I haven’t figured out that whole “eat when I’m hungry and stop when I’m full” business yet
Problem is you have to eat so frequently, there are times you’re just chewing and drinking water, repeat til food gone lol.
Cause it's a myth lol
Yeah, my genetic hand of cards is an obesogenic phenotype, so I am always hungry and really almost never feeling full (I've eaten 8-12 fully loaded plates of food at a buffet, it's a disorder), that took me to about 125kg body mass (185cm tall man) and then I've cut down to around 80kg several times now and I only am even more insatiable now lol
That's called Eating disorder 😅
@@thor498how do I get over it
Hi Dr. Mike from Vancouver B.C. This is my first public comment ever, but I hope you get this message. I want to send you a heart felt thank you for the information you provide me everyday. You've provided me with humour and education towards my fitness goals. In 2022 I survived brain surgery and came out of it perfectly. My body took care of me when I needed it to. Fast forward to last summer I got tagged in a picture on FB on the beach. I was 244 lbs at 6' 1" and looked awful. I actually told my buddy to take the photo down. What pissed me off is that photo represented the health problems I went through, and I failed to take responsibility. I now get up at 4:30 am every morning before work and train like my life depends on it. Some mornings when I lay there thinking it's too fucking early, I look at that photo, get pissed off, and jump out of bed. I'm now 230lbs and stronger than ever thanks to your advice. I'm 9 weeks into my weight training routine and I feel great. Your approach to overall health has made a huge difference in my life. Thank you so much Mike.
Dude this is amazing. Well done! Dr. Mike deserves plenty of kudos for the raft of free info he’s put out, but YOU are the one making this happen. Great job, man!
Thank you, this is the type of community I want to be a part of. For me it's all about overall good health. I've really come to enjoy weight lifting a lot. I finally have my diet dialed in thanks to Mike's advice. I find my diet is a hell of a lot harder than just lifting.
Thanks Will, I appreciate it.
I guess it's human to always find reasons not to do our work, workouts etc. We have it always the hardest while other people have it way easier..
Then I read comments like yours and get reminded that I don't have it all that bad and I am just lazy right now.
Thanks for motivating me and keep up the great work! I wish you the very best, I will try mine
Thank you Sebastian. I'm glad my message resonated with you, I hope you find what you're looking for.
What helps me not eat at night is to brush my teeth early so i dont get the urge to grab something to eat even if im a bit hungry
Especially oranges !
I do that too. Remember to eat your edibles before you brush!
good advice. tank you
Greek yogurt and frozen berries saved me during many cuts
Greek Yogurt and Blue berries for me(2 or 3 af a time).
Started eating more berries recently and it's been saving me. Much less cravings for sweet things now.
Going to try this
Replace the high fat Greek yogurt with Skyr and you got even more protein and less fat
My favorite super healthy meal when I’m craving something sweet at night is skyr or non fat plain greek yoghurt with a scoop of protein powder (mix it in very well) and frozen berries. The frozen berries make it basically frozen yoghurt and it has like 300 cals and 50g of protein.
"I don't care if I'm losing. I'm still competing." That is a great message and really makes sense.
I got down to 8% once. body looked great but my face looked like I was dying of cancer. seems 14% is a balance point for my genetics. best of luck on your journey because the destination is just a place to visit once in a while.
Agreed. I decided I'd rather just build more muscle so I can look great at a higher bf% 12-14% seems to be my sweet spot.
@@gearheart3721 100% I think body builders look best 4-6 weeks after the show when they've put on some fat. Look much fuller and healthier- likely in that 10-15% BF range at that point.
96/4 beef, 99/1 turkey and 99/1 chicken are all really close in calories and swapping between them helps make it not so boring. Hot sauce is your friend. Most hot sauces are no/low calorie and there's hundreds of different ones out there to try.
96 percent ground beef is a Godsend discovery for a lean bulking bro like myself.
@@JohnDoa1980 I really don't change the quantity of what i eat for meals very much. I use higher/lower fat content meats and dairy to adjust the calories. I add in some mid day snacks if i need more calories.
You got to check out G Hughes low calorie sauces
Salsa is pretty damn low in calories too and goes great on eggs.
Nothing wrong w high fat. Try gettin more in meals rather than carbs and you will eat way more without addin a pound
Dr. Mike dropping this at what'll be a week or two into the cut he recommends in his video about when to bulk and cut through a year is genius.
