I am a 77 year old black mother grandmother with a college degree. I have an observation! Everybody is not middle class or even close. There are many of us in shelters, living under a tree,working minimum wage jobs that cannot get ahead. If it's not just Politics as Usual I believe Vice President Harris should go to shelters and nursing homes ghettos and places off the Beaten Track because people are hurting. Many of them either are registered or would get registered and vote for her but if it looks like you're only catering to those that have then this is a block of voters that will be lost. Just like Governor Walz could speak more to the rural poor and visit those areas. This would give people a lot more hope.

Here is the exact quote, which she made in late 1972 during a speech to the Modern Language Association, not long before Nixon's second inauguration and just before Watergate and related scandals would blow up, leading to the end of Nixon's presidency:

Wolcott points out further that given all we know about the crimes in which Nixon and his minions were soon implicated, perhaps Kael and those who thought like her were in the right after all. To my mind, there is no "perhaps" about it. In any case, PAULINE KAEL NEVER SAID THOSE WORDS. She wasn't the out-of-touch jerkass portrayed in this phone urban legend. There may be much to criticize about Kael, her cinematic judgment, etc., but for God's sake, the woman's been dead 23 years; let's put to rest these slanders about her already!
