- A day in the life of a Japanese Kinako Roasted Soybean Powder Maker in Tokyo Japan. Kinako powder though, uniquely known for it’s soft flour-like, sweet and nutty taste, originated in Japan during it’s nara & heian period and was used as a medicine by the wealthy due it’s exceptional nutritional value, but now commonly eaten with with many Japanese sweets like mochi and even dairy products. Ogawa Sangyo, a local Kinako factory that’s been expertly crafting roasted soybean powder since 1908 when Keisuke’s great grandfather started the factory. Companies like this, with a long history are called Shinise and are quite common in Japan as there are about 43,000 companies which are more than 100 years old, more than any other country in the world, and their mostly family owned. While owned by the 3rd generation father, the 4 generation son, Keisuke, is working hard to take over the family business and all of the roasted soybean flour production responsibilities. We follow Keisuke through his day in living in Tokyo, from morning until evening to see how he is running the Japanese kinako roasted soybean powder factory. Understanding this, he attended a specialized commercial high school, which concentrated on business knowledge, studied law at university and then worked at professional kitchen appliance company for 10 years, and with all this experience finally returned to help continue on the legacy. The factory used Fuku-yutaka Soybeans known for its exquisite sweetness grown in the rich and fertile soil of saga prefecture. On an average day like this, the factory processes about 600kg, 1320 lbs of their raw soybeans, which will ultimately yield 30x 18kg 40lb bags of sweet roasted finely ground kinako powder. This is Keisuke's typical factory work day in Japan.

Hola! Best regards from mexico!
I’m waiting for the UK store!
keep doing gods work paolo. i love these videos B)
@@89. it's a lot more densely populated, so you'll appreciate it when someone is wearing one and not sneezing in your face on the subways.
Oh wow, I didn't know that kinako was made from roasted soy beans. Learned something new, as always on this channel! 🎓❤
High five to this guy for being the jack of all trades at home and at work. The family spirit is strong in him.
And he's also jacked.
3 kids as well, damn hero
And he still cares about the homies after university. He's old-school with his relationships
He truly was a jack off all trades, kinda guy.
The kids at the store part is a real as it gets, lol.
I love how the kids just hang with Paolo for a bit, shows that he's actually connecting with these people :))
"Is Paolo a name?"
"IT'S ACTUALLY A NAME?"
I like their curiousity for a name that sounds foreign to a japanese kid. 😂

That guy is the definition of a man. Good son, good husband, good father, good friend. The world needs more men like him.
Oh there are plenty. But when you look at how western women have become, grinding it out like that seems kinda pointless when there's a high chance you'll never find a proper woman. The nuclear family isn't exactly a high priority among women in the west at the moment. They are basically brainwashed from early age to not need a man and be a "boss lady" and just sleep around. Thank you modern feminism, great job!! I'd move to Japan in a heartbeat if I knew the language.
He's from Japan. Of course he's the definition of a man.
@@Hitherto90 you said a very nice thing A A Ron
@@Hitherto90ctually the stereotypical Japanese Salary man never does any housework or cleaning. They depend on their stay at home wife to do everything.
This guy isn’t a normal Salary Man. He works with family and friends doing something that he is passionate about. His closeness to his family makes him a better man. He also has time with family. This is why he has so many children. Japan Society as a whole should take notes so they can make Japan better.
@@JasonB808yeah quite surprising tbh but yk there’s a lot of people in this world it really is hard to completely generalize a country
The father showing nothing but admiration for his son and what he can bring to the company was definitely the highlight as not everyone can/will work along side family.
Truly agree with you and also how he truly understands the business and how it has to grow.
I'm very impressed with all of the family and how they work together, and especially as a total family.
Appreciate that Paolo brings out the best content with these interviews and would like to see a follow up to this one especially. Excellent content but especially bringing out the real spirit of the family and small business they run.
The "Day in the Life" series is clearly your signature product. They always entertain and inform, and the production quality is always high. Well done, Paolo.
Mad respect for this man, the amount and variety of work he does is insane
dude is a stamina king staying up from 5am to evening constantly doing some work
And he cooks for a family of 5

"Paolo is actually a name?" 😂 so cute!! Thanks for another great day in the life, I always look forward to these. The amount of research and planning is evident please keep it up!!
my favorite part of this video loool hillarious hahaha
It's so funny haha
hahahaha I buss out laughing!🤣
Wait until he discovers Ls and Rs.

