This made me emotional. Such a beautiful and well deserved tribute. Born [a] Goon is criminally under viewed at this moment. But it won’t remain that way.
You have a gift, sir.
Your words are too kind Thank you
I'm with you, Subscribed, liked and commented.
A .❤
The only other thing criminal is how poor of quality of the footage we have left of the early 2000's motocross\supercross. I know high quality examples exist some where, but im sure they are locked up in vault some where and will never see the light of day.
What even more strange is that we have footage of races from the 80s that is better quality of anything from the early 2000's. 😟

RC and bubba were just unbelievable.
The pinnacle of any racing ever i my opinion.
Ricky had the unreal natural talent, bubba had the balls to push his abilities further than anyone else at the time. Was electric watching those two race..when they booted bubba after the drug test, i lost all intrest in keeping up with professional mx. Watched bubba win in detroit, and toronto that season live, was devistated he couldnt finish the season. The good old days man...
What a Warrior unless you have ridden MX you cannot understand the toil it takes on your body, GOAT is well deserved.
thanks for watching
I just started riding and it is a workout my arms thighs and butt are killing me after every ride.
It's insane how tired you can be after 15 minutes. When I first started there were motos that I couldn't even hang onto the bars after 10.
As a racer of mx/sx Ricky will always be looked at as the MJ of our sport.
Im 52 now, me and my buddy got rm 250s in 1994 and rode at an outdoor supercross track for a few years ,when i we started we could only go hard for adout 5 to ten minutes and be completely worn out,we went every thurs. To the practice days,by the end of the summer we cuold go all out for 1.5 hours straight without stoping....i was in the best shape of my life and i can say motocross has to be the the most physically demanding sport of all time and most people dont believe me when i say it..
And we whent to a bunch of rickys races at high point and mt morris
I was lucky enough to be at his last supercross race. Chad Reed & Buba Stewart almost ruined it for him. Man those were the days…
those were in fact the days The last great days of MX
Was that Orlando 2006?
Bubba did in fact beat RC in the final Supercross race.
@johnarnett1411 Yes, it was Orlando! I was there. And going over the triple Carmichael looked back at Stewart, and waved 👋 let's go!!! And at that moment, Stewart put the hammer down after Carmichael leading several laps and Reed falling back. Carmichael and Stewart started really gapped Reed...
Stewart caught Carmichael and passed him in the WHOOPS. After that Carmichael had no answer and that was it.
@@johnarnett1411it was also later noted something about his wife giving birth and his helicopter dropped him off pretty much before the race started. As I remembered it I did not see Carmichael in the pits like the other races I had been at. So who knows. It was along time ago.
Gretzky had a stick. Jordan had a ball. The babe had a bat. And Ricky had two wheels. He is the definition of the GOAT. so glad I got to see him in his natural habitat, the great outdoors.
Brady also had a ball😜
I have a boomerang
No. Ricky had the throttle!
Kelly had a surfboard.
Bradman had a bat (cricket)
I am so lucky to have lived during his reign. What a show it was. Such determination. Thank you Ricky!
RC is only rider to ever lap the entire Field.
Also the only rider to ever win every single race of the AMA outdoor motocross season.
@@johnjones4096James Stewart did it in 2008 and so did Jett Lawrence in 2023
Was that at unadilla?
@@dano1307 Spring Creek. It was a mud race and that's part of the reason he was able to do so. Still...incredible feat.
@@triple6758 ahh thats right. I was just a kid at the time racing pw50's.
Love it! Well put together. I think the GOAT himself would appreciate it
Thank you
Omg Ricky should see this, please everyone tag him on any social media, this was amazing a long video watched no skip no nothing just amazing
I wish I could thumbs up this video a hundred times. Awesome piece of motorcycle history. What a video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
make a hundred yt accounts ^_^
Awesome video and tribute. Ricky is an absolute legend and incredibly lucky to have parents that loved and sacrificed for him like they did. It's hard to think about how many kids out there have hidden talents and gifts that will never be recognized because they don't have parents that would do even half of what the Carmichael's did for theirs. They deserve legend status themselves.
