  • In this video I build the Yamaha HS1 90cc twin crankshaft. I check run out, axial play, and crankshaft width. Both of the single cylinder crankshafts are built, then the two are pressed together and checked for runout.

    Another crankshaft rebuilt and trued to perfection. Your attention to detail is second to none!

      Yeah, I have just got a list of Yamaha dealers I'm calling. Seems none of the ones I have called are hooked up to Lite Speed. I guess it is pretty expensive, so probably only the biggest dealers have it. You are right it takes a lot of time. But I did find one piston so far.

    Great job Dale. I was doing a crank today too, but it was a clonky old Bantam, not a precision piece of kit like yours! You got that one trued to a hair's breadth.

      Wow, I guess we do have some kind of karma going there Dean. Clonky....no, I don't think so, they all need to be done precisely. I did have to wrestle this one some, not the easiest one I've ever done.

    Another excellent vid. Would be great to see old video of how those same cranks were mass built on the line at the plant 50 some years ago.
    BTW.....you're really rubbing it in saying you should shut the door and turn the heat ON, while some us are sweltering in 110 degree muggy California. You're livin right Dale.

    Good morning Dale. I've been following your lead on a TS400 engine. So far it's coming together pretty good. Hopefully I haven't messed anything up. The TM125 and RM370 are done.

      There are shops within a few miles where I can get parts and get engine work done. That salvage yard up in Phoenix is a 2 1/2 hour drive one way, so I put together a fairly large list of used parts to find before I go there.

    • @montana2strokeracer

    Ref the crank over all length, -.05 -.1 what it actually means is 42.95mm to 42.9mm.

      Nice that makes sense, there are a lot of discrepancies in these old books, just thought it was another one of them. My big crank chart has never let me down, it's my go to. Thanks for making sense of it for me.

    Rich

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  Před měsícem +1

      Hey Rich, why yes, I do, I have a very inquisitive mine and I want to know stuff like that and make a record of the info. Most folks don't care about that kind of thing. I take lots of measurements that you really don't need to do. The answer to your question is they consistently run .002 interference fit, the crankshaft flyweights run .708 and the pins a consistent .710. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.
