  • The Oxi One sequencer is a powerful MIDI tool for making music with your synths. In this tutorial I will show you how to connect your synths and keyboards over MIDI to the Oxi One to make music.
    The Oxi One can send MIDI on USB, TRS MIDI and even Bluetooth, so no matter what gear you have you will find a way to control it from the Oxi One. I'll explain how to route MIDI from the Oxi One sequencers to different ports, select channels, and use Bluetooth to play MIDI soft-synths on your iPad.
    Note: some of the features in this video require the latest 3.0 firmware for the Oxi One, so make sure you update to the latest version!

      I don't own the Novation so can't compare them. It does seem like a very powerful controller for a DAW and external synths. The Oxi One has more generative capability, and many more CV/gate connections for modular.

      @@SynthDad i dont't understand. how can i control 48 poly synths if the the oxi one only has 4 sequencer tracks. care to explain? i am seaching for a hardware sequencer to use in live performances. having 8 polysynths in my setup (that i am sequencing currently with a roland mc-707) makes) makes me need more than 4 midi tracks.

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  Před rokem +1

      @@hugocaldeiravinagre Sure - each of those 4 tracks are actually sequencers which can be polyphonic. In multipart mode each sequencer breaks out into 8 tracks, each of which can be mapped to a different MIDI channel to send notes. So that gives you 4x8 = 32 individual MIDI channels. But how are these sent? The Oxi Split adapter connects to the MIDI port and breaks the single MIDI output on the Oxi One into 3 DIN ports - A, B and C. On the Oxi One you can map a track to a MIDI channel in one of those 3 banks.

      @SynthDad  Před 7 měsíci

      Have you checked the MIDI In channel filtering setting in the Config menu? Make sure it's set to MIDI Channel so the sequencer is listening for notes on that channel. In other words if sequencer 1 is set to send on channel 1, it will also listen for notes on channel 1.

    Hello and thank you so much. You show how to hook up a USB MIDI Keyboard. I am wanting to use the 5-pin midi out on my keyboard in to the OXI via the Type A TRS cable that came with the OXI - I am using BLE in the OXI to connect to my MIDI Hub. When I connect this way the external keyboard works, but only triggers chords - not single notes...and they are 'scaled' as if driving the OXI in chord mode - but when I use the MIDI Master out on the 5-pin MIDI out of the keyboard, and therefore connected to the same MIDI Hub/same set-up and settings, the keyboard triggers individual notes as you would expect and want. I am unsure what I'm doing wrong. Any guidance you can offer? The OXI as you know can be configured as mono, poly, chords, etc...and it's keyboard when BLE'd to the hub will react correctly dependent on how the chosen sequencer is configured, so I don't understand why the MIDI Thru will only trigger chords. Reading the manual it says it echoes MIDI IN to MIDI OUT if activated - I was hoping to 'piggy back' off of the MIDI in of the OXI and BLE over to the hub to add improvisation over the sequence- I did read about the MIDI in channel filtering - perhaps this is the culprit as I looked and it is set to Ch & Note (Multi) - I need to try it and vary those settings I believe, to see if that effects the Thru...?
    Thank you!

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Wow that is a complex setup and I'm not sure I can help you debug it without a lot more detail. The Oxi can definitely host a USB MIDI keyboard, but the question is what it the MIDI hub doing with the MIDI data it receives? What mode is the sequencer in on the Oxi One?

    • @danrosesexperiment
      @danrosesexperiment Před 5 měsíci

      @@SynthDad I am humbled by your response - thank you! The MIDI IN Filter on the OXI (in the MIDI Menu)was indeed the culprit - when turned Off, the external keyboard connected via 5 pin MIDI to TRS In of OXI One, triggered single notes in scale (440) of the destination synth module...when turned to other settings (the MIDI IN Filter) the external keyboard triggers chords. I am not used to a filter on the MIDI input that does this on other devices...learning every day!!

    @mrferrera4444 Před 5 měsíci

    I'm an SQ-64 user and thought until now that I'd be getting more tracks if I get an Oxi-One but I guess not? Ideally I'd have 8 polyphonic tracks mapped to MIDI channels 1-8, and I rarely use drums at all so the monophonic multitrack mode's not that enticing for me.

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  Před 5 měsíci

      The way to think of the Oxi One is not in terms of tracks, but sequencers. You got 4 sequencers which can be monophonic, polyphonic, chord, etc. For example the chord sequencer allows you to place chords and create progressions polyphonically, and then harmonise the other sequencers to that one. Also the Matriceal sequencer is actually 4 mono tracks in one sequencer. Finally the multitrack sequencer is for more than drums; it now supports piano-roll *per track* which means it is actually 8 monophonic tracks of sequencer for one sequencer. As you can see it’s a much more flexible way of thinking about sequencing than just tracks

    • @SynthDad
      @SynthDad  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Ok let's break this down step-by-step. First of all what MIDI channel is each track on the Digitone configured to? For example, track 1 is MIDI channel 1, track 2 MIDI channel 2. Then what cable are you using between the Oxi One and Digitone? Do you have MIDI in enabled over DIN MIDI in the MIDI settings in the Digitone? Do you have MIDI out enabled in the config settings on the Oxi One? What channel have you set a sequencer to on the Oxi One? Go to that sequencer and go into keyboard mode and press a key - does the Digitone make a sound? Does it make a sound when you press a step key on the Digitone itself?
      Lots of steps you can do to debug this issue

      @@SvenFx-22 So the basic things to check are a) did you set the correct MIDI channels on the Oxi One to correspond to the Volca and b) are you sending the correct notes from the Oxi to the Volca to trigger the drums. Did you check what MIDI channel your Volca is on?
