  • The Moros are ethnolinguistic groups indigenous to Mindanao, Sulu and Palawan Islands. The Moros of Mindanao are concentrated along the shores of Moro Gulf, on the Cotabato River delta, and inland around Lake Lanao. Previously a derogatory term coined by the Spaniards to describe the natives of the Southern Philippine islands, Muslim Filipinos today proudly assert their Moro identity.
The documented internal migration of migrating Moros to Tagum from the different parts of Mindanao commenced as early as the 1920s until the late 1970s.
Various reasons compelled these patterns of movement of Moros in Mindanao. The need to avoid the growing conflicts and tensions and to engage in self-styled economic pursuits form part of the Moros’ search for greener pastures.
