- The Need for Speed franchise has had its fair shares of ups and downs over the years, but during the mid-2000s, it was perhaps at the peak of its powers. The racing series saw the release of a number of excellent instalments, many of which can legitimately be called some of the best racers of their era, if not of all time- and one in particular that holds a special place in the hearts of those who played it to this day is 2005's Most Wanted.
Developed by EA Black Box, the original Most Wanted captured the essence of the Need for Speed franchise better than almost any other game in the series has to date- but what exactly was it that made it so special? - Hry
I freaking LOVED this game. My favorite racer of all time. So good for all the reasons you highlighted. Now this is a remake I could get behind. Thanks for the memories here!
Best soundtrack in a racing game ever. Disturbed, static X, a7x, bullet for my Valentine, styles of beyond. This soundtrack encapsulated the early 2000s. My favourite nfs game of all time and I’ve been playing them all since hot pursuit 3 for windows 95

Happy i grew up on this,my fav part of this game besides the cops chasing me was dispatch were always describing your vehicle and other stuff people would think is minor nowadays but it made the game more engaging

I was a frosh in college when this games was released. Had an extreme fun time with this game resulting to some cutting of classes. One of my favorite PS2 games of all time. NFS MW was the last NFS game I enjoyed.
NFS most wanted was revolutionary in the series.
It was a mixture of the old need for speed and the new need for speed era at the time.
1. The return of sports cars, supercars, hypercarss from the 90s early 2000s NFS Era such as NFS 2, NFS Hot Pursuit 1998, High Stakes, Porsche Unleashed and NFS Hot Pursuit 2, and now with the introduction of Tuner cars and customization from Undergrounds, and the Open world mechanic featured in Underground 2. The return of police too as well.
It was revolutionary with the open world and police chases again that was last featured in Hot Pursuit 2.
I really miss the ps2 era and early 360/ps3 era these where the peak times for gaming imo.

@@Dadee3 I've been gaming since the super Nintendo era it just seems that people are more into that nostalgia era of gaming to the point that they no longer enjoy modern NFS titles or games in general.

I got this game as a gift for my 10th birthday from my cousin. He gave me a cracked version on a disc, and I played it pretty much every day till highschool. I got back into the game 2 yrs ago after seeing the mod support for the game. I still play this, best nfs game ever made
The music is what made it so special.
For me it was a really good game, but I also liked Carbon very much which did not receive the attention it deserves, for me one of the most underrated games of all time!😊
Need for Speed Carbon has a short story but a nice one, Nfs Most Wanted 2005 has a simple story which is so good with lots of other things

Its a game that was perfect n needs a remake but they shouldnt change anything just updated graphics
Been saying this since most wanted, they had a perfect game. All they needed to do was take the game play, put it in a new map, new cars, and keep that alive. I have no idea why they reversed course. It's just been so disappointing.

One of my favorites
It was the first true next gen game I played on 360. Something about that EA HD logo, the soundtrack. It had the grit, right amount of realism with a touch of cringe in the dialog. All making it the definitive NFS package imo.

That's what we call a Classic Game...... My favorite "Need for Speed: Most Wanted Black Edition (2005)" Best Racing Games of all time. I Love the main story, love the songs, some of the Blacklist was hard but managed to pass through, the Cops was going really hard if you reached Wave 4 or 5. But the game it was really amazing. It was truly a Masterpiece.👍👍👍
They should remake the 2005 and keep the cheesy cut scenes the cheese is needed. They can make it a 20th anniversary. Now that I think about it, it will be riddled with microtransactions for the cars and upgrades.... Never mind. The only thing I hated was being in a 2 hour police chase, meeting multiple milestones just to be in a cooldown reach 95% and then some random cop comes teleporting out of nowhere and bust me. just to loose all that.
Still play this game in 2023.
remaster with online element competing for best stats. online black list based on overall stats. competitive potential.
I'd say that what made the game great was the fact that actual thought and care went into the gameplay and story. Unlike today where all people care about are the graphics and that games can just be patched

I spent many hours playing this game. My only complaint about it was the rubber band mechanics.
Ik it's so fckng annoying and bad mechanic, nfs u2 doesn't have that and it's still challenging enough, such cheap mechanic to use in such amazing game
That is the only bad part of the game for me, and it was frustrating. I have beat this game 10-15 times since it released, and as I've gotten better I've had much less trouble with it.

2012 version lacked soul first time in my life I got bored playing a game
They took out some of the best qualities of the 2005 version which is why it sucked. There just wasn't any story behind why you were there. In the original you knew why you were there, in the remaster you didn't have a purpose for being there.

I'm still pissed that they put out that sorry excuse for a reboot. They already had the recipe for success. They just had to renew it and couldn't even do that right. So as it stands, the original Most Wanted is still my favorite out of the franchise.
NFS unbound kids think heat 5 is intense cause they smacked in the ass every 10 seconds.
Most Wanted kids will remember the fear of 12 Pontiacs on heat 3 and 4 beating your ass to a wall to the point you can't drive out of it
Sounds mixing needs some work. Voice-over is low in the mix while the gameplay blasts out the eardrums.

NFS Most Wanted (2005) is the best NFS game for me, I was eagerly waiting for it's sequel but got a reboot in 2012 instead which was nothing like the original in fact it's one of the worst NFS games in my opinion!

most wanted 2012 was not a good game in it's own right. They did nothing right with it. Even if it wasn't called most wanted it was a terrible game. The original most wanted was easily the best nfs game ever, and nothing has come close since. I haven't played all of them, but every nfs game I've played since most wanted was disappointing because I knew what a great nfs game was.
