Jon:
*Robert Smirke.*
"Joey" it may be "Jeremey", from [MAG100] #Various. about the spiral stuff in a circle of stones?
Yes, I'm pretty sure there's more reasons why Martin went to work in the Institute... something as profound... as Tim's...
And Elias describes a disruption in Tim! Not exactly like a distortion as in the title but similar enough that it could be foreshadowing.

This makes me wonder.... Does Tim just trust Martin enough that Martin was able to persuade him to tell his story? Or is Martin learning to compel...
I think its the latter...he's the only one other than Jon that has put together any coherent statements.
@@BeautifulEarthJa he was practising so much with the statements lately, and the boy's hard work started paying off!
I thinks it's a mix of both, they are already friends(kinda) and he trusts him(again, kinda) and maybe martin can compel a little bcs he's been recording statements lately
I think the recorder amplifies the compulsion, maybe? I imagine when Tim told Martin, his story was more disjointed and real, and then they went through the Ritual of Making a Statement, and that invoked the power of Beholding?
Ok but Martin not realizing that there is someone else in the room with him? Is this a thing...? Or just a coincidence? Because it has already happened twice and at this point I'm suspicious of everything tbh

Yas get that John season 2 vibes
Very astute observation
I mean (spoilers) if nothing else it's a pretty common dissociation thing; it could definitely be some early hints of his s4 arc showing.

Tim making such a narratively coherent statement without Jon's powers?
Interesting. There's either something going on with Martin and The Eye, or it's the Eye's direct influence on the members of the Archive.
secret ending where we learn of tim's sordid past as a public speaker and improv author---
I think maybe both?
Martin is reading more and more statements, developing a closer relationship with the eye than the other assistants, and it makes sense that anyone working in the archive would easily make a statement.
Or maybe it's just because of how many statements they have listened to, that help them get in the mood of how to give a statement.
I think it might just be that he's had more time to digest and think about it than other statement givers may have?
might be jons powers still, or maybe even the eye, since this recording was made for the express purpose of jon listening to it.
I honestly thought it was because of John’s powers still. Maybe I’m wrong, but the last time he was completely shielded from Elias was via the Stranger until he was fished out by the Distortion/Michael. Now that he can be Seen again his powers are effective again. Maybe? But that also means Elias can sees around the world? It’s confusing.
Just going to mention here that the original plan was for Tim to be taken by the Not!Them but they only had Sashas actress for one season. So they switched it around and now we have this.
Now thinking how sad would be saw Sasha in this mood if she had survived :c
@@CapitanaGabs well, i think they were planning a Spiral plot for Sasha... maybe she would have taken Helen's place?

Likely. A victim made avatar out of their better fit for the role than the original.....and thus being more in control of it, is an idea that youd build a whole winding plot around. It would have been Helen...or Sasha.

Ok this might sound weird but I think I'm piecing together exactly WHY The Stranger and The Web are such an enemy to humanity and the other entities. Hear me out:
The Eye simply watches and collects information. It's a knowledge glutton above everything, so it can be translated to the human desire for knowledge.
The Desolation wants chaos and pain and terror. Again, a desire that can be easily translated to a lust for destruction.
The Buried seems to want all life to be crushed and smothered under the earth, but everyone it's marked or worships it also finds a comfort in the idea of being covered and warm and smothered, and it CAN be translated to how we know when we die we'll return to the earth.
The Vast is the open, the empty the unknown. An endless sky, or field, or void. Though it terrifies us, the terror is something we've experienced for millennia when we look into the depths of the ocean, or an empty pit in the ground, or the night sky. Some even relish in the feeling of the endlessness.
The Slaughter? Primal urge to give into violence, tear apart anyone who displeases you, hold power over another living creature, sometimes to the ends of eating it, but sometimes just to shed blood.
The Hunt is once again something we can understand. The thrill and/or terror of being chased down, or hunting something else you believe you have the right to end.
The Lonely is SUPER human. It's probably one of the entities we're most connected to, and actively seeks out isolated people and feeds into that fear or sense of isolation.
The Dark is something that's been haunting us since humanity began, and we've understood it and recognised it for that amount of time too.
The Hive/The Corruption is another thing we recognise as a natural order. It's decay, disease, wriggling, crawling, things we can sense and be adverse to, but again, comprehend.
The Meat/The Flesh is another one that kind of makes sense?? Y'know, meat being something we eat and touch etc etc
The End, I think, is just,,,,,, death and non-existence. It undermines life itself. It's part of everything, and everything ever created will probably meet an aspect of it some day.
Even The Spiral is pretty close to humanity. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's few other creatures on earth who can succumb so readily to problems of the mind or perception. Ik lots of animals can go mad, but humans specifically because of how dangerous it is to ourselves and other people.
(Placeholder for any entities I forgot or haven't heard of yet, this is my first listen >:3)
But The Web and The Stranger?? They're offering things to their marked and followers that are completely adverse to the natural world or aspects of the human experience. Being completely hollowed out and controlled by millions of little things that are nearly NEVER found working together?? Much less controlling one living creature together?? And using the skin and body of something living to mask the fact that the plastic body underneath is for all intents and purposes, dead? Ik imitation and deceit are pretty common, but The Stranger seems to be more focused on having the unliving imitate and deceive the living (turning dead body parts into one living body, wrapping mannequins in human skin, bringing taxidermies to life, using something living to lure in its victims)
Idk, if the fact that Web and Stranger are of all the entities the MOST adverse to the natural order and that's why they're such prevalent problems, then I just think that'd be kinda neat lol
Cool analysis, thank you for sharing it! :)
I like this interpretation
This actually makes sense....add in the extinction and you get a trio all the other entities would actively want to destroy
Holy shit, this is amazing
Yea this sounds pretty solid. I was just going over them myself then seen this message.

