- Andreas Scholl Recital in Beaune July 2010 with Accademia Bizantina: Purcell`s "Man is for the Woman made"
Man is for the woman made,
And the woman made for man;
As the spur is for the jade,
As the scabbard for the blade,
As for digging is the spade,
As for liquor is the can,
So man is for the woman made,
And the woman made for man.
As the scepter to be sway'd,
As for night's the serenade,
As for pudding is the pan,
And to cool us is the fan,
So man is for the woman made,
And the woman made for man.
Be she widow, wife or maid,
Be she wanton, be she stayed,
Be she well or ill array'd,
Whore, bawd or harridan,
Yet man is for the woman made,
And the woman made for man. - Hudba

A group of crazy people. I did not know that Scholl's french is that fluent
First time I've ever heard the audience clap together in time.
They were demanding an encore. And they got a good one.
Einfach köstlich!
Quand Andreas met le feu à la salle de concert.

j'adore lui entendre parler en Français! et bien sûr j'ai chanté : "Man, man , man is for the woman made, / And the woman made for man; " ha ha ha! charmant!
Ich habe gerade erfahren dass Andreas Franzosich spricht!
The third verse is more than a little bit spicy!
Well, it was the restoration period!
@LutzDerLurch I too am trying to locate a DVD as every youtube video of this is removed! If they remove all of them they should provide us with the opportunity to see it in the form of a DVD, if not - they themselves should put it on youtube or let others.
@Steamology DAMMIT! If they don'T sell it, they should make it available for free. This Way or the other, such things should be made available for those who are interested.
ВРАВО!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@LutzDerLurch you could ask ARTE, they should own the rights for this production..
Human is made for the cat and the cat for the human
True
Is there any way to buy this, e.g. by means of a DVD?
Aivan oikea viesti sisältyy näihin sanoihi mielestäni, kun ottaa huomioon nykyään vallitsevan suuntauksen seksikeskustelussa.
Love the fact that this jolly song has offended so many people! They want the human race to die out, I suppose.
Je l'ame/déteste. :)
Pas de son ???
I have a dream of blasting this from a hidden loudspeaker at some gay activist or feminist conference to watch SJWs go crazy. Purcell is the best. Wish there were more of him.
i have gay friends but i admit it it would be funny
and i wish u'd get a life instead of being a jerk.
That would be awesome. Obviously, some of the comments you'll get will be an indication.
@@brandonburrell8517 an indication that he is a bigger JO than you are?
Purcell is the composer, dumb bell. Been dead for a long time! Andreas Scholl is the countertenor. Get a life while you are at it. Pity.
The fact this piece's chorus is sung in such a high pitch makes its content very ironic. Andreas and the group clearly don't take it seriously, and enhance the humour of it while singing like drunk men. For those who see it as an anti-SJW anthem, perhaps the joke's on you.
I don't think of it as a tune having any anti-LGBTQ agenda....gosh, it's baroque and it's a merry little tune. But, I agree that it is a little sexist, though. Obviously, Mr. Purcell would have been against women who said that a woman without a man is like a fish without a bike (as the 70s feminists said). On the other hand, that was then. Still, humans have always been the way they are. Just change the date.
Mon Dieu !
Send this to gays
I've seen the gay couple Peter Pears and Benjamin Britten perform this with great enthusiasm. It's a fun song and not meant to disparage anybody or anything.
Gay person here, I don't see them taking what they're singing seriously. Gives off vibes of what opera singers do when they've spent a long evening at the pub.
A total political incorrekt song.
his chest voice is even worse than his falsetto. and this song is like... wtf.
?
There's only one thing worse than stupidity, and that's invincible ignorance.