Ricky was an inspiration to me as a kid and still is!
As a rider and fan. I started out watching Hanna and O’Mara. I am a massive McGrath fan. I’ve watched every MX and SX race from then to the rise of the Lawrence brothers. Thank you for the best video summary of one of the most amazing eras in motocross history. And I must say, as amazing as it is to watch it all on TV. Watching any of these live is mind blowing!! These riders definitely defy the laws of physics. Especially James Stewart. Blessed to have been present for all the Toronto SX races. Thank you.
Dude, O’Show’s 1986 Motocross Des Nations run was legendary
Mcgrath vs Ricky was fun...
What an awesome, well put together tribute. Well done sir, you brought tears to my eyes.
With all the talk about Jett right now this is a nice reminder of who the GOAT really is
yep Jett just needs about 120 more wins
Media needs to create hype for the sake of hype. Name one year where they're not hyping something
@@Revy8 You aren't wrong but Jett definitely has earned his hype even if it does get a bit annoying
Well Jett already has a better career trajectory than Carmichael
I remember watching Ricky ride ALL day on a KX60 in Croom, and when I say ALL day, I mean ALL day. His parents and he sacrificed so much to get where they are today. They give so much back to the motorcycle community as well. You won't meet any nicer people than Carmichael's. As sad as it was to see him retire, I'm glad he was able to without any permanent injuries.
Thank you for making this documentary and showing the struggle of Ricky and his parents to get to where they are today. ❤
You've got to have Parents that are well enough off to have a chance to make it in Motocross.I loved riding motorcycles as a young kid ( 11 years old ) and would have loved to raced Motocross but I had a younger Sister and Brother and we all played little league sports. So I knew that my parents couldn't afford to spend that much time and money on just one of their three kids.I finally did race Motocross but I was in my late twenties and it was just for fun and not for a living or career job.
Nostalgia overtook me and I watched the entire video absolutely loved this one by far one of the best recaps of his amazing career
Thank you for watching it
I saw him in 2006 racing against Stewart and Reed. What a race. Stewart was pressing so hard but Carmichael would not yield. It was a classic performance.
Wow.
That was absolutely enthralling.
Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
When RC raced his last six 450 Nationals he rode at the speed of death to beat James Stewart every race !!! He went out in a blaze of glory !! Wow those were the greatest days ever !!! RC is the true 🐐🐐🐐 !!!!
He always rode wide open it seemed
This video put so many smiles on my face. Bravo, sir!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very Well Done. Agree RC is the greatest. Also, Amazing footage and pictures you gathered. Thanks dude
Glad you enjoyed it
Another instant classic. I'm not even into MX and the name is immediately familiar, dude is the Dale of the sport.
Thnks for watching
Always a pleasure! Top of the game fr@@BornAGoon
What a fantastic tribute, no matter what you say about RC in the booth he will always be a phenomenon and forever the GOAT
The introduction of this video gives me chills. I love your documentaries. More please!!!
Great job on conveying the true dominance Ricky inflicted on his competitions, an amazing era!!
Thank you
This channel needs to he alot bigger ! The amount of time and effort it would take to find all the clips and gather every bit of information is very impressive! Good work bud ! Very well packaged in one video !
Thank you for the kind words
@@BornAGoon absolutely!
I gotta say, you did a great job with this. I can’t stand RC but there’s no doubt he is the all time GOAT.
thanks for watching it
What can't you stand about him? He's the epitome of hard work over talent. He had the least to work with and turned out to be the greatest of all time. He's humble too. A chunky 5'6 kid with him mom as a trainer who had no idea what she was doing, and his dad who learned motorcycle mechanics on the fly. Literally the odds were completely against this dude and he just said "fuck the odds, I'll just outwork everyone", and the dude made it. Tell me, what isn't to love about RC? I was a huge Bubba fan, as well as a big Ivan Tedesco fan and an Alessi brothers fan, but I cannot think of a single reason to dislike Carmichael other than because he always beat your favorite rider lol.
