Hey all! As it turns out, the ledge before the pipe section actually IS possible jumpless! Shoutouts to OuijaSpider for cracking the case:

I (apparently) had the right idea with the dragon fire, but it's possible to get even more initial height by first spitting out the ability, and then inhaling it midair after the dodge roll.
Also, I suppose I'll give any other updates on the challenge here as well as they come up. The Kirby speedrunning discord is going kinda nuts right now with glitch/trick discoveries so I wouldn't be surprised if the jump count was lowered even further soon ;)

You can also try to use the dragón fire ability in the pipe section and see if it's possible to fly around the walls
That means 5 jumps (but in my opinion 6 don't count so I say 4)
theres a glitch with the toy hamer ability
1 hover until you lose hight
2 hold B on the controler to do the atack
3 hover again

Meta Knight's Sword has an excellent air stall move, it can get you up the first ledge in the boss rush and maybe the second one too.
You can also use Speed Up items to avoid losing additional air time.

Also you can get Meta-Sword from the coliseum requiring no additional jumps

22:02 I do love how this series makes the level design seem like more of a puzzle than before. Like its not just easily traversed anymore, its a cliff face you need tactics to climb.

Most of your post world 3 problems would of been negated by meta knight sword (u get it from the first arena), it’s charge attack gives really good height and it’s multi air slash (the thing that replaces the stall move you used a lot) stays in the air longer than the normal one
Ok I’m not disregarding your point that would work but don’t you need waddle dees? Which may be possible but probably not without jumping

He would also need to get materials like stone so unless he can find three jumpless challenges before the Haunted House level the Meta Knight sword is beyond him.

That's gonna be hard, every ability in the game has like 2-3 moves- HOLD UP SWORD CAN DO THAT ATTACK WITHOUT EVOLVING IT?!
Yea try out other combos, like holding b after attacking in air as hammer, tapping b after jumping without dashing as drill (maybe for later upgrades). Sadly the game doesn't tell you every option

The sword copy ability has 3 or 4 upgrade
While I do have my doubts with the boat technicality (since it doesn't have a colon after the button to suggest it's a unique control named "Toward Land") I think the Meta Knight sword upgrade should be taken into consideration, since it being a Colosseum reward makes it free for this challenge. I don't know if it will help that much, but the bonus slashing before the downward stab could help with some areas.
That sponsor was so well implemented, I love how you integrated it right into the video without disrupting the flow

Knew you’d post this eventually, I doubt you saw the comment I made on the last kirby vid, but i’m gonna be very curious to see how you tackle a certain level later on, gonna watch with baited breath the entire time.

the rest of those jumps seem annoying tho :/…. i have an idea on beating the 3-4 jump tho, gonna test and ill edit again to say what happens
ooh I did see your comment on the last video I just forgot to reply. It honestly scared me a little bit cuz it came after the 4-4 boat section which made it sound like you found a way to get past that part haha
@@SampleChample do you tried using meta knight Swift to clear the boos rush? To my knowledge it has just enough movement to clear it, and you can get it fairly easy just by swallowing meta knight sword on his fight
@@SampleChample Sorry haha, I was doing my own run and after world two my brain kinda just clicked that the lava level existed and I went to test that immediately.
As for 4-3, I have actually made a discovery that might make it possible. At the end of that boat section, around the corner of the bomb enemy is actually a trapped waddle dee, and when you get the checkpoint for it, your respawn is set there. Bandana Dee can also reach it whilst Kirby is in the boat. The only downside to this is that it's blocked by some ice blocks, so if you could potentially either knock down one of the fire enemies up the ladder (idk if they can interact with the environment), or if Bandana Dee has a way to unthaw those blocks, that would remove an entire jump!

I tried to do a no jumping challenge for star allies and ended up with 6 jumps from the first level alone, I don't believe I jumped at all afterwards with rules being:Kirby cannot jump, Puff, or mix. But that first level was pain incarnate.
Sword, ninja and whip were my best friend throughout.
Oh I forgot to mention I'm not quite done with the challenge but I am at the final world
CMeeCraft did that one too, but he allowed mixing. He got two jumps in the first level by damage boosting from the first Waddle Dee, mixing for Cleaning and then using it to get Bluster Sword.
The only other jumps were from Friend Circles, of which there were 35.
moonlight canyon's solution seemed so perfect that it honestly felt like an intended puzzle

God, literally yesterday I was thinking about this and I wanted to try it after I finished the first playthrough. It looks fun and within minites of trying out the abilities on my own I realized the ease of most of the game

This was much quicker than I expected, it's only been a few days! Don't push yourself too hard.
Also, when it comes to the boat, with a generous interpretation, dismounting a boat is actually quite similar to something like dismounting a wheelie rider. Just that it uses the jump button in this case, which makes it a bit iffy.

it's always my favorite part of these to see what the smallest, inconsequential seeming thing end up being so much more difficult than the entire rest of the level. like the ledges between the boss rushes.

