is clearly no universal mandate. Is peace following the law of the land, come what may? How does one react if the law is pitted against a specific community? In the States, was George Floyd's death necessary to uphold peace (as the Minneapolis police claimed)?
The best one can strive for is non encouragement of bigotry and intolerance against members of any community.

There may be a British connection to the underwater metro system in Calcutta. In 1923, a British engineer Sir Harley Dalrymple-Hay had prepared a plan for an underwater metro system, which was in all likelihood, forgotten after independence.
In 1969, the Metropolitan Transport Project was set up, in which, Indian planners and engineers were supported technically by Soviet (Lenmetroproekt) and East German specialists and engineers. Also for the north-south corridor, shield tunnelling and cut and cover methods of construction were used with Hungarian technological expertise. For the east-west corridor, imported Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) and New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) were used by the Indian engineers and technical staff involved in the metro project.
The only other G7 nation (another island with a monarchy), that provided financial loans to support the metro was Japan (through JICA). Also, the Japanese technological conglomerate Hitachi is still providing technical assistance in this project.
So you see, it is possible to contextualize Kolkata's metro
as an international project, in which the Indian planners, architects, engineers and others involved in the metro project were supported in various stages, by many teams of international specialists who offered their expertise time and again, and also simultaneously one in which British involvement has been before and after independence, largely miniscule, if at all, or symbolic.
The only legacy of British colonial rule (if it can be termed as a legacy at all) is an eminently avoidable one -- that of broad gauge railway tracks (an eminently colonial legacy), which were used by Indian engineers in the north - south metro, as they had no experience of standard gauge tracks (in the 1970s, when construction started) which are globally used in urban metro systems. This led to the subsequent use of broad gauge tracks in all routes (apart from the east - west route). This led to cost overruns, as broad gauge rakes are economically sustainable only if the orders for trains are large. So, domestic manufacturers of metro trains had to learn everything from scratch, during the initial stages. Which is why, the older train designs are not aesthetically pleasing.
Had the colonial administrators planned the city better, with more spaces for roads and pedestrians, there would have been a lesser need for underground tunnels. Indeed, most of India's other metro systems are overground, or at-level.
The initial British planners divided the city as the White Town (for British residence and administration areas), and as the Black Town (for use by natives). The unplanned Black Town, was rife with disease and bereft of any sanitational or municipal intervention by colonial authorities, something that visitors like Mark Twain, and Rudyard Kipling found difficult to tolerate. Colonial era sanitation and urban planning was guided by racism, and notions of white supremacy, pure and simple.
Most of the areas of the north - south metro in the northern reaches of the city fall under the erstwhile Black Town area. During the 1980s, when (TBMs had not become common practice then) cut and cover tunneling was used, parts of the city would come to a standstill.
The reason I mentioned all of this is that although false glory of crown and empire may suit school syllabi in contemporary Britain, it has been (and still is) a largely painful experience for those at the receiving end of empire.

According to whom? The first metro line started operating in 1984, long after the Brits left.
The mess that you see on the surface is due to faulty urban planning of the Brits. The sole purpose of the Raj was expropriation of resources for the benefit of crown and country. Indians never figured in that scheme, except as a sources of revenue extraction and as irritants.
The British looted at least 45 trillion dollars (inflation adjusted to 2017) between 1765 and 1938. At least three million Indians died in the Bengal famine of 1943, due to your beloved leader Churchill. All the longest trouble spots in the world today (India - Pakistan, Israel - Palestine, and not to forget Northern Ireland) are the legacy of British rule.
Do your homework thoroughly before commenting.

It was actually Sir Harley Dalrymple-Hay a British engineer who designed underground railway with 10 stops and featuring a tunnel beneath the Hooghly river, to connect Kolkata with its twin city, Howrah. However, due to insufficient funding and doubts about the geological properties of the city's soil, this grand plan never materialised.
The world's first under-river tunnel - the Thames Tunnel - opened in January 1843 and was built by an engineer called Sir Marc Brunel and his son Isambard
Who was born in my home city of portsmouth, I went to a school named after him.

May be ur accent is difficult to understand for normal people you should try to pronounce properly otherwise you would b assumed like alien by rest of the world.

Great vid guys, loved your day and the ride on the local transport systems.
Hope Ben has recovered from his tummy bug.
My advice for a stomach problem is:
Eat bananas a few bites at a time over a few hours, sip water, perhaps a little white rice from time to time too.
That’ll help and will get you back feeling good within 24 hours. 👍