Thanks for all the hard work you put into this.
Love your work!
Glad you enjoy it!
Goon ! - I cant imagine the work that goes into making these QUALITY Vids ! - All I can say is THANX !
Thank you for watching it Yes they take a long time to make probably 50 to 80 hours
love your videos! born a goon but also a storyteller
Thank you for the kind words
Thanks for refreshing my memory 🏆
Drive,honesty,integrity
RC was born with it,put those attributes inline with a passion
work ethic, talent your going too do well
Coolest rider ever........
Well said!
It’s crazy how fast the best of the best are, I remember in 2004 (I think) when Clark Styles came to one of our local motocross races, his semi rolled in about 10min before the A main start, he rolled out on the only 4 stroke race bike any of us had ever laid eyes on in person lol the track went across the property, 180 turn back through whoops, across the start gate, and 180 again across the start gate before going around the perimeter to reconnect to the whoops and he didn’t leave the gate until everyone had passed in front of the gate. Basically giving everyone a half lap head start, in a 5 lap race on a track were he was turning a sub 45sec lap time. He passed the entire field and lapped his way up to 3rd in a field of around 8-9 riders. There was a double-triple-single rhythm that he was doing double-quad from lap 1, he had never seen the track before as it was a temp track in the local park that was a once a year event at that location and had definitely never ridden it before. And to think, he couldn’t compare to Ricky, or Reed in this era. Blows my mind to this day when I think about it.
Speed isn't everything.
You have to be in top shape.
What an absolutely incredible video, probably my favorite racing documentary ever. Man you really do have a way with words. Ricky was sensational, I wish I was old enough to have watched more of him.
I teared up a few times during this video….bravo.
Loved the video watched all 40 minutes. The video footage and commentary left me on my seat as it did watching him live back in the day.
Another outstanding presentation, 5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you so much 😀
He is the goat. My uncle bought one of his bikes that he raced with. Yeah that thing was insane to ride and a little scary. Straight up legend
What an absolutely incredible watch. I'm not even a huge Moto/Supercross fan but growing up in Ireland in the 90s there used to be a weekly highlights show that came on late night. I decided to give it a go one night and it was Ricky Carmichael putting on a clinic. I watched the show every week from that point until they stopped airing it. Thank you so much for this beautiful tribute and for taking me back to those nights in my late teens and early twenties. You've earned yourself another subscriber.
What an epic weekend at Washougal in 2006, My son won the 250 Int. at 13 yrs old. Then we hung out and watched Ricky and James battle, Ricky flew off his bike did a couple summersaults landed on his feet and sprinted to his motorcycle....Awesome!!
Great video, that 2007 Budds creek fair well race for MXON is still talked about here in Maryland as that year was a true changing of the guard from one dominant champion to a future one with RV
Good times in motocross
I was there. Fantastic day. It was affordable to drive from Michigan and see that race in 2007, unlike a MXofN race today. I was not going drop a grand to go to my most previously visited track, Red Bud. FIM really takes the money.
Thank you for sharing this story and video and I will never forget the first time I met him in 91 at Loretta Lynn’s and watched him in his first Professional race at Atlanta Supercross in 97 on 125s and watched him from then till he retired every year at Atlanta Supercross and I still have pictures and Autographs from him each year great memories and a great person on and off the bike and a True Legend and he still loves his fans Thank you RC #BornAGoon #RickyCarmichael
Thank you for watching it That must have been cool
Such a good one!! This is the GOAT of CZcams Moto-Channels!!
Wow, thanks!
Man this was awesome to watch take me back to probably the greatest era of dirtbike racing in general. Would love to see one you do one of James Stewart aswell i think he's diserving of one. RC was the greatest ever outside but i think Stuart was the greatest inside. Truly appreciate watching this Thanks.