As it is written
He recommended (jRm_NKO2AAE) March, April, May for cutting.
With a little bit of flexibility on the dates, I am 2 weeks in. Cutting through June or so based on his adaptive "keep going while you are seeing progress and don't hate life"
@@TelamonAjaxdamn did we all just coincidentally start cutting at the start of April
Heh....I started my cut in mid-March.
It’s so much easier said than done. But, brothers, if you put your mind to it and prioritize the shred, it WILL happen. Reaping the long term rewards over short term dopamine effects is a feeling like no other. We’re all gonna make it!
Or just cheat and take drugs
And sisters.....
No, we aren't all going to make it. I guarantee I diet and train harder than most people but at 39 years old, my body *will not* , and I repeat - *will not* - lose any more body fat than its current set point. I've eaten the exact same quantity and quality of food for four years straight with no sugar or junk food. I burn close to a thousand calories per workout using a 30 kg weighted vest for 4.5 miles of fast paced rucking. It doesn't make a goddamn bit of difference. If you have the genes to get shredded, cool, good for you, but stop shilling this stupid chirpy naive optimistic survivorship bias, IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK FOR EVERYONE.
@@alexdenton9176so you think if you starved to death you'd die with the exact same body fat you have now?
@@LukeBrownSM You think a strawman argument about malnourishment is a valid rebuttal to extolling a hard limit on a voluntary aesthetic pursuit by a normative range caloric deficit?
It is such a mind game for me - constantly questioning what i'm doing, why bother, have I tracked things close enough, am I doing it right, you look exactly the same - so why continue?
Fighting through that inner self who seems to want to keep you down.
Love the point about radical acceptance and abandoning hope. It is indeed a hard place to get to, but once you get there, you are free! Works in this context and so many others. Thanks Dr. Mike, I needed some inspiration on my current cut. This was serendipitously timed.
Not thinking about "when is it over?", accepting my fate is what made me quit smoking. That's some great advice.
#1 is why I started intermittent fasting and lost 15kg of mostly fat since September, and the "this is my life now" advice for #9 is how I quit smoking cold turkey a year ago. Good shit.
nice work.
@@attananightshadow Thanks bud, appreciate it.
Nice
Quit smoking is haaaaaard
the timing on this vid couldn’t have been better, ty!
I desperately needed this right now.
my biggest problem is definitely not being patient enough. i'll be doing everything right and then just stop.
What helped me with this is figuring out what my actual goal is. Before it was drop 5, 10, 15 or even 20 kg asap. And I got impatient after two days of the scale not dropping. Now my goal is to be as strong and healthy as possible when I'm 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 or even 80 years old. 8 week mesos fly by without even focusing on my weight, but it still drops.
Perspective is everything in life. When you have 50+ pounds to lose you need to look at it in a period of a 8-12 months not weeks. Your body needs a week or two to actually start losing the weight but it requires discipline
lets say you get a revenue stream that gives you 100.000 a month after taxes....it will take you still 10 month to become a millionaire.
you dont stop it because you didnt become a millionaire straight away.
stupid analogy, but anyway.
@@notyourdamnbusiness8795that's not how psychology works
this is probably the most motivating video i watched from this channel in months, thank you a lot, team!!!
I really glad to see guys like Mike and Johnny get so many subscribers. Everyone looking for health and fitness advice need more people like them.
Needed this. Gotta get to the abandoned all hope phase. Been feeling pretty number 7 after going 7-10 good days and not seeing much change on the scale. Trust the system
Thank you Dr. Mike, i‘m six weeks into my diet and i‘ve never been this consistent before. You‘re videos have been so helpful 🙏🏼
Currently 9 days out from my 1st classic physique show and I’ve been using all your tips for guidance. Thanks for the videos, Dr. Jerusalem!
Super helpful for me right now. Thanks, Dr. Mike!
Fantastic video! Love the Andor reference
Perfect timing Doc!
Andor is GOATed, Dr. Mike is truly enlightened
Kind of went a little off with the soccer/football analogy later on though
Appreciate your videos and the core message you deliver. I've watched about 4 so far. The humor and pop-culture is great at sending a message, versus just reading off data like a monotone robot. Helping me stay on track and finally shake this last ~20 lbs.
The advice here is gold. Great video. This video is saved to my watch later list for future reference.