Of all The Magnus Archives episodes that I've heard so far, this is the first one that has actually made me feel uneasy. Not in that "It's scary but also kinda exciting" way, but in a way that actually made me feel a small knot in my stomach. I never really understood Tim's contempt for the institute or why he's acted the way he does, but after hearing his statement, it all makes sense to some degree. As an older brother myself, I can say with utmost certainty that if I had to endure what Tim went through, I would have taken almost every single step that he did. I just hope that with Tim representing me, it ends well for him, because if it doesn't... well, I'll just say I'm glad the entities don't plague our world like it does theirs.
I like Tim. He used to not be that interesting but since Prentiss he really went full sarcasm
As someone who just lost their foster sister, this episode hit me harder then it did when I first heard it. I think I actually broke down crying multiple times, something I didn't do when my mother first told me what happened to my sister. Tim's grief here matches my own, bone deep that you never get over. She and I were just becoming close again after being estranged. I don't know why I'm writing this here, no one will care about this. I guess you could say I feel...compelled?
Hey, I know I'm just an internet stranger, but if you want I can drop my email if you want someone to talk to?
@@carlylegatlin6632 I would actually like that? Thank you.

I don't know if he gave her the Christmas box I sent. I know it's a year later, I just wanted to send you a virtual hug and say I wish I could make things okay.
Tim is honestly the best character.
Tbh, I don't have high hopes for Tim's survival. He's too deep and it's clear he just wants to be done with it.
Here is my prediction : (First listener so it isn't a spoiler, only a hypothesis)
I think (and kinda hope?) he will sacrifice himself to end the unknowing, surely after seeing a puppet with his brother's head dancing (or whatever Gertrude said). He would have his revenge and his arc would be completed!
And he would do this just after making some pun to John about how he saved his life (because of course, John will be in a deadly situation, like in every other season final).
But I hope John would be devastated by this? In the end, Gertrude was far beyond the point of feeling bad about people dying (or even killing). And we were told that Jonah Magnus let people he cared about die just to witness it? I hope that John would never go to this point :(
Reading comments on a rewatch is fun, but if you come back to your comment. Wow you were half right.

"EITHER KILL ME OR *PISS OFF*" MY BÖY TIMMY GOING OFFFFFF
Martin clearly developing the power of compelling.
The gentle horrifying circus music in the background when Tim talks about the clown. Man.
My theory from this episode and what we know so far:
So, once again someone from the institute went there because of something supernatural happening in their life. And although this episode is quite obvious for some things, it actually leaves us with more questions rather than answers.
For example, what did Danny see down there the first time? 'Cause from what he said to Tim, he would be going down there alone. Why, after coming back from it, he decided to go back down there again? Since he was alone, that means that he wasn't going back there in order to "save" someone, right? And also, why did he say what he said about "Joey" and "The show must go on"? Were those trully Danny's words or was he already possessed or, even worse, dead and what his skin worn by a manifestation of the Stranger? Was "Joey" short for "Joseph", the clown that is mentioned's name? When Tim went down there, what exactly was that that he witnessed? And why did the Stranger let him live?
So many questions, and the only way to get answers for them is if we hear the statement of someone who was there that night and witnessed it all, and I don't think that's something that's going to happen any time soon.
OMG the music in the background 😲😲😲
Man I'm really really enjoying these, poor Tim... My boy name some hugs
Ooooooh gosh I've listened to that part "I don't believe u can help" etc etc so many times on Tiktok that I jumped on my chair when I heard it it was an amazing moment jbjbjnsjsbsnsn

Tim is the king of sarcasm 😂
So we know, everyone who workes in the Archives has a reason to be there. Jon was marked and had his childhood trauma with Jurgen Leitner, Tim lost Danna to a Circus.
Elias is maybe just a bitch, but we don't know yet.
Martin claimed he only need a job, but can we believe him? Back in season 1, maybe Jon hadn't developed his powers yet so how can we be sure he wasn't lying?
Martin: "Just looking into anything that could stop The Unknowing."
Tim: "The what?"
Martin: "Have you not been paying attention?"😲
I can just imagine the unrecorded section of conversion with Martin informing Tim Jon didn't _just_ disappear but was kidnapped by the circus and it's murderous mannequins. I really feel Martin's exasperation when he tells Tim Jon's gone to China.
I feel like I relate to Tim the most out of everyone after this episode
nono as the oldest sibling, i see so much of my relationship w/ my sister in tim and danny, and so it just?? hurts?? so much worse??? the pride of seeing your little sibling coming to their greatest potential, how wonderful they are, etc. and the hopelessness in not being able to do *anything* as smth terrible happens to them... i started *tearing up*. tim's feelings are so *real*. he's been my no.1 fav ever since we met him, and just seeing him worn down and bitter is heartbreaking :((