I have been a supercross and Motocross fan since the beginning of the McGrath era. I got so bored of watching Jeremy wax everyone with ease. Then when RC came along and became the goat he was a true beast. There was not a bigger fan of RC then me ! He pushed the sport to the highest levels ever seen ! When RC retired I quit watching supercross and Motocross for five years ! Because RC was the face of the sport to me without him I thought it was nothing anymore. Man did I enjoy RC just absolutely giving it his all Just an absolute tough SOB who could clean anyone's clock those were the greatest years of my life watching RC turn into the Goat ! Thanks RC for elevating the sport to the highest levels ever an entertaining the fans for all those years !
Best ever
You and him should get a room I’m sure u could do some damage 😂 your probably a Webb fan to seeing how Ricky gobbles him up to 😂
As always Great storytelling and narration Goon.
In the age of AI you should think about copyrighting your voice. :)
Been raining here for 2.5 months and now the freeze has set in.
Some of us still ride and watch videos.
That's a good idea!Thanks for watching
This was a fantastic video. Thank you!
Wow.... This was seriously a superb put together bio of GOAT Ricky Carmichael I'VE seen thus far. Things I never even knew about him. Couldn't stop watching. Well done sir 👏👊
Yep and the main thing is there’s no excuses!!! Old school rode with heart ❤️ and respect ✊
Old school is right
Awesome video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
This was so good!! Thanks for making this
Outstanding job! Take your 8,000th like from me!
What a great “documentary” it’s awesome, I was 7 when I started watching with my dad and Ricky was always our guy, the thing that fascinated us the most was his bike and how not build for the sport he was.
I know I remember the honda it looked like a chopper
@@BornAGoon No it didn't. It was lowered. Lower bikes corner better too. It was a huge advantage that we don't think of today, as I watch amateur track racers go so slow around corners on some of these very tall bikes today. Today's bike set up, (tall bike, tall bars and level levers) is dysfunctional for a MX bike. Believe it or not,---you get your bar set up from freestyle. Kids started moving their bars up at the same time freestyle took off. I would love to see a real, clay, (no ruts or berms), off camber corner. The pros would not know how to ride it. DeCoster would have to show them.
@@EarthSurferUSAClaiming the result of 60 years of performance focused development is "dysfunctional" shows me where the real dysfunction is...between your ears.
I was a Huge Jeremy McGrath fan. Ricky never had it easy
Carmichael's skill and talent on a dirt bike was un-equaled.
Then, on top of that,..he had everyone beat on fitness and work ethic. Then,...he had more grit and fierceness than the rest. He was a complete animal, with the heart of a lion and the will of a pitt bulldog.
He is the GOAT !!
One of the best docs I’ve seen ……… on any subject ! I don’t even ride , I’m just a sports fan ! Very well done !
We def need one of these videos on both Stewart brothers!!!
yes we do
I'm a Stewart fan boy so I definitely say yes we do
@@SpaceRanger187 I really hope you makes a video about him. It would be great! That dude has some AMAZING races and is an incredible rider
Damn, it’s hard to believe somebody had a perfect season twice in their career. I remember it in 2004 but I did not remember the earlier one in 2002. This guy did it twice!!!
yea and almost a third time
Jetts gonna do it twice or more
I want to let you know I grew up watching this guy followed his career since real close since probably 97 and this is a amazing telling of a man than figured a way to win then did whatever it took to achieve it. I'll definitely definitely check out some of your other stuff. Well done sir.
Kevin Windem lives in my hometown. I've been to his place several times. He used to throw huge New years parties. That's the first place I ever had a beer.
Being the same size as him i can see how he struggled with the 250 2 strokes. I got a 23 yz250 for my first dirt bike and to ride it like youre supposed to is hard for someone my size. Im sure theres people who could do it but i struggle holding onto the bike with how hard the power pulls, Its lighter than my 07 kx250f surprisingly and you can tell right away.
thanks for watching and commenting
Pound for pound. If Ricky brings a knife you better bring a tank. If he brings a gun you better bring the USMC 3rd Battalion.
50% bad + 50% ass = 100% BADASS!
all badass
Excellent narration....great upload. Ricky has given so much to motocross and continues to this day...2024.
SENSATIONAL!!! Thank you
You're very welcome!