I don't know about anyone else, but these videos really help reduce my anxiety levels for some reasons. I always watch my favorites when my anxiety is really bad (usually just before bed) and they are a great resource for controlling my anxiety. They are just so wholesome and calming. Thanks for the amazing content Paolo!
100% agree..it is like this for me as well
Same! I suffer from really bad anxiety and sometimes I watch these types of videos to relax and ease myself down whenever it kicks in.
agree
Absolutely agree! These videos are so wholesome... and in my case, being someone more shut off into the tech industry, I find it so calming and eye opening to see other people's lives... than you Paolo!
Same
The fact that he wakes up early, makes breakfast for his kids and wife, works a variety of jobs and then makes dinner? Wow. You sir have earned my respect!
It's too much - I dislike this "all-or-nothing" approach where people either slack off completely (which is bad for them and society) or are expected to put themselves through a massive grind each day. Living like 90% of the "day in the life" people would be a total horror to me. There is barely any time at all for themselves, everything is crowded and scheduled to the t.
Paolo from toyko helps me learn more about japan and he never disappoints
Dictionaries will have his picture as the deinition of "family man", so crazy what he does and how happy and genuine he does all of it. The way he appreciates his parents and ancestors, his culture, his job, and how he takes care of his own family, all at the same time, is something else!
A man needs to provide in some shape or form. This is true nuclear family values. Too bad this is labeled as "toxic masculinity" in the west. Post modern feminism has completely ruined this kind of lifestyle. Good luck finding a woman who is content living like this in the west.
A Japanese husband who makes both breakfast AND dinner for his family?! Wow, you don’t see that everyday on this channel! Good job! 😊
impressive to see him making dinner and breakfast...great dad
It's better and easier for a family owned business than a corporate job.
It’s more about willingness than ability, specially coming from asian culture and mindset. I can relate and certainly applaud him ❤
@@Mwoods2272 I think being an owner is harder
Oh my God I am so happy to be catching another one of your videos early. You seriously are one of the best CZcamsrs on Japan. Like it makes me feel like I’m there, and I’m traveling, you’re amazing. Please don’t ever stop making.
Same here i never get to watch it this early
Ho'oh, good..

Yeees, I feel the same way! I love this channel. I also learn so many new things about Japan.

