This was by far the best song at the 2014 contest. It was a travesty that it only came to second. Beautiful song.

One of our best performances in Eurovision, Ilse and Waylon are doing so well. Soon after this they split up they had a kind of disagreement, they even don't talk to each other anymore. Ilse has got a house in Nashville and also performs in the USA, she even performed as an actress in the series Nashville in the USA.

Have you seen Arcade, by Duncan Laurence? Ilse de Lange, the lady you saw in this video, helped him win Eurovision 2019. It is a brilliant song!! Definitely worth a watch!

The song was based on an idea that came from the lead guitar player here. It was then developed further by Ilse and her co-writers.
Ilse started out with Waylon but now The Common Linnets eventualy became a Dutch American band. She has a big connection with Nashville as a country singer and it's her second home. So she knows her way around, preforms there, record her albums etc. She became formiliar with all the artists there. And she has stolen the hearts of many. So she teamed up with Jake Etheridge (he al so plays in the last season of Nashville as a guy that suffers from ptsd ), Rob and Matthew Crosby, together with her boyfriend Bart Vergoossen on drums and our Dutch JB Meijers to form the new Common Linnets and they are awesome.
The guitarist who played the little solo is JB Meijers, on of our best guitarplayers we have in the Netherlands.. And indeed both Ilse de Lange and Waylon did went to Nashville to perform.

Most of the times the songs at Eurovision are loud and bombastic, wih many special effect or silly clothing etc. This song stood out in the madness and loudness.
Portugal 2017, with Amar pelos dois, Salvador Sobral won for the same reason. The same with Duncan Laurance, Arcade from 2019 the Netherlands. Mayby you can listen to those songs to. Just "simple" beautiful songs, all about the music and feelings.

Eh, this being Eurovision, which is about more than just singing, as a Dutchman myself I'd say there was a good reason that Conchita won that year. Which also means that 2nd place is Best Sung Song, so we basically got recognized for our achievement regardless.

Funny you mention Nashville. I believe Ilse de Lange spends a lot of time in Nashville for recording her songs. They both are great singers and musicians, but I still think this song was unfit for winning the contest.
