This is exactly what I needed to see! I need to fix a lot of potholes and they all have water in them. Not looking for a glamorous finish just something that could last…
Loved this fix it job!!!! Well done! I’m sure it’s still serving it’s purpose now!

I did something kind of like this but i mixed my own concrete (3,2,1 mix) I wasn't sure if it was gonna last but it's been almost 10 years and that thing is still solid. Wish the original driveway had been done with that kind of mix.

Turned out pretty nice.. I like the gravel at the end. It matched the driveway way better than I would have bothered to do. :)

Good quick fix to by you some time before needed to fully deal with a costly repair later. I did something similar. Lasted longer than I thought. A couple of years.

This is just superb, I been tryin to find out about "how to build a 10x12 shed foundation" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Damkietor Nonpareil Dominion - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive product for building better sheds and woodworking minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my neighbour got cool results with it.

Actually a very strong repair as I’ve poured many fence posts and added broken parts of concrete and fences have been up for 10 years and not moved an inch! I know for a fact that adding rocks and old broken concrete will make the concrete pour much stronger because unlike these other people quick to judge and call it a terrible repair and hack job I’ve had to actually break up old concrete and I’ll tell u if it’s just concrete, it will break apart with a just a sledge hammer very easy! But if it’s concrete that was poured with rocks, brick pieces, stones or old concrete pieces then it’s just 10X harder to break apart. For everyone so quick to bash, where I’ve run into this type of concrete mix is old foundations, concrete steps, and fence posts.

    Hack is right....
Do it right and fix it ONCE!
Remove the water, add your fill rock, mix fiber reinforced crack resistant concrete, fill, vibrate to assure fulfill without air pockets and smooth, imbed top with gravel, let it set, then wash and brush to reveal the gravel top.
It's not harder than what's shown , and will last indefinitely.

Thanks for sove good ideas! I liked how you used the broom and rake to smooth it out. Although my problem is abt the same size, the slab is only in 2 or 3 pieces. Just caved in, and too heavy to lift out.Its on the up slope so no water collects in it. But it is seaping in at the collapsed area which is starting to cause some cracking downhill. The driveway is a 60 year old concrete/pebbles aggregate. I will probably clean it out, and fill with something similar to the original mix.

  • @jondavies2144
    @jondavies2144 Před 5 lety +7

It's funny to see that no one mentions the correct way to repair this would be to replace the slab costing hundreds in just the materials alone. For less than $10 you have a patched hole that is far better than the trip hazard it was before. In another year you might have to do it again for another $10.00. So 30 years later you might have spent $500 adjusting for inflation. I'd say that was a job well worth it and worth doing again based on the situation. Don't hate the hacks that work !!

My grandma wants me to do this. I keep telling her that when it inevitably fails, the subsequent repair is going to be more difficult and more expensive. I want to use asphalt and she says no. I want a professional opinion and she doesn’t want to bother anyone. All of the proper repairs are beyond my DIY level and she just wants to mix up some concrete up and pour it on top.

Should have been How NOT to hack a concrete driveway repair.
    1 Never cleaned the concrete
2 Refilled the hole with DIRTY broken concrete block. New concrete will NEVER BOND to it.
3 Left dirty water in the hole. LOL
4 Did not use any bonding agent.
5 Poured dry concrete into the hole. Another FAIL
6 Used way too much water finishing it off.
7 Probably looked just "OKAY" for less than a week.
8 If you got paid for this repair you should be ashamed of yourself.
