Build quality on this is vastly better than the Nikon PC-E F mount lenses.
Given the price of the 30mm TS, and age of the PC-E lenses, apart from the 19mm, this is not unexpected ;-)
Both Nikon and Canon have lenses which would do with revising or migrating to mirrorless versions
@@KeithCooper true of course, but that only serves to highlight that Nikon haven’t yet produced a Z mount tilt-shift. Despite quite a number of Z lenses, they have completely neglected tilt-shift lenses, despite Nikon mirrorless being out since 2018. And, they have taken most if not all of the F mount PC-E off sale anyway. I suspect Fujifilm has taken a lot of would be Z mount tilt-shift sales. Even if they make one now, they can’t compete with the Fujifilm sensor size.
Yes, given the optical quality of the PC-E19, I was a bit surprised they didn't produce a Z version. The relative narrowness of the F mount did not help performance.
The newest Canon 50/90/135 all work well on the Fuji compared to the older TS-E17 and 24.
The lens ring is of the same modeling as the one for the GF 100-200 5.6, delivered as a part of that lens purchase

Hi Keith, thanks for the video. Is the lens too big and heavy to mount the camera to the tripod? Or do you need to mount the lens to the tripod? Thanks so much, Andy
Both are fine, but the key is perhaps taking the camera off the tripod when moving very far. It feels a lot of weight on the mount and shift mechanism either way.
Of course, one benefit of the foot, is that it reduces parallax if you want to stitch - that again depends on subject
The GFX100S has had criticisms over the sturdiness of its tripod socket, so I'm using a custom L bracket to even the loading a bit.
@@KeithCooper thanks so much for the reply. Fuji sent me one to test for them and with no L bracket was not feeling overly confident. The parallax makes lots of sense - shift the sensor not the lens! Thanks again

Hello Keith. Thanks for your in depth reviews. I'm interested in using a T/S lens to achieve similar effects to those created by the US fine art photographer Keith Carter. Do you, in any of your videos/articles cover how he achieves those effects? Or how the lesn should be used to create those kinds of image? Thanks for your time.

Keith for the diagonal shifting, wouldn't one need 15 deg indents for putting the rotation at 45 deg? Thanks for the reviews.
Yes, 15º indents do make it easier in some instances, but don't forget that the screen on the back is telling you the exact rotation of the mount.
Also I quite rarely find the required shift direction in shots matches up with a specific value. This is one reason that diagonal shift is slightly easer with the camera fixed and the lens moving, as opposed to when using the lens collar.
Hi, this is a question regarding Fuji and their TS lenses and converters. With all of my Canon TS gear I often use a 1.4x converter to change the focal length. So with my 4 Canon TS lenses, I actually have eight focal length lenses. Does Fuji have a converter that will allow this to happen for their two lenses? A 35mm TS lens, my 24mm with the 1.4x converter is a great focal length in the quiver of lenses. Thanks for any and all feedback!
Yes, they have a 1.4TC BUT it is only listed as compatible with two lenses

there is big difference between moving lens and moving camera body for shifting if you want to have perfect stitiching.
I'd say it depends on just what it is you are photographing [ and definition of 'perfect' ;-) ]
For myself, the necessity for camera movement varies YMMV
one other issue with the f 5.6, like LF lenses, or MF for that matter; if you open up too much, the dof goes way too thin, so thin in fact it becomes difficult to focus ( the gearing in the system isn't fine enough to get the precision required)- think of it like the Leica 50mm F 0.95 or the 75mm F1.25 these are both Rangefinder lenses,
Yes, but due to the shallower dof than normal f 1.4/1.8/2.8 lenses it is harder to focus on manual M cameras, For this very reason, the dof is too shallow for accurate manual focus with this system.
Large format is slightly different, however, for f 5.6 /f 9 lenses you have a Fresnel screen
[giving a brighter image], also the ground glass is bigger, and the rail/bed of view cameras affords more room, to focus, and also many of the focussing systems are geared, to increase the precision, to aid in this regard.( also the image circle is so much wider, that getting to the edge is only rarely a problem, as this is at the limits of the movements themselves- if the correct lens, for format, and image circle coverage is chosen).
I'm minded to say that the combination of magnified rear screen, EVF, focus peaking and sheer ease of use make this lens on the GFX100S generally easier to use than any rear optical glass screen I've ever used.
The lens and system is definitely aimed more at people moving from Canon/Nikon T/S lenses than the very small market for those who understand the use of large format cameras.
My [likely] audience for these videos is very much in the former category - if you know/use LF you should already know all this stuff pretty well ;-)
@@KeithCooper thanks, But I am only learning LF, as I have wanted to experiment with these movements, but the choice between wide and portrait t/s lenses (Nikon/Canon) has always confused me, and also being way overpriced for my budget; I get what you say, I am just putting in my two bobs worth, from my Autistic knowledge, research and passion of the subject, esp. for manual cameras, and human interface with tech. and my own want for those "vouge" and other images, these lenses make, with their control of focal plane and selective focus. ( I am also an avid watcher of the Matt Marassh channel "Large Format Friday", so have absorbed a bit off matt, and his 5 seasons of CZcams content).

i imagine that if Canon made the tse-24 in f5.6, it might perform even betterment and, I wonder i Canon has improved the tse-24 optics.coatings, in the many years since you bought it?

At this point it moot, canon will never introduce a new or refreshed ef lens…. Their focus is on RF and those would never be adaptable to GF…
It might well do - the actual TS-E24 you can still get will be pretty much identical to the one I have [just not so used!]
I added the appendix to the [written] review about the TS-E24 as much as anything as an antidote to some of the 'comparisons' I've seen mentioned.
I think we should see 24mm Canon and Nikon T/S lenses for RF and Z mount before too long. The current Nikon PC-E lenses are all hampered by the relatively small F mount - that and apart form the 19mm, they really show their age.
Does this 30mm lens has same compression as canon 24mm TS on GFX ?

The field of view of the 30mm TS on the GFX100S is similar to the TS-E24 on my 5Ds although of course the aspect ratio is slightly different

Broadly - as in the FOV is similar

Compression is solely dependent on focal length - not anything derived, such as Field Of View - or the nonsense of “full frame equivalent focal length” - where the correct term is what Keith alludes to “field of view equivalence”… i hope that any photographer serious enough to consider tilt shift lenses knows facts like this- but, better repeated once too many times than not…
BH photo now says this lens wont be in store until mid 2024. Fuji, what the heck is going on???

Fuji lenses are absolutely terrible in manual focus. This is nightmare because of wire focus.
This lens is fully manual focus, so your comment absolutely does not apply to this lens