Needed this video. Thanks Doc!
god damn, got nailed on point one! currently on a cut and I was always hungry even when bulking! at least the numbers are going in the right direction!
I love the motivation you are transmitting
I’ve been watching for a long while. This is one of the best videos you all have done.
I needed this today!
Get them Jenni
Sigh.... watching this as I eat a 600 calorie blueberry muffin 😥
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This is pure gold Dr Israetel. I've watched almost all if your content and I've learnt all I know from you and I've laughed a TON.
But today you reached into my very soul.
Thank you 🙏
Mike cracks me up with his deadpan humor, oh yea, and I learn something about diet and fitness along the way. That's a win to me. Cheers Mike!
Didn't want potato chips till you talked about potato chips. Thanks.
You drop this 👑
Need part 2 for sure
I’ve been watching Dr. Mike’s video for months and this channel has tons of great advice. Time for me to subscribe now. 👍💪🇺🇸
Fantastic video, Doc. Thank you!
So nobody’s going to mention the Mfs hair turning up for 1 video then leaving again… Mike is superhuman.
😂😂😂
17:00 is a minute of absolute gold
First 10 seconds and I already learned everything I need to know. You're the best Mike!
Perfect timing!
6-8 are definitely my achilles heel.
Same here. But I started taking my blood sugars in the AM fasted. When I ate any carbs before bed, I woke up 115 or higher. If I eat some chicken breast and some almonds, my blood sugar never goes over 85.
7 to 10 at night for me, I always save my last meal for about 8:30pm , even 9 if I can then I'm good...well good enough I don't need to harness 100% will power only 30 to 40%
@@quentonnankivell956 Same, I time my last meal for 8-9 and if I’m craving bad, I force myself upstairs into bed. Same deal, only need 30% willpower at that point lol.
i needed this video to come out literally today
i needed it yesterday ;(
Of the closet?
Thanks Dr Mike. Always look forward to spending time watching RP videos to learn. About 1.5 months into dieting. Down about 15 lbs and just started lifting 2 weeks ago. Haven’t been in a gym in years and the weight was demoralizing. Now I’m seeing muscle gains and my physique has improved in just a short time. It’s easy to stay motivated when you see progress. Best thing I did was invest in myself and buy home gym equipment. Power rack, adjustable bench, decent barbell and some budget bumper plates. Gonna continue adding to my gym and keep pressing forward.
Amazing and helpful video as always
Would love to hear thoughts on ordering food and social eating!
1st line of defense: don’t even buy that unhealthy stuff!
Video came just in time for me to watch while doing my bulk meal prep. Good shit
The analogies were on point today 💯 Thanks Dr. Mike
@TopGravityTransformationwhats Up with you
For the more advanced dieter, I came across a problem where I couldnt drop calories because I would go hypoglycemic, but if I went up, I wouldn’t lose weight! Infuriating, and what I did was lower minutes of exercise and lower intensity, to moderate numbers, and be sure to get some carbs in before bed to be sure I get adequate sleep, and boom back on track
Getting shredded keeping you big as hell
Awesome video!!!
Great info 💪🏽
Perfect timing. I need to get my s*** together
Is it the cookies? It's probably all the cookies...
Not the cookies!! 😭
I know it's a joke but you know you can get shredded even if you eat ONLY cookies during your day ? Just a matter of caloric deficit.
@@AD-sg9tr 🤓 ☝️
@@AD-sg9tr I remember the Abs and Ice Cream guy a few years ago who lost like 30lbs on Ice Cream in 3 months. Man that must be so brutal lol
I've made quite a few of these mistakes over the years. It's good to have them in a helpful video but any new viewers need to listen to the podcast. There's some absolute gold on there.
Thank you. I'm half way through a cut and the struggle is real.
Buying Lambo's keeping you big as hell!
Needed this one, thanks Dr. Mike. One corollary of #1 and #9 that's worked for me repeatedly - if I get really hungry, I "listen to my body" but still restrict the types of foods I can consume to satisfy the hunger. I don't worry as much about the extra calories, but instead stick to the foods that will keep me satisfied, like protein and veggies. This helps steer me back in track.
Good advice, subbed.
Thank you for this. ❤️
You are awesome. I wish I knew about this amazing channel before
Dr.Mike thanks for this video I just got the RP diet app. This is my first week and it's been amazing 👏 so I appreciate all these tips. Iv been on the chicken and rice this week but next week is pasta and ground beef all that good stuff.
