Yes, bring jean shorts!! All the blogs say not to but they were all that I wanted the whole time and I was so happy when I got to Dubai and could find them in my size. I don't care if they suck to wash, you don't need to wash jeans daily anyway.
Thank you so much for posting such an informative video. It is so refreshing to see a travel video that feels so genuine. A lot of people try to spruce it up to cater to the masses, but I feel that you were very honest and your demeanor is very likable. You're someone I wouldn't mind bunking with in a hostel! Thanks again, keep up the great work, and safe travels!
Thanks for the video yall! It's dope to see what real life stuff other people do to make it long term travel work for gear. We've just launched our own series on our annual long term travels and we really appreciate the community and all the help we've gotten along our travels. Thanks for fuel, experience and pro tips!
OMG that't one helpful video! I've watched soooooo many (un)packing videos but they never really had a system or a guideline to help me. You on the other side show me that I need one outfit for travelling, one nicer one, etc. (which is totally logical but has never been really pointed out like this). Thanks!
Its all just our opinion of course. Of course, as long as you bring a few key items its so easy and cheap to pick up stuff along the way. Tim went through cheapo t shirts/long sleeve shirts through the trip but had the same pants/shorts he left the US with when we returned.
Really enjoyed your video. Sensible tips. I love my packing cubes. I use ebags which have a mesh top that allows your clothes to breathe and you can put a dryer sheet in them. Do you have a packing video of how you pack carryon and personal item? Looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks.
I'm so glad you said "bring a piece of fabric!" Before I started my trip 2 months ago, I skeptically packed a shawl/scarf/cloth/fabric and it was been one of the most useful things I brought! It works as a towel when I'm on the beach, or skirt, or shawl when it's cold, or scarf when I want to not be so bland, or almost anything. :D Great advice.
+Fearless Jacey it was a bit of a running joke because it's something so #basic that we've all heard a million times, right? But it's awesome to have something and I eventually ditched the one I brought for a "souvenir" piece later on. Even Tim picked up something in Dubai- you can see him sleeping in the airport using it as a blanket ;)
I've watched a lot of packing light videos, and yours is one of my favorites! I can't believe your channel doesn't have more subscribers!!! Well, you just got a Brazilian one. 😊
Thanks for joining along! We're working on it! I ended up needing less and less as the trip went on (especially when we hit warm weather) Tim slowly phased out clothes until half his backpack was electronics, camera tripods,etc...
You'll be surprised by how comfortable you'll be bringing a few nice basics and pickup up what you need along the way. If we don't chat again have a blast on your 1 year trip!
Jeannie- leaving the US and living in Iceland doesn't count as already having left? :) Have a blast on your BIGGER trip then. ( Noticed you have two videos on saving money on alcohol in Iceland by the way....Now those are the real travel tips people need!)
When Finney saw this comment she went skipping around the room! (so thanks!) Even I know how much that girl likes those green pants. They are still kicking two years later and look brand new even after all the mud and dust and rain they've been through.
you re welcome! Happy to hear that :) I had green pants i really loved too and now looking for new ones... i think i even saw those online .. but just thought - nope... they dont really look good... seeing them on Finney makes me wanna buy them :) So they should definitly sponsor Finney for that ! your both are really fun to watch! Lots of greetings from germany!
Greay video!✌ Please make a video about some tips on how/how much you guys manage to save up for a year long travel. What did you guys have to do in order to make this happen? Cheers!✌
We know we know! It's something we keep putting off because we've got a long list of other videos we want to shoot, but we'll hurry up and get to it soon. We're just afraid there isn't really a secret trick unlike what a lot of youtube videos tell you. Do you think the saving aspect is most interesting or is it rather around budgets to save for each country?
Great video!!! How many shoes did you end up bringing? I am actually going on a year long backpacking trip where I will be in cities like Paris, Berlin and London as well as more rural areas so I am packing the usual sandals and sneakers but would packing a pair of booties be a good idea as well since I am going to more "fancy" cities/areas? Thank you!!!
Hah the struggle is real! (Hopefully) you are heading to Europe first- that way go ahead and bring a pair you’re okay with parting with and donate/throw them away when you leave the cities. If you’re going to Asia first - that’s ok- just grab a cheap pair that will do the job for when you need them. I ended up with so many cheap temporary clothing items for any specific area that I then got rid of when the climate/area changed! Enjoy your trip!!
hi! when did you go to new zealand? i am going there all through january/febuary and wanted to know if it was that cold thankyou very much. really helpfull video
It was closer to May/June while we were there. We had a few cold nights for sure (especially on the south island). Even though you're going during summer you'll still need some warm clothes for when you're at higher elevations.
New to your channel! Hey do you know which Prana pants you have? I have been eyeing them for a while for travel, there Halle Pants, Meme Pants... those are the two I have been looking at. Just curious If you have one of those 2 styles? :)
Finny is on her second pair of Halle pants. (I've even bought a pair of pranas after she wouldn't stop talking about how great they are.) trippedtravelgear.com/collections/frontpage/products/prana-living-womens-regular-inseam-halle-pant-coal-6
Hello ! thank you for this usefull and funny video ! I have a question for Fin. You said you were 5'11, right ? I'm French, and in France we don't use that same measuring system but, I believe I'm 5'10. So, the question is, where do you find your leggins ? It seems that the one you showed for the outfit n°1 is pretty long ? But I might be wrong. I cannot find leggins that are longer than L31. It's really annoying ! I wonder if I can order some abroad.
So, this is a weird question, but where would you wash your clothes? I have looked and no ones answer this question! I am taking a trip around the world for 2 year and I have no idea where to wash clothes.
Not a weird question at all! For most of europe we kept a small baggie of washing powder with us when we came upon washing machines....otherwise, we just would wash in sinks or tubs and then hang dry. In Asia we mostly paid for laundry service. It was inexpensive and for some reason if we tried to line dry clothes we it was a huge hassle to get them dry without beginning to smell from the humidity! In places like NZ we simply stopped at laundrymats and sat around for a few hours while washing our clothes. Mostly though? We got really good at handwashing clothes- kept it simple.
Glad you found it! Little sidenote- we're going to start working on producing our own toiletry bags in 2019. Would love if you revisited and left a note about what you liked/didn't like about the sea2summit toiletry bag- would be helpful to have input when we go to produce ours!
It will! Here's the deal- We had one for sale but weren't really happy with quality. We went back to the drawing board found a new supplier who could guarantee quality and do some customization for us. Daybags will be available at the end of the month in the US Amazon store. If you dislike the zipper top option, we're working on a drawstring bag as well (it's gonna be sick) but that's two to three months out as we're just getting prototype samples now.
+Phee Kasemphantai no worries! We've had our osprey porters for a few years now. I believe they are 46 liters. They are in perfect shape still. Built super tough.
Yes, bring jean shorts!! All the blogs say not to but they were all that I wanted the whole time and I was so happy when I got to Dubai and could find them in my size. I don't care if they suck to wash, you don't need to wash jeans daily anyway.
I love watching you explain anything!! Your energy is amazing ! You give me asmr !! Your awesome!!!

