    In January 1994 picked up trace rime ice once at 10,000 ft delivering an air craft from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Phoenix Arizona. Called center for immediate descent and broke out below the 8,000 ft ceiling with rain melting the 1/8” accumulation off the windscreen and a safe flight to the nearest airport. Forecast had been for chance moderate rime ice. Ice can start to accumulate quickly. Japan during instrument IMC training in March picked up trace ice 7 times between a 3,000 ft ceiling to 4,000 foot MEA during training flights. Each time asked for immediate descent to descend out of the clouds. Icing was not forecasted for all 7 flights. Aircraft flown were 172’s.

    What do you think of the new super hydrophobic coatings/ surface etchings that stop ice formation?

    I like the idea of your "Co-pilot" course. I am not able to participate in your cruse and wonder if any of the seminars conducted there will eventually be available as part of your on-line ground school?

    Hey Jason, I don’t see the link to sign up for the weather seminar in the information below this video!

    1 dislike? What a goober. Must be from someone not smart enough to be a pilot...
    Great content! Keep it up.

    Jason, thanks for the quality content! Do you guys do Part 141 training in the Los Angeles area, or have any recommendations out here? I'm working towards my Instrument and Commercial ratings!

      Hey Starner! At this time we do not have any Part 141 partners in Los Angeles but hope to change that soon! Best of luck in your training!

    Where did the term "rime ice" come from?

    • @johnopalko5223
      @johnopalko5223 Před 4 lety +4

      Middle English _rim(e)_ which itself came from Anglo-Saxon _hrim._
      The word "rime" means "hoarfrost." Rime ice, being white and granular, resembles hoarfrost.
      Aren't you glad you asked? 😁

    Does anyone else feel like more than half of this video was an advertisement for MzeroA? I think the content covered is important but this isn't super informative other than "Hey this is a thing."

    • @YourFriendlyGApilot
      @YourFriendlyGApilot Před 3 lety

      Well, the animation really bring it home in a wonderful way, so I think those are great to see for any pilot wanting to get a good grasp of icing. Is there almost 50% of advertising though, yeah felt that way, but hey the guy's gotta make a living too to make all this content. It sure does take a ton of time and effort and we get this for free, so no complaints here.
