I really enjoy the A-6. It glides beautifully, and using it in conjunction with Touching Cloud's Kinetic Assistant make for some awesome Carrier Activity.

You are correct. There are no fighter jets that I know of with a side by side cockpit configuration. This plane was not a fighter. It was an all weather attack aircraft primarily a bomber though it could also to anti sam site missions and air to air refueling as a tanker.

The only semi-modern "fighter like" aircraft that I know of is the f-111 (It was also a strike aircraft like the a-6 even if it operated differently).
Fun fact... its ejection system, ejected the whole cockpit not just the seats :)

It's not a fighter, it's a bomber. A6, the A stands for Attack.

Well... it is not really a simple bomber either, it is an attacker.
The letters in the name tell you what kind of roles the aircraft performs:
Bomber -> B ->B-1/B-2/B-52...
Attacker -> A ->A-6/A-7/A-10...
Fighters -> F F-16/F-22/F-35...
Transport -> C -> C-130/C-5/C-17
Trainer -> T -> T-38/ T-7
Experimental -> X-1 all the way to X-66
There are some multi-role aircraft like the F/A-18 for example that can be considered both a fighter and an atacker.
Tanker aircraft -> K -> KC-10 / KC-135
Eletronic warfare aircraft -> E -> EC-130H / EA-6B / EA-18G
And so on...
there are a few exeptions that do not follow this naming convention... but generally, this is it
@@StevesSimStation The A6 was usually used in a precision ground atack role. It was not designed as a fighter. It did have air-to-air cappabilities, however...those were used in a defensive role rather than offensive.
