- with David Hyman , Israeli professional tour guide. Join Shiri and myself as we visit one of the most famous Kibbutzim in Israel. Kibbutz Hanita became the model Kibbutz during Israel's historc perioud of Homa U Migdal ( Tower and Stockade). Between 1936 - 1939 over 50 Jewish settlements were built in this method. The idea was to prepare everything needed for a pop-up settlement in advance, and then reach the site and build everything needed overnight. All the settlements were built on land that was purchased by the JNF or other Jewish organizations. Hanita became the model because the land was isolated, remote and on a hill, and therefore needed extra preparations, skill and courage. Kibbutz Hanita is not very large, population in 2021 is under 1000 inhabitants. But the Kibbutz has so much to offer visitors and tourists. On the road up to the Kibbutz, turn right to the reconstruction site of the Tower and Stockade, It is possibe to climb the tower for great views of the area. Above the Kibbutz you can tour the "HaSulam hill" and observe beyond the Lebanese border. Try to find the entrance to the challenging Sulam (Ladder) cave that was used to hide weapons and fugitives during the resistance days. Withing the Kibbutz head to the museum www.hanita.co.il and visit the exhibits about the history of Hanita and the many Arceaological finds from the area. We had a great lunch at Hanuta shop owned by Nitzan and Orit Adan and Nitzan shared his vast knowledge and offered us many touring ideas. The mini zoo is always fun for kids and adults alike. We ended our tour at the Paradise nature reserve where we could see the amazing Phoenician caves with painted walls.
Thanks so much to Menachem Weiss and his family from Susya and Nahariyah who agreed to participate in the video. Menachem owns a winery at Susya village and we encourage you to go and visit. www.weisshalivniwine.com