I love how in the end the kids started roasting Paolo... and it suddenly cut. That Got my Sub.
It makes me stupid happy to hear him say "I love my job because I get to work with my good friend". ♥
THat was hell of a work for a day and yet so energitic while he's with his familiy.. respect this man.
Ah Paolo, you have taken me back to the 60’s when we would go to Grandma’s in Tokyo and order food from a local restaurant! They would deliver by bike with a steam box full of food, we would eat and then leave the dishes on the porch to be picked up. Such great memories!
尊敬する父親だなぁ
肉体労働して疲労困ぱいの中疲れを見せずに子育て、家事に励んでる姿はヒーローそのものです!
This guy is such a good man. Hard working and cooks breakfast and dinner for the family! Some men even if they can do it, won't do it. Respect!
When I feel lazy and don't feel like doing anything I watch this videos, as I get motivation how Japanese people are actually disciplined and hard working
Paolo back at it again with the best series on YT!
Hearing that dude say he traded jobs just so he can work with his best friend is such a cute thing to hear. Love it.
This is absolutely great! Its effectively two videos in one, “a day in the life” plus “how its made!” Thank you so much Paolo-san. You really are the best.
Absolutely fascinating Paolo. Thank you for sharing the insights into the life and times of this man and family - what a priviledge you have afforded us. So very much appreciate all the work going into this compelling series. Wishing you all the best. Hello from London : - ) xx
Glad you enjoyed it
I have massive respect for guy like him. He does everything for his family.
I love kinako! Now that reminds me, how about a Day in the Life of a mochi master?? In my local Japan Town we have a popular mochi/manju shop I believe was opened in the 50s that I grew up eating and they make everything by hand from scratch and it's the BEST!!! They say even the Emperor visited some years ago and was served this mochi and he enjoyed it! Would LOVE a Behind the Counter or Day in the Life video on making mochi and manju or traditional Japanese sweets in general! 🤩
Beautiful family with 3 kids. Working with his family and his best friend. Well done! 🙏🏻
It's been a year since I started working and this video series played a large part in that. You made the concept of a job approachable, greatly reducing my anxiety about it. The world is lucky to have you in it. Hope you continue to do what you enjoy in life!
Over the years, I have watched all these Day in the Life series and it still is odd to me how such big workplace has only several people working in it. Every workplace in the series.. (well, except huge company). And also, I was also impressed on how Japanese really care about environment around them. How they always think about other people (like how Keisuke cleans the bento boxes, how he washed that cup before being recycled, it is amazing (it is so ironic because I watch this video in a restaurant where people would just leave their dishes all over the place, and couldn't care less about plastic straw). I believe we are all becoming more aware of the environment though, but it is just that Japan is so ahead of everybody. My final note, Keisuke is really the dream guy that I want to be. Work with dedication, a family dad, and try to leave a legacy of making this world a better place to live.
we need a Day in the Life of paolo the man himself :)
So delighted to see this family working together. They work so hard, but it seems very rewarding. His friend is so loyal and very hard working. I hope they continue to pass on the family business for many more generations!!
I've been watching these "Day in the Life of" videos since Paolo started making. And I always learn something about Japan when watching them. As long as these videos are made, I'll keep watching them.
I love learning about Japanese culture and history through these videos, Paolo, it's cool to see what each profession is like. I never thought I'd see a factory that lasted hundreds of years with only six people, that is an amazing achievement. Also, I finally actually got the chance to go to Tokyo, I'll be touring Shinjuku in September, seeing it for real is gonna be fun :) Could we maybe see a day in the life of a Singer/ Idol sometime? That'd be super cool. Keep up the great content
Singer/Idol would be revolutionary!
The man's living the dream. Spending time with his beautiful family, making kinako with his homies, going home at 5pm. Kinda makes me jealous, ngl.
Now this guy is a super Dad. I can't believe how much he does in a day! Plus his kids are hilarious
Got to love these videos. They're so high-quality and educational. Thanks Paolo for educating me more about Japan!
Thanks Paolo, i enjoy watching these, what a hardworking family !
Another brilliant video!
Alot of respect for the guy ,so dedicated and passionate in his job and gives so much importance to his family too.
I never get tired of Paolo's content. There's a certain tailored and unmistakable cadence each time. It feels like such an easy shoot and that comes through with everyone he features. Keep doing your thing, Paolo. It's appreciated.
Love your “Day in the Life of” series! So interesting and wonderful filming!
the ending was so extraordinarily beautiful. cute kids pulling Paolo's leg
Thanks so much Paolo - I love how your videos give such a realistic window into others lives, and major kudos to the people that open their homes to welcome you and all of us around the world into their daily routine - fascinating!
This is very wholesome, hard working man but still have plenty time for his family. Please do more of this small family businesses day in the life.
This was your best video yet. I loved this family. Thank you for letting us be part of it.
I love seeing how manufacturers do things behind the scenes. The feeling of seeing the process of something being made is so satisfying. It's also impressive how you meet up with these people for your content. Keep up the great work !
Oh this video was so lovely! I can truly tell that he has a great pride for what his factory makes as he works really hard and diligently. His love for his family is incredibly touching as well.
I love your interaction with the kids near the end. Made me smile in a cherished way 😊
I had never even heard of Kinako before this video. Please keep on making this video series, its the best one on the channel. and is super educational and entertaining!
Heartwarming stuff, as usual. Thanks for sharing, Paolo!
Brilliant , Paolo ! You have a warm eye for detail and it's a pleasure to watch .
Truly love watching your videos. They inform, while being on a low stress level. Calming and so much appreciated. I've always wanted to visit Japan, and though I hope to someday, it's not in the budget. But your videos transport me there. Thank you for what you do!
Terrific episode! It was very informative in watching how kinako is manufactured. My family loves to spread kinako on a lot of different desserts and mochi. I was surprised & happy to see his younger son
wearing a University of Hawaii t-shirt!
Hi Paolo, love your "Day in The life of" videos! it's great to see a Japanese family with more 1.5 kids! Loved it!
Thank you. I’ve had about a dozen tours to Japan, this series ties everything together about life in Japan and their amazing products and work ethic!
I love how Paolo keeps creating such excellent content by bringing people that are so much dedicated towards their craft. Nothing is "too hard" or "they don't feel like doing it". This is one of the things that I truly admire about Japanese work culture, however I understand there's still some stigma around it, considering that it is norm to overwork and stay late hours.
What an awesome video. I'm sure this series of videos is difficult to schedule and edit at times. But these "Day in the Life" videos show a side of Japanese everyday life that I don't see in a non-vlog format too often and they have been very enjoyable to watch! From watching, my partner and I have learned so much just about home life and morning and evening routines in Japan!
As always, amazing work ethic! And beautiful family
One of my favourite CZcamsrs. Absolutely top class videos, very informative of traditional Japanese trades and ways of working. Keep up the good work Paolo from Tokyo!
Thank you for another great video Paolo ! I like all your content, but I particulary like the "Day in the Life..." videos. They are giving us inside into the life of "normal" japanese people. This one is especially great. The respect and love Keisuke has for his job, his parents, his family and his religion is beautiful.
Terrific episode. I was surprised to see his youngest son wearing a University of Hawaii t-shirt! It was an informative episode to see what actually goes on behind the scenes in manufacturing kinako. My family enjoys putting kinako on a lot of different desserts and mochi.
Really enjoyed this one! And it was fun to see such a happy family working together both at work and at home with the kids. Cute!
A very delightful and classy milestone celebrated, thanks for sharing Paolo ⭐️
The sheer production quality of Paolo's videos has been second to none for a long while now. Effectively presenting Japan in all facets of it's society through this series with television level production. Outstanding.
I congratulate you on how well you captured the hard work and ethics that keep a family business running. Not to mention your cinematography I feel is above alot of the programs i watch on NHK.
This was wonderful to watch! The work, the community, the family!
People are awesome ❤ this video is brilliant. A man who clearly loves his family and seems confident in himself. Thanks again
Great video. When that kid asked if Paolo was actually a name I laughed quite a bit. I love how kids are just honest, even in Japan. I appreciate the hard work of these families and traditions.
Another awesome episode i can’t wait to go to Japan 🇯🇵 keep up the good work Paolo😎💪🏾
I really like the Day in the Life vids....a big thanks for not only seeing what the person does in the workplace but also what the person does during personal time. It takes a lot of emotions to let a stranger into someone personal life.
I love these a day in the life videos. Very informative and nice to see how other familys live.
That's so cool how Japanese sand is used in the roasting process. Here in my country, roadside vendors also use sand to roast all kinds of beans and nuts that people buy as a snack. Peanuts, chickpeas, corn etc etc
