    The biggest point missed out here is that the surface dock is a powered dock, not just a dock dongle.

    i have a surface pro 7 and im about to about to buy one of these. Ive been trying to avoid it because of the price however all the other cheaper docks i have tried either do not work properly or they break down pretty quickly. I think its worth the price to know that this thing will work as intended. I do appreciate the build quality of Microsoft's surface hardware and im hoping this is no different. Im pretty rough with my surface, including the charger, keyboard, and pen and they have never given me any issues at all. I use them for work and i can always count on them to get the job done. i dont mind paying extra for that peace of mind. Thank you for the video. The information you provided cleared some things up for me.

    The reason why it's surface port vs type c is it is partially designed for surface upto surface 7 which doesnt have USB C. In my situation with a surface 6, I now have 4 usb C, fantastic and about time!

    can you use this dock and surface when the surface is closed? basically make it a desktop when at the office? I want to use larger monitors without having to use the smaller surface screen. Want to just plug it in and shut it and set it to the side and use the monitors.
    Is this possible?

    My logic says your "front" is the back in fact ! Why would you connect screens and even worse, ethernet, up front ?

    • @gregoryhoward7594
      @gregoryhoward7594 Před 3 lety

      Agreed! I would put those on the back and leave the front open to items I would switch in and out like phones being charged or drives.
      Now one idea... just an idea/excuse... is maybe people tend to forget to disconnect those connections and they just snatch the dock when in a hurry. 🤷🏾

  • @dylanchadderton1
    @dylanchadderton1 Před 3 lety

    How is "not compatible" with surface pro 4 and book 1? They both have surface connect, so im just wondering how that works. Will it not just work? Or will it work but is not "officially supported" My problem here is that i have a Surface Pro 5 and Book 1. So do i buy the dock 2 or just stick with the dock 1? I mean the dock 1 says it only supports Pro 3, pro 4 and book 1 but it works fine with the Pro 5. I just want the usb c ports really.

  • @trippmusclecub387
    @trippmusclecub387 Před 4 lety +1

    I don't own a Surface device myself but regardless, I'm just wondering: given all the tech you have at home, do you personally think it's worthwhile to get one;
    At what point would it make sense to get one? And lastly, what electronics that one would generally have at home render the Surrface dock rather pointless?

    • @technogi5222
      @technogi5222  Před 4 lety +4

      This dock is for very specific people. Basically if you have a new surface and want to push two 4k displays at 60hz. If that's not your goal there are cheaper options but at the end of the day it is a quality dock with fast ports. So yes I would recommend if you have a newer model surface.

    • @rutvagurjar8741
      @rutvagurjar8741 Před 4 lety +1

      The Dock 2 does not support 4K @ 60 Hz for the SP6. If you're just looking to connect directly to a monitor from the SP6, I strongly recommend just picking up a cable that you can leave plugged into your monitor. If you're looking for docking capability, I recommend looking for the original Surface Dock.

  • @kgotter

    I think the reason it’s so expensive is that it can drive two 4K at 60 hertz. It’s hard to find something that can do that under 200-250

    • @technogi5222
      @technogi5222  Před 4 lety

      That sounds like it could be an issue with the dock. All I can think is make sure you have all the driver updates and try swapping the USB C adapters and see if you have a bad one. Next step is email Microsoft.

    What cables do you recommend to connect my 34" curved dell and my 27 Asus? I just bought the Surface Book 3 with the new Dock 2 and am replacing my Surface Book 2 with the original Dock. I was connecting DP to mini-DP on both the Dell and Asus. Obviously the new Dock 2 has only USB-C's. Should I get the DP to USB-C or the HDMI 2.0 to USB-C?

    • @technogi5222
      @technogi5222  Před 4 lety

      I am far from a cable expert. I do not want to steer you wrong but I would go with the DP cables to USB C over the HDMI.

    • @jackhopkins
      @jackhopkins Před 4 lety

      @@technogi5222 Thanks for your input. It seems there is a footrace between who is best DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.1. I understand the main difference is that if you want to string more than two monitors, DP is the best way to go, as you can string series with them. I went ahead and ordered the HDMI earlier today, but will let you know if this doesn't work.

  • @dentboxhero1717
    @dentboxhero1717 Před 3 lety +1

    I don't really see the proprietary connector as a con as they are specifically made for what you bought for in the first place... a Surface device. Now if they would have mad it a type C dock then it's useless to Surface owners.
