  • My new Super Max 16-32 drum sander already having issues. Over all I love this thing and it came dead even on the drum and sands my rings perfectly flat but the conveyor belt slowly rides to the motor side. I have a call in to Laguna and they should help fix this issue that is why I am posting this so the tech can see it. Hello Rod S. thanks for stopping by, I need sponsors and cyclone dust collection just saying :)

    You must gradually tighten the screw on the motor side until the belt remains centred.

  • @floridabeardedwoodworker

    UPDATE: I called Woodcraft and I think they put pressure on Laguna & they are sending me a new belt free and they said that I was doing everything right but as the belt stretches (first two weeks) I really have to keep my eye on it once it stretches out then it stays on track, This would be very good information for the instruction manual as it seems you set it once and done but that is not the case. SO GOOD SAVE LAGUNA (woodcraft really saved ya.) YOU WON ME BACK I will be getting a band-saw from them for sure. Thanks again

    You're lucky. My drive belt drifts over to the motor side much more quickly. No amount of adjusting or replacing conveyor belt has fixed it. At least yours is useable.

    • @floridabeardedwoodworker
      @floridabeardedwoodworker  Před 8 měsíci +1

      They drift like crazy until they stretch out, you have to loosen everything and move the belt back over and readjust this sucks but the belt will stretch out and settle down.

      @@floridabeardedwoodworker Well, mine is actually the Performax 16-32, the white one, that was eventually bought out by Jet, I think. I've had it well over 15 years. When it was new there was no break in period for the conveyor belt at all. It needed adjustment from time to time, but for the most part, it tracked true/centered for a long time. Eventually, the conveyor belt came apart at the seam, and that's when the trouble started. The new belt would not track straight. I tried every possible fix, including another new belt, turning belt around, running it real loose, none of that solved it. So, it has been in storage for years now. I just bought yet another new conveyor belt and will be trying it again. When it works, it's an excellent tool. I used it mostly for sanding end-grain cutting boards. it's perfect for that. Maybe this new belt will eventually track straight after stretching out. We will see!

    Eyeing the same tightness on both side, mine drift to the left. It drift to the left so bad I followed the manual tighten the left bolt to the point I think it's way too tight then I loosen it a little bit. I left the left bolt alone and adjusting the right bolt. It seems the unit I got, in order for the belt to track dead center for 10 minutes, my right bolt has to be really loose, so loose I can see the right side of the belt wave up a little.

    Mine is about at the 2 week timeframe and I;m going to keep an eye on this. So far, so good, though.
    Update: My tracking is still fine, but I ran i to the clicking sound issue that seems to be fairly common;y reported with these. All I had to do was loosen the set screws on the motor shaft coupler and spin it a couple of times, then tighten them back up. It’s actually a common issue with shaft couplers. They sometimes need to be loosened and retightened as they break in. It happens with my CNC shaft couplers occasionally. Overall, I’m really happy with the machine. Anyone should plan on checking things as the unit breaks in, such as the table leveling etc.

    I just got my new Supermax 2550 yesterday, so this is really useful information. I'm going to keep an eye on the belt tracking. I adjusted it yesterday as I was setting the machine up, and ran the conveyor for 20 minutes. It is perfect. But the first couple of weeks is crucial. If you don't take care to keep it on track, the belt will tend to stretch wrong, and get a "memory" of the off-tracking, and then it'll be a pain in the patootey for the rest of its life. Like any new machine, you have to wear it in a little and keep making adjustments until it's performing at 100%.

    Thanks for the great Video! The tracking on my 19/38 Supermax has always been an issue. The biggest challenge I have now is the feed roller. The knurled roller is too smooth and it does not grip the drive belt. If I am sanding something wide it works as it should, however sanding narrow pieces or segmented rings the drive belt just stops because the feel roller is too smooth and does not grab the belt as it should. I have cleaned it and brushed it with steel brush, yet the high dollar drive belt from Laguna just slips. Overall I like the sander, but I spend more time adjusting then I do sanding! I would not recommend this sander.

    @ricktanguay2310 Před rokem +1

    Hi Florida, hopefully you fixed your tracking by now, but if you didn't, you loosen the side of the belt that you want the belt to move to. Try it and I think you will be fine. If for some reason that doesn't work, reverse the belt by taking off the machine and replacing it backwards. Then loosen the side of the belt that you want it to track to. Also, I don't know if your dust collector was turned on during the video, but if it was, get rid of the reducer on the top of your sander and enlarge it.

    I have the same issue with my 16/32. I ruined the factory belt trying to get it adjusted, their replacement belt is $ 80.00 plus shipping. I found a company, Maverick Abrasive, that sell this belt for $ 27.00, they only sell them as 2 belts/unit. Even with shipping my order cost $66.00. I installed one today, same issue with tracking. I had a Jet 16/32 for 4 years, never had a problem with tracking. Enough said!

    • @travispaulson9550
      @travispaulson9550 Před 2 lety +1

      That lever is for tilting the bed slightly while running a slab that is wider than the drum. Upright when your slab is narrower than the drum. This eliminates the markings that the end of the drum would make if it were touching the wood. I'm also having problems with the belt staying in track.

    I've had my 1632 for three years now and I'm experiencing the same problem. I bought the official SuperMax belt $108 delivered because I was told other belts simply will not work. This belt is doing just what the others did - it slowly drifts outboard until you have to shut the machine off or ruin a belt. I've been adjusting for two days - measuring with digital calipers first - then 1/4 turns at a time as the manual says. The machine is dead clean and dry lubricated. The bearings are quiet and don't show any wear. Hmmmmmmmm... I need this thing to work too. It's a great tool when it works. Anyone that has a solution out there - I'm all ears. Email and phone messages in to Laguna and SuperMax ... we'll see.

      @@floridabeardedwoodworker Thanks for the video and the update! Not sure I got the solution though: should we stretch it and wait one or two weeks before using it?
