    The fact Rocky puts cushcore from the factory really says something about them as a company. Most companies would save on the cost and weight, but they went for the best build.

    I purchased a 2023 C90 Altitude Power play used with 78 miles on it off Pink bike. It took me 4 months to get it sorted. Finally after three torque sensors it rides right as in delivering torque smoothly. My 4 amp charger died. It took Rocky mountain months to register my bike as their website registration process never worked. Nobody at RM could do anything about it for months. Finally a Traveling RM rep was in my area. It took him about 1 hours to figure out what was going wrong and fix it. The torque sensor output was low on the original sensor, the first replacement from my local dealer was also low. RM doesn't train their dealers so the well meaning techs are not armed with the information they need to deal with issues. Once sorted the bike is a beast although I do smack my pedals often. I think its my fault as I could time my pedals better. I also own a 2019 A70 thats been a great bike aside from the charging port that seems to rot. It's hard to replace because the motor needs to drop to get the new cable installed. Also the assist level control switch falls apart and needs to be replaced in a couple years. Otherwise that bike has been great. The experience with the A70 is why I bought the C90. It seems like RM builds a great bike but they are really thin on the back end. IF you have issues they fail to respond. My C90 from Pink bike was likely there because nobody could fix that bike in Utah. The original owner cut his losses and sold it. I had to persist and pretty much be a dick to the dealer to get service. Being retired I had nothing better to do then constantly beat the drum for attention. Eventually I got the bike fixed and a new 4amp charger too. Since I have the A70 and a carbon Yeti analog I always have something to ride. Don't go all Ebike if you can help it. Your peak output suffers on the analog bike so if you don't ride a regular bike at least half the time you will quickly lose that ability.At 66 half my riding buddies are analog and the half are ebikers. You really need both bikes if you want to continue to ride with all your friends.

    The Raceface cranks are definitely the achilles heel of this bike. The ride 4 in one of the higher positions helps but I've never had so many pedal strikes on a bike before. I immediately put 165mm Atlas cranks on it and actually am in the process of drilling and cutting some 175mm Atlas cranks down to 155mm. The RF Cinch interface with the Dyname clutch makes it impossible to use another brand of cranks. Still an amazing bike though!

    I own a 22 RM Instinct and have zero issues with the torque sensor. Simply take your foot off the gas while stopped, or drop your seat and rest your feet on the ground. I did have issues with the motor cutting out on rides and now make a point of doing a torque sensor calibration before each ride, which takes all of 45 seconds, and haven't had any issues since.
    The one negative I have is the low bottom bracket, which seems to be the norm on a lot of bikes. I have the same complaint with my Santa Cruz, as well as my old Intense. PS bike manufacturers, not everyone rides smooth flow trails. To compensate, I increased the fork's air shaft from 150mm from 160mm and use the highest ride height position, which raises the bike, yet keeps a slack head angle. That was a huge inexpensive mod. I also keep sag on the minimum side, which also helps. At some point I might go with shorter cranks as well, but that takes $$.
    The motor is a beast on steep climbs, but for me, ludicrous has too much power in highly technical rocky terrain, so typically use 45% or 70%. It does come in handy on fire roads or if riding to a trail.

    I was anti E bike. my main squeeze is an Ibis Ripmo carbon V2. I rode one of these at a Brown County Indiana ride day and loved it. My son bought one so I bought one. Shuan at N+1 bikes is a good friend of mine and a large bike dealer so I've ridden alot of different brands of these. Like this Rocky Mountain Altitude the best. Bikes a beast on tech rocky climbs and goes down killer as well and also jumps great.

    I had a Rocky Mtn Altitude 4.0 . It required a lot more rider energy than a Brose, Bosch or Yamaha to get the most out of it. The biggest drawback was the battery charging system overcharged the battery and the battery exploded and burned everything in my garage to ashes. Rocky Mountain seemed to want to help, but in the end they just wanted to get the burned bike out of my possession and pretend it never happened. I feel a duty to warn potential buyers of the very real danger of keeping a Rocky Mountain bike indoors. The damage to my home and property is over 350k, and I am lucky to be alive. Don't take the risk with a Rocky Mountain E-MTB. It is not worth it.

    Interesting you mentioned the rearward axle path/growing wheelbase, it's only 8mm total and 1mm more from squat. So I wouldn't classify it as such.

    1 month after receiving the Rocky Mountain altitude bike, riding it everyday. The charge plug cover keeps popping off, and then it ripped off. I had to tighten the cassette after a month of riding. Replacement parts seem to take forever to come in so I’m using tape over the port after every charge. The cable for the pointless air seat seized so I cut the cable, and removed it. Any replacement parts have to be bought from the dealer, and you can’t diagnose the system yourself, you have to pay the dealer too hook it up. Find a bike with more aftermarket support, with aftermarket replacement parts. Excellent drive system, but poor customer support, seems likes it’s all about the company making money, and not actually doing anything to bring costs down. this bike should last awhile, but My next bike might not be this brand, unless they smarten up.

    Great review as usual boys! You hit the nail on the head. Definitely would like shorter cranks but you do get use to it. Seeing as it has so much power, when you’re climbing you just need to give it that half pedal and it’ll shoot you over this obstacle. Also, that torque sensor thing is a a bit of a bummer but I’ve gotten accustomed to not putting so much weight on the pedal when I’m just sitting around and if it does show an error all you need to do is take your foot off for a second and it recalibrates instantaneously.
    Such an amazing bike though, and I love the control o get from that motor. I can go up right switch backs in ludicrous with perfect control. Now how many e-bikes can do that?👌🏾

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  Před rokem

      Neither of the 2 we've tested thus far have over heated, but it is a valid concern. Without knowing the conditions that caused over heating for RM owners (like were they climbing flow trails with gradual vert, did it happen on steep sustained climbs in ludicrous, etc), it's hard to say whether it's a deal breaker or not.
      As far as the Torque sensor warning, that's not much of a big deal, it's more of a nuisance but just be mindful that when you stop to regroup take both feet off the pedals to avoid the error.
