This comment completely describes me. I had already messed up and screwed around with the front derailleur on my specialized hardrock because it wasn't shifting up to the big cog so I should've known after how well that turned out that I shouldn't mess with anything else at least not till I figure out the derailleur part. But......because the shifter wouldn't allow me to shift due to their not being enough slack in the wire or something I decided to break open the shifter. That went south right away as i tried to pry the cover off that thing and around 4 pieces went flying everywhere. That's why I am here watching this video!!!! Here's to hoping I can piece it back together again. If i do it then in my mind I'm a officially a bike repair guy despite being the one who screwed it up in the first place.
А самое главное, производитель раньше к каждому прибору давал подробную инструкцию в т.ч. по ремонту, а сейчас нет. А ведь ему запистать такое - вообще бес проблем, но почему-то именно надо продвигать такие ролики.

Same here. Brand new, would not up shift back to 8. The cable was bent backwards. Looked like poor assembly to me. But I couldn't work out the last spring position.

Took the shifter apart to release the jammed cable and all the springs flew apart, lucky this you posted this video, all working again, awesome. Thanks!
My shifter wasn't shifting up so I took the top off... All the springs flew out! If it wasn't for this video I would have to have ordered another one, thank you so much this video showed me how to reasemble my shifter and it now works perfectly, Thank You!

i took one apart for a customers yesterday like all the other comments as soon as i opend it parts just fell out i found some plastick was snaped inside there so lucky i had a spare one lying around that i swaped it over with and now his bike is fixed how stupid of a desighn it the shifter . great vid you made it may come in handy if i ever run into this problem again . i just kept thinking of why did all the parts just burst out and i looked it up and come across this

I too forgot to take a photo before removing bits and before i knew it, i forgot where the last two springs went. Thanks to your video it’s all back together again and working. Thanks very much.
THANKS dude, wouldn't have rebuilt my sram x5 shifter without your help. and yes the sram x5 has closely the same architecture just without the display.

I've learned something really useful from this video, and my attempt to follow it. The video is great. It really is. But what I've learned is this. If your SRAM X3 or X4 shifter fails, throw it away, and buy a replacement from ebay.

Не пойму только почему собранная часть рукоятки не разлетается к чертям, когда перестаешь держать ее сверху чтобы установить на место пластину (я был вынужден использовать скотч), а в целом все так и было)
I'd rather complain to the designer who designs a shifter, more complicated than a Swiss watch.... When my trigger shifter stopped shifting, I opened it up veeery caarefuuully, and.... - SPRROIIING.... - it was as if the thing had exploded in my hands.... Therefore: A thousand thanks for this video!
Thanks for the video, very helpful ! However, I opened it and reassembled all pieces nearly 8 times, everything seems ok. But the longest trigger only shift 4 times, and even if the trigger goes back, there's an "empty click" before the next change. So I'm limited to 4 shifts and have to push the trigger very far for each one... All the teeth seem ok, can't fix it, that's annoying !

Yep I did and have no clue. Got the bike yesterday and the POS shifter broke already so i wondered why. Now I have parts...

This was super helpful, after my shifter failed I was advised by the reseller to take it apart and inspect it...Springs went flying everywhere!