In the coliseum you can get meta knights sword, which can go significantly further horizontaly and a bit further verticaly. I've tried to go over the wall in the boss rush level but I wasn't able to get it (note that I wasn't even able to get in the first one with fire, I'm not the best at this).

Man, the fact that it's possible to make it so far into the game at all without jumping is impressive. Props for making it so far before meeting an impassable area.
Fun fact: I wasn’t even aware of dodging in this game until the post game final final boss where I figured it out by accident. How did I beat all those bosses without it? Lots, and lots, of determination

I had NO IDEA sword still had it upward slash. I knew sword’s SPIN could gain height. It might be the same amount of height as the upward slash, but I think it stalls in the air a bit better. Idk. Maybe I’ll do some testing. Not that I think it’ll help with the literal only jump in the whole challenge.

@@sampvp134 nnnnope. It’s the same as the upward slash in the video. Pressing the button doesn’t jump, it just activates an ability that, in the 2D games was activated by holding up, much like the upward slash. Both of these moves needed a new way to be input, and the button that made the most sense to map it to the other button that gives you height. Neither move is an actual jump.
When in doubt, just turn it into a "how many jumps does it take" challenge!

I actually started this challenge yesterday and got up to the same world 4 boat level, I couldn’t get the ring, but it’s nice to know it’s basically not possible to get through the level anyway (you can’t convince me towards land isn’t a jump) Good Video!
It's like the game was made to have a no jump puzzle for this VERY specific pathing. Very good job at finding all this, because I would never have come up with anything remotely this far into the game!

Great run! Had to stop right at the very end but it was still amazing to watch.
When I did my run (currently at the start of world 5 for it), I used hammer for most of it because I was a little iffy on using Sword's upward slash because it uses A. So I used hammer for most of it and... it's really good. It doesn't give as much height as the other abilities, but it's a lot more versatile then things like Drill that doesn't work against some things
P.S. I am wanting to do a 100% run, but I want to do a MAX% run first

@@tylerbubby7121 Max% is a term typically used when doing a challenge that restricts gameplay, and means trying to get everything possible with that restriction, as opposed to Any% beating the game.

When I first played the game I was thinking "Yeah it's not looking good for a jumpless challenge." Surprisingly enough though you basically got to the end if ya don't count That. I at first considered the upward slash as jumping, but due to just how much it's needed, and because there are still sections that are absolutely brutal, I'll allow it
When I played the demo and saw the dodge roll I was like hes totally gonna play this without jumping

I did some testing in "Windy, Freezing Seas" and I was able to clear the gap and make the jumps at the end using the drill ability.
Bandana Dee has to be used to grab the star at the end of the boat screen, however I haven't figure out how to get the Ring Mouth mouthful ability out of the hole while having the drill at the beginning of the boat screen.
Why didn’t you evolve Sword into Meta Knight Sword, then staying in the air is much easier with it’s Upper Caliber😡

That's the Dodge "Jump" (it probably has a real name, but I'll just call it that.) It's performed by pressing a direction while blocking. Not to be confused with the normal jump.

The Moonlight Canyon jump can be done without Final Cutter by upgrading Sword to Meta Knight Sword (unlocked via the Colosseum). It gives four additional air stalls after an uppercut, and if you aim and time them properly you can just barely clear the cliff from a nearby rock.
Swinging the sword also emits a little bit of light (even more at full health due to beams) so anywhere you need to ditch the light bulb in the dark is a bit easier.
Waddle Dee strats are legendary! XD

21:24 mouthful storage can be used with an ability and goes through loading zones, it’s just literally a frame perfect input
(Use the mouthful storage on the car, bring it through the loading zones, then use it at the pipe section)

I already complained that they took out the upwards slash from sword, and now i see that not only is it in the game, but it’s connected to sliding, another move i thought to be removed? Why did they not include the moveset lists in the pause menu in this game? That would have solved this problem, as well as other cases of ability attributes not being properly explained such as [SPOILER] sword’s life steal, easily

With the toy hammer you can get up insanely high without jumping I’m pretty sure.I don’t know exactly how to do it but failboat in his channel does a whole video about it.The glitch has something to do with charging the attack
