Very well done. Best machine set-up instructional video I've seen on CZcams.
Here’s a suggestion/ tip/ trick I use when zeroing out my wixey height gauge (@13:15). Turn the conveyor belt on slow speed and crank down the drum head until you see the shaft begin to turn near the motor housing, then just slowly raise it again until it stops turning. It’s a perfect zero and you don’t need to bend down or even open the cover!

Typical - found your awesome videos AFTER setting this up! I was wondering about the red catch on the front, glad you covered that so I now know how it works. The little grub screws on the feed tables were also confusing. Thanks so much for doing these!

Great video. Should have watched it before I set up my machine! Thanks for the heads-up on the tensioning tool. Minor issue; an Allen Key is the tool that you use (male), and the screw that it fits is either a grub screw, designed to recess wholly within the threaded hole, with the female hex socket in one end, or a cap screw, with a head, which contains the hex socket. The “business end” of each of these (the bearing surface) is at opposite ends.
Great video!!! I just wished I found it two weeks ago. I have the SuperMax 1938. The tension tool was driving me nuts! Thanks to you I now know how to use it. With respect to the in/out feed tables, I may have done something wrong but I discovered that it was necessary to find the balance between the adjustments of the 8mm and 3mm screws. If I tighten the 8mm too much it would raise my table. I noticed that you were able to tighten the 8mm screws as much as you desired.

Small movements on the belt tensioners and let it run for a while. I find a am making fine adjustments during a production run so I have a feeling that the tension applied by the stock also has a bearing on it.
In terms of the tables, try pushing the 3mm all the way in so the table is high, then tighten the 8mm.
Then loosen the 3mm to lower the table, then tighten the 8mm, loosen the 3mm then tighten the 8mm etc. That should get you close.
I have now set the outfeed table so it is ever so slightly lower than the bed. It gives me a better result.

Great video again Andy.... So pleased you gave an in-depth of fitting the tables, iI need to adjust mine and use those little grub screws...doooh. Oh and i could not get used to the direction of the up and down handle either ...anto for dow and clockwise for up.. I think i will calibrate mine again just to make sure all is good, but my last end grain board ended up at 34mm thick all over so it must still be close to perfect. Btw my gauge is a Wixey.

Thank you for the feedback, yes they are a pain.
I have actually lowered the outfeed table a little as I found it can jam the stock as it came through - this gave small troughs in the finish.
So setting the outfeed a little lower than the belt works like a dream. I think it’s because the belt has a little bit of compression.
I also get the direction of the handle wrong - until I realised it has a positive and negative on it. Negative take stock off, but may still draw a big arrow on it.
I think I will check calibration as part of my monthly shop maintenance schedule. I find regular fine adjustments to keep things tuned is a lot easier than leaving it until things go wrong.

As usual great instructional vid 👍🏻. Setting the loadings becomes easier after few attempts, I do like the infeed/outfeed tables, none with the Axminster version 😏. I’ll be interested how often you use it, I tend to use mine mainly for thin veneers etc with the odd cabinet door thrown in for good measure. Cheers Steve

Wow this is great timing since I just picked up and mostly set up my 1632 today. Your video is much much better than the instructions that come with it. Did your instructions show the batteries as C32 and the digital measurer having to be unplugged? Mine did and I am not sure if I got an older version or if this is the newer version. Thanks for the vid!

I had two manuals with mine, the main manual showed the old device with the C32 battery.
The other manual showed the one I discussed in this video. The latest version isn’t removable and takes AA batteries and has storage for the Alan keys.

I am having a real rough time getting the conveyor belt aligned.. it was great at first when running it empty, but once I did a couple passes the belt was riding up on the left in-feed side so bad that it frayed it badly . I then totally loosened both left and right nuts completely so I could manually reset the conveyor to its proper position Then evenly tightened the nuts up 1/4 turn at exact time until I had good tension. I turned on conveyor and I was just not quite able to stop the conveyor. ( perfect tension) So then I ran the conveyor belt empty for about a minute and it was starting to run to the left I feed side again . I played with the adjustment but just can’t get it to run evenly. So frustrated I gave up on it for the evening . It says in book to tighten the nut on the side the belt is running towards. And that’s exactly what I have been doing. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
The manufacturers of these machines you do your series in should be turning out quality videos like these. Proper thorough content. One question Andy , does it seem to take much floor space up and are you moving it much to work on machines?

In terms of floor space it is very well thought out. Fold the tables down and shove it out of the way into a corner.
The castors make a huge difference, without them it would become a chore to move around - but no issues at all.

Love your videos. Please clarify the belt tensioning process. When performing this operation, there are 4 bolts (two on each side) at the front of the table in slotted holes. Should these be loose when adjusting tension and when adjusting tracking of the belt? Do they get tightened down after belt adjustments or do you leave them slightly loose all the time?
Hi, the way I do it is,
I run the belt at full speed, without the drum running. There are then two handles that hang down, either side of the belt.
Whilst standing at the front of the machine, I look at the position of the belt. If it needs to move to the right I tighten the left side of the belt using the left hand handle. Alternative way round if it needs to move to the left.
I do not loosen of the bolts you are talking about as you need to adjust the tension on the belt.
You are making very very small adjustments and let it run for a while after each adjustment.

It came with the sander, to be honest it makes the job very fiddly - much easier to not use it.
I also find it can damage the paper. The tension spring is pretty stiff - so I can see why some folks would want to use it.

You should always starting wrapping the drum from the INBOARD to the OUTBOARD side of the sander!

I can’t talk for other machines - but on this one the tension spring for the paper is on the inboard. So you start on the outboard and then take up the slack with the tension spring on the inboard.
I can’t see it working the other way round.
What is the rational for inboard to outboard ?

Just wondering if you are having any issues with the feed belt tracking? I've seen a few videos with people struggling that problem.
I haven’t had that issue, but i know folks who have and can see why they would.
The trick is to back off the tension so the belt slips with hand pressure, then slowly tighten untill it no longer slips.
Then adjust the tracking by increasing the tension on the side of the drift and at the same time reduce the tension on the oposite side, very very small adjustments.
It takes a bit of tuning but I have found that works.