This is helpful. Thanks.
I needed this 💯
Excellent advice -- thank you!!
Another banger. You never miss with analogies Dr Mike
Great advice, and I don't care what anyone else says, you're analogies are golden, and these are peak analogies right here!
I love you Dr Mike + your content + your humor
really needed this video, sometimes we quit right before we are there and we don't even know it.
Gonna try 1 and 5.
Thanks Doc
This is such good advice that I didn’t hear anywhere els. Yes make your diet foods less tasty or else you’ll want more. I also get hungrier after eating. Such good advice thank you
Thanks for this video. You have transformed my training and now the last frontier is diet.
years of fasting got me very in tune with the difference between hunger and cravings and that makes dieting not all that complicated for me these days
I have a harder time with the mass accumulation phase and have to resort to junk food, but I remember Dr. Mike says it is okay as I am slamming full bags of chips and family pack Sour Patch Kids on weeknights. Thanks Dr. Mike!
Point 9 & 10 are bang on point!
You are always so fing helpful, thank you
I've been cutting for 2 weeks now and it's been hard cus I generally have like 0 self control. This is exactly what I needed, Mike. Thanks.
The cut gets easier everytime you do it again, stick to it brother 💪
18 days in on this 6 week TIA cut to prepare for Memorial Day Pool Weekend and your video could not have come at a better time as I've been feeling stuck in a rut. #2, #9, and especially #10 hit home. Thank you and I'm even more motivated to Stay the Course.
FUUUUCK I really needed this tonight I've been killing it losing about 4 lbs a week but suddenly this week I went up 3 and was just so fkn done I've been pissed all day debating just pigging out but I'm listening to this on the stairmaster and just did an extra 10 min because #6 was exactly it so THANK YOU SO MUCH seriously you have no clue what a pissed off day it's been!!
Learning to enjoy the feeling of an empty tummy and associat that with good feeling helps alot
Being on a the tail end of a cutting phase is a real character builder. I've learned to not be picky about food when I was getting the last %s off. I remember saving the brown rice for last in my meals since those carbs tasted so amazing.
Yeah shit gets tough, especially when the weightloss slows right down
Freaking superb video
This is a great video to put dieting in perspective, sending to a couple people to help them
Does RP have a merch shop for clothes 'n stuff? would love a t-shirt or something from them. Love the content! 🔥
Thanks Dr. Mike💪🏾
@TopGravityTransformationlol
This comforts me like a warm blanket. I don't quite have these issues yet, but at week 10 right now, the brain "F*$K it" signal Mike's talking about is starting to bleep a lot, so this is very real. This video is like putting a swiss army knife of strategy in my back pocket for when that signal gets close to blaring through the logic barrier.
You're the greatest Dr in the world when it comes to weight loss...Great video!!!
Awesome thank you 🐺🤍💪
Hey Dr. Mike, first off, holy shit I really enjoy your channel. The informational insights are spectacular and the comedic antidotes are sophomoric and top notch. I love it! I have a question. I’m 45 and have been a lazy bastard until now and have been getting it to becoming more fit. What is a good way to prioritize my diet and hypertrophic exercise if my schedule works on a swing? I.e. I work nights W-Sat and sleep a normal schedule from Sunday-tue. Thank you
litrally the best video about weight loss and diet ever on YT
Good talk
Catching this video after I completed my 8 week fat loss through the RP diet app. The push through that Dr. Mike described is 💯% accurate. I got mad and was ready to quit, but I looked at my errors and fixed them. From there the shedding began! During travel, the food scale was helpful.
I absolutely love Mike’s non-scientific analogies! Yeah they just repeat what he already explained correctly but they are just so entertaining!!
Wise info! Lovin' it.
Even better advice for the average lifter versus the cutter in comp. The cutter should already have this type of discipline.
The spice advice also can be enhanced by simply utubin or researching cool ways to cook classic meals.
Your videos are hilarious! Nice 👍🏼
This video came at the perfect time
Not dieting right now but I know how it is. This vid is gold. Will come back to it when I’m cutting next time.
The timing of this video is so perfect. Started the cut around the middle of March, right now it's tough as fuck to stick to it. Even doing it slow, aiming for 1 to 2 pounds a week (started at 215 post-bulk), and getting past 205 is killing me. The muscle is there but my lifestyle and food intake is sabotaging the summer bod.
Gonna try to switch up the food variety and eat later.