You really oughta to look into the life story of Hunter and Jettson Lawrence and their family. A pair of brothers from the Sunshine Coast of Australia that not only beat the odds while the family lived in a camper van traveling across Europe, but have shattered expectations of those in the motocross business. What those two have accomplished in their careers already have been mind boggling. Hunter and Jett, in 2023 alone, claimed 5 of the 7 AMA pro dirtbike titles, with Jett winning the 250 West title and the 450 MX (UNDEFEATED!) and SMX World titles, and Hunter winning both the 250 East and 250 MX titles. Not only that, but the brothers have both been great ambassadors to the sport outside of it.
We all know them let jett finish winning and hunter make a comeback before we get excited

Lol, it's not even debatable. 15 Championships, 2 perfect seasons and a 3rd nearly perfect, no one is close. If he felt like racing the full schedule in '07 it would have been 17 titles.
Amazing Job, This video brilliantly captures the essence of his unparalleled career. From his fearless riding style to his numerous achievements, Ricky's legacy in the motocross world is nothing short of legendary. The way he dominated the tracks, his unmatched work ethic, and his relentless determination make him a true icon in the sport. Thanks for celebrating the greatness of Ricky Carmichael - a true inspiration for every motocross enthusiast out there!
Utterly brilliant as always, Mr. Goon

That was brilliant. Very well done. You covered everything. I've often tried to explain to my non mx friends his achievements but they can't comprehend. Now I can show them.this .
He really is a bad ass. The best to ever be.
One of the best documentaries I have ever watched ❤ 🐐
I was a moto grom in the 90s and Ricky has been as always will be my favorite rider! I always had the same make bike same colors same numbers and being a redhead i was truly his mini me. Always the nicest guy to meet in the pits and just hands down an amazing role model for the youngins. These days i am avid ricky relics collector ive got about a dozen of my favorite jerseys he wore with a good number of them autographed race used by him! so much fun collecting from the greatest era of motocross in history. my favorite in my collection is a 92 hi flyers rookie card of him on his kx80 that i have signed from him. looking forward to seeing him again this year at Daytona!!

Wow, that was fantastic. Thank you.
Watched it from start to finish. Great video!!! I come from the David Bailey, Ricky Johnson, Larry Ward, & Johnny O'mara era, but there is no competing with RC.
Goon you’re really good at this. I would request you do some of the guys from the beginning who people dont even know exist. Bob Hannah. David Bailey. Johhny O. Broc Glover. Etc. thanks so much for this video. It’s good enough for ESPN.
Thanks for posting !
This sport needs channels like born a goon. So many new fans looking for awesome history like this. Great work sir.
What a great video, brings out all the greatness of whom Ricky and his family really are.
Well elaborated, good narrative and a lot of details that change a lot of the perspective for the well known Ricky’s championship/victories numbers.
I was at his last race in canada in 2006. I was cheering for stew because i was 5 and green was my favourite colour. I dont remember much of the race other than james winning and being amazed watching dirt bikes racing.
awesome story
I am so glad I had the privilege of seeing him race in person. I knew when I seen him win his first SX race at Atlanta he was going to be something special. He was just so much faster than everyone else out there.
Amazing video dude, about to binge your whole channel
Wow another great video. Your killin it.
Absolutely amazing video. My formative years were watching the transition from Jeremy to Ricky, and then watching Ricky take on the most talented field to ever exist, and each time he came out on top. This current crop of riders is great, but man... the GOAT was something special. Thank you so much for this video, it was an absolute pleasure to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, what a tribute. You told the story very well, Goon. I remember watching many of those Carmichael dominating races. I am a S'Moto rider and can appreciate the level of natural talent the Goat, Stewart, and McGrath displayed on two knobbie tires and an unforgiving track surface... SALUTE 🫡
Thank you very much!
What an incredible story. And what a Über-fantastic storyteller! Thank-you! Thank-you.
So awesome!!!🥹
It must have been amazing being Ricky. His competition had to beat everybody else and Ricky to win. All Ricky had to do was win. Wonderful tribute, you do indeed have a gift with words.
