You ask an interesting question….for many years I believe we drifted away from teaching the art of thinking and we focused on teaching to a test or teaching to an outcome. As a result our scholars got more and more accustomed to just seeking the correct answer rather than a process of thinking about issues and being curious, being reflective, and being insightful about the world around them. I think we have a real opportunity in front of us now to have teaching refocus on helping students again become critical thinkers about themselves and the world around them. If I were interviewing candidates I would be excited to hear them talking about helping their students be more curious about the world.