You just made my day Jessica! We definitely try to stay as honest as possible. Cheers to a potential future hostel run-in! All the best-
WorldTraveler | HD Thailand in October-November, you never know!
This is by far one of the top carry-on packing videos on CZcams! Thank you so much for posting it.
+Fearless U thank you so much for the kind words!!
Definitely a useful video, thanks!
Cool video! I'm going to Colombia for a few months and this was more helpful than most other videos I've seen so far. Thanks so much!
Thanks for the kind words Tiffany! Enjoy your trip to Colombia-- that's high on our bucket list!
Thankyou your videos are all helpful

Watched twice! Thanks to you...I purchased Ospey Porter 46 and packing cubes for my 2-yr journey 😊
Can't say enough- we're still beating our Porters over three years later and they look brand new. Osprey puts out such awesome stuff.
Love this video! So helpful thanks! And your jean shorts are soooo cute! Where did you get them from?

best tip of ALL the gazillion travel videos I've watched: pack clothes last - thx!
It doesn't make sense....but then it kind of does.
Legit the best packing advice I've heard

You are naturally beautiful. Don't ever worry about putting on makeup for a video! All you need is sunscreen and a smile. Thanks for sharing.

great video. what's the name of the toiletry bag? the link isn't working
+R Riley they are sea2summit toiletry bags. We'll get on that link.
