    Love how your tip is ‘don’t wear bright colours’ then at the end of the vid you strut out of the subway wearing a baller bright red jacket 😂

    One thing you can try with the "hip fire" method of Eren is zone focusing. If you have a camera on which you can manually focus, set your lens to something like f8 f11, then you set your focus plane so everything between i.e 2m and 10m is in focus and then you can shoot without relying on autofocus. Check your pictures and then deduce what could be the right holding angle.
    Another thing you can do is use your camera app.
    Strap your camera around your neck at chest level so it's flat (unless you have huge chest muscle like me 😂), then connect your camera app and hold your phone. Use the live view to discreetly shoot people, I mean take photos. No one will notice you, they'll think you're just watching your screen. You can do that with remote controllers, wired or wireless but you won't see the framing.
    Good luck spies.

    So I just followed those advices, I wore a transparent plastic coat like in Blade Runner, naked under of course, I was holding a big camera with a 500mm zoom at my waist level, walking confidently in crowded area.
    It didn't go well for me.

    That tip about keeping your camera ready at chest height is so good! I just tried it on a photowalk and it just went so much better! So simple, yet effective.

    Wide angle lensed are what I call “street sweeper” lenses. 24mm full frame equivalent is perfect for this. 50mm lenses and higher you have to aim and point at a subject. While you do have more distance with these sort of lenses, because you are aiming the camera it makes people feel more self conscious.

    This is a great video Eren, I'm getting more confident the more I go out. I find I go to London and people don't care but where I live in Reading people are far less used to seeing someone with a camera, so it's a lot harder.

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Mark! yh, even in non-central areas of London it can be harder as people aren't as used to seeing cameras. Longer range focal lengths work best in these areas

    Excellent tips. Starting to get back into street photography and it’s mainly taking images of people and getting confronted that puts me off it. Hopefully I see you around London when I’m out trying to get better.

    I agree with avoiding bright colours but it is quite annoying Sony decided to surround their FF lens mount with a bright orange colour. I don’t know how noticeable that is when I go out with my camera.

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  Před 2 lety

      I wouldn't worry about it too much, the coat etc you wear is the most important factor

    1. Pretend to film not shoot
    2. Hold camera high / Minimise movement
    3. Wear neutral colours
    4. Shoot from the hip / Use flip out screen to assist you
    Bonus tips
    1. Go to crowded areas
    2. Use longer focal lengths
    3. Be confident

    I find the question of morality interesting when it comes to people in vulnerable positions. Of course I wouldn't want that person to get exposed, however I think it could serve to shine a light on a cities less beautiful aspects. So maybe I'd change that tip to "take pictures of homeless people in a way in which the person isn't identifiable". Because they are as much a part of the city as trolley-ladies, and should therefore also be represented. But of course that's just my opinion

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  Před 2 lety +1

      you make a good point! There is a fine balance when documenting people in vulnerable positions.

    Also, I tried to get your presets, but I can only use paypal , and in my country its not available. If you can make it possible to use a regular credit card instead of only paypal then it could work!

    I’m confused about how to manage various autofocus and drive mode settings for street photography. Do you recommend zone focus? What about single or continuous autofocus? What about single shot or AI Servo mode? Does AI Servo only work in burst shooting mode?

    • @erenjam
      @erenjam  Před 2 lety +1

      So depending on the situation I switch between single and continuous, for most street stuff these days im on continuous. As for focus modes, when moving quickly, zone but if im being percise then single. I've not used canon yet so not sure on AI Servo
