Sorry/not sorry, but I'm not suffering through 700 pages to get to the interesting part of a book. That's 2-3 other books I could've read. I don't have that kind of time. So to me - focus on telling a good story from the start! I totally agree with you that a good story doesn't need to be grammatically perfect but look closely and try hard 😆 As far as military fantasy goes, it's got to be logical (especially to me as a military member).

As a fellow author, first of all instant subscribe, because 🎉 you're doing the thing!
But, I find myself more often than not learning what NOT to do reading other titles. I'm so bad with loving something and it suddenly not going the way I expected/wanted and immediately it kicks off the wheels turning wanting to write it the way I would have. 😅 Popular tropes: how can I invert that or use it in unexpected ways.

So so true!! Reading can be inspiring for so many reasons but that is so fun! Writing the ending you actually wanted to read just be so satisfying!

SJM seems to get worse with her plots going off on tangents now she has settled into her best selling era. Also, her male characters are either flat or abusive for a romance.
Forth Wing had a wee issue with lack of agency for Violet in my thinking. But each to their own when reading.
''When the Moon Hatched'' by Sarah A. Parker is a better story in my opinion for both worldbuilding and character development, and the first book in a new fantasy romance series. I think you would enjoy this one.
