Love your videos (been watching since I was 8.... I'm 15 now) it's crazy how I would use to watch your videos wishing I could drive and now I can since I have my permit. Anyways, keep up the good work! They just get better and better
VERY nice- and yes- top notch! San Diego sure has changed it's skyline in the 25 years since I was there! Very nice and a great ride- I always loved the Coranado Bridge and had the honor to cross it a few times while I was in San Diego 25 years ago while there with my aunt! Very nice- and a great soundtrack to go with it- I-8, I-5 were two I got to explore a bit when I was in SD and it's nice to see some of the changes in the past 25 years! Another favorite of mine was the Cabrillo Freeway as well! SD- really is one of my favorite cities! Sorry about the delay in viewing! Well WORTH IT!

I lived in San Diego as a kid from 1993 to 1996. I've been considering heading there for a Spring Break trip (almost picked it over Colorado this year). Seeing how things have changed from my memories to what is shown on Google Earth Streetview is pretty staggering. If it wasn't for the expense of living there, and the radically "eclectic" mix of people that live there, I'd be welcome to the idea of living in California at my own volition. Also, I still can't believe San Diego hasn't done anything about it's airport problem. I really wish they had made the effort to develop a floating airport like what was proposed in the late 90s. The other options are to turn the general aviation use airports into full fledged commercial service airports. Miramar is the only one currently with the capacity to handle such use, but would have to be able to work around USMC operations. They could greatly expand the airfield in a way to keep commercial operations separated with dedicated runways.
+Blitzvogel Mobius The thing about the airport problem in San Diego is, where do they have the space to improve the airport? I think the only way to improve access would be to build an access terminal near where Washington Street meets I-5, because that would grant close freeway access, but doing that would essentially flip the airport terminals and entries. There's really nothing that can be done about the fact that the current airport is too antiquated, or not big enough to handle the number of flights that go in and out every day. As for your ideas concerning Miramar, certainly that is a big enough area, but aside from the issues regarding the USMC, there are also big traffic issues with that area, especially regarding I-15, in addition with the lack of public transportation in that area. I actually think a better idea for a new airport would be Camp Pendleton. Obviously, there are the same issues regarding the USMC, but while freeway traffic is an issue as it pertains to I-5, if an airport is built in Camp Pendleton, especially near the Oceanside end of Camp Pendleton, it would take pressure off both San Diego Airport and John Wayne Airport in Newport Beach, as Camp Pendleton virtually splits the difference between the two. In addition, given the fact that two NCTD routes already go into Camp Pendleton, in addition to the fact that both Amtrak and Metrolink go right by there, should an airport be built in the Oceanside end of Camp Pendleton, there's obvious mass transit access, both by bus and by rail. They've also talked in the past about building an airport in Boulevard, given the fact that there's a casino not far from there, but that's never made much sense, given that Boulevard is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
Ashamed to say I must have went to downtown 25-30 times from Camp Pendleton and not once thought to cross that bridge...to focused at 19teen (1989) to getting to Tijuana :(
Cool video, that looks like a nice city, and appears to not have the traffic/smog issues of LA, I-5 & I-15 are both practically Mexico to Canada freeways, I-35 is almost a Mexico to Canada freeway, but it terminates 100 or so miles short of the Canadian border
People who haven't been there find it hard to understand how beautiful San Diego is....especially at night.I used to love driving there late with the terraces of hills covered with an infinite number of twinkling lights all around you....like in a bowl.You gave them an idea at least with this video.Great selection on the second music track,as well.

Also, as someone who highly appreciates good music, I think you do a stellar job of audiotracking your drives. When I heard World Party on this particular video, I had to sit down to personally compliment you. Another track I thought was perfectly placed was "Midnight Cowboy" over an El Paso sunset. Lastly, I've lived in Atlanta myself for the past 20 years...Candler Park, Oakhurst, Downtown, Buckhead, Brookhaven, Emory, VaHi...all over. I have to ask, what keeps you here? Why not live in one of these other beautiful cities?
you have filmed the essence of the major highway thoroughfares through San Diego. The 5, I, ,52, 163, and others...I had to learn quick when I was stationed out in SD 2000-2005. They still look the same...not as much traffic though. Traveling from Coronado to Miramar Stables...and to Del Mar, and to downtown, Mission valley, Imperial Beach and the border, Point Loma, EL Cajon and Lakeside, and LaJolla, and up to Temecula, LA, and other places....brings back memories. You must have been traveling not during rush hour....Your change of lanes and exits were very smooth. Makes me wish I was there..lol. You do great. Do you do this for fun..or for a living?

Wow that's amazing. With all those eucalyptus trees it looks like you're driving in Australia. Seriously in the latter stages of the video it looks like you are driving in parts of Sydney. Only difference is freeway is too wide to be in Australia and also palm trees in some sections. I have been to SD but I drove on the coast and didn't venture inland.

Andrew Silva Thanks, I like to show a vintage map of what the area we're travelling was like decades ago, some roads were not built yet or under construction, I contrast that with a current map which also gives people some bearings on the route taken in the video.
Never driven there yet but it looks awesome, San Diego does! Is traffic usually this good by standards or just got lucky? Looks like roads are very good there in terms of lane count vs traffic.
Samuel Yuan I don't have enough experience there to know regarding the traffic, San Diego has a very extensive freeway system, just about all of what was planned got built.
It depends what time of day it is. During rush hour NEVER drive east on highway 52 and the 8 east is usually bad and traffic is usually worse south county than north county but going south and east on any freeway will be bad. The rest of the time there is generally no traffic
Have you driven through CA-163 from Downtown to the 15? It's really interesting progression from parkway to expressway..kind of like Arroyo seco parkway
San Diego is my favorite city on this planet bar none. You can get pretty much anywhere after ten minutes on the freeway. No better beaches anywhere. Borrowing the lyrics of a song, "If heaven ain't like San Diego, then I don't wanna go".
All the elements worked well together, again. The airliner flyovers were a nice bonus.

Rosecrans Street was formerly State Route 209 to Point Loma. Decommissioned in 2003.

The ca 52 freeway is actually San Clemente Canyon Freeway until you hit the 15 then it becomes the Mt Soledad Freeways into Lakeside
